As an American who avidly watches both the Mets and the tottenham hotspurs, I can say with certainty, British and Spanish commentators are EASILY the best commentators in all of sports. Peter Drury🐐
Yeah, I was surprised as well. I didn’t know England actually has a baseball field of that magnitude. Is that a permanent baseball field? or was that just modified for this game? [ I’ll translate for you guys (“field” = “pitch”) & (“game” = “match” (but nothing to do with tennis) ]😅
@@MikeCee7 That was the 2012 Olympic stadium, which is primarily used for soccer now (West Ham United) but has the dimensions that you can fit a baseball field into because it was built with a running track.

First I've heard the commentary as I was at the game. Being British I'm used to hearing him every week. Good commentator. Think he'd do well in the US. As a footnote, I'm looking forward to the MLB returning to London or anywhere in the UK. It's a fantastic day out.
Not necessarily. A meter is a little longer than a yard, most people around the world including the US have a good idea how long a meter is, especially during an Olympic year.
@@2097PyrosSure, because from the outside, it was exciting. They’re not “anti-Mets”; they’re pro-close races. Everybody thinks national broadcasters are biased against their teams. Praising the Phillies and the Phanatic were the only things the ESPN and FOX broadcasters did right! Though the Fox broadcast wasn't even doing that, they were too busy worshipping the Yankees and Dodgers.
yeah, we just barely see that, and see the catcher limping afterwards. that might've been a 6.01(i) (home plate collision rule) or 6.01(j) (force play slide rule) violation... hard to say without seeing it clearly.
I was there. First base side, probably somewhere in the background of the shot in the last replay in this clip. It was insane throughout the 9th pitch by pitch back and forth between both teams' fans, culminating in this. Anazing!

He will also do the BBC’s coverage of the Olympics and will cover this year’s soccer European Championships. He’s quite knowledgeable about a lot of sports.
The ESPN announcers were abysmal. So many mistakes, an overemphasis on the Phillies success, belittling Pete Alonso’s improvement at first base. My sister turned the sound off.
im surprised at how many ppl never heard brits announce games, its always the best, they are imaginative, cheeky, and have a clever way with words on the fly with there description of the games
Lol despite this being an American sport when the American guy talks it’s like cold water during the horniest moment of your life. I want British commentators for every MLB game now.
Doesn't seem to be a way to watch the game this commentary anywhere either... at least not on MLBTV. Just ESPN and either home radio broadcast. I'm curious to see how they called the game.
You have to sign up for TNT in the UK to see it. I tried via VPN but they require a valid UK address and postal code or it won't let you sign up for it.
It's not a common traditional way to get it done. That's true; as far as records go, this was the first time in MLB history that a ballgame ended with a 2-3 double play. In fact, this has to be the rarest of forced-base runner double plays. I know for certain that I've never seen one in the 50+ years that I've been a baseball fan or played as a youngster. I would be curious to know if a double play of this kind has ever happened at all, let alone one to end a ballgame.
Having looked at this in slow motion a few times, I wonder if someone checked that bat. The bat was mostly intact, just some pieces flew off of it which suggests to me there was something Really Funny about that bat. Yeah, the Phillies lost but if they were using doctored bats, well... who is to say they're not still using doctored bats?
We were sat in the Phillies section for both days cheering on the Mets while getting yelled at by Phillies fans. This was an amazing play, we were dancing around celebrating until the stadium was almost empty. Couldn't take my eyes off the "METS WIN" sign. LOVED being able to see my team win in my home town. Thank you Mets!!
I laughed at "If this ball travels a metre or two" followed by the U.S. color man saying "it's a game of inches"! Also, giving the _total_ number of hits in the game feels faintly weird to me (unless it's an unusually high or low number, which I don't think 17 is). But I like the call!
I really hope Darren Fletcher calls the next London Series, and that a deal can somehow be swung (ha!) to make the broadcast available to American fans, or at least the archived audio.
I didn’t catch it (puns!), but I’m assuming that was his Pitchcom earpiece. Part of me misses putting down fingers to call pitches and sign-stealing gamesmanship, but on the other hand (moar punz!), Pitchcom does speed the game up.
Get this guy on the national broadcast rotation ASAP
@traybern what
Yes i agree.
@traybern ??? Wtf?
Splendid idea old pip!!
Amen! Darren Fletcher was splendid!
I didn't know I needed British announcers so much in MLB until this weekend. Sub out that Apple TV+ crew and gimme an all British announce team.
As an American who avidly watches both the Mets and the tottenham hotspurs, I can say with certainty, British and Spanish commentators are EASILY the best commentators in all of sports. Peter Drury🐐
To be fair, pretty much _anyone_ would be an improvement over the AppleTV+ MLB crew.
A British guy accompanied by Snoop Dog.

Soap box too 😂

Great call by this British man
Castellanos’s bat explodes!!!
Darren Fletcher is a pleasure to listen to. The FOX and ESPN commentators praising the Phillies and Phanatic green thing all weekend was torture.
Trust me as a Phillies fan I did not like the national broadcast at all
FOX and ESPN have been obscenely anti-Mets for years. ESPN in particular were outright cheering on the Braves charge to the East in 2022.

I was here, it was fucking electric! The British broadcast is even better
Let’s have Darren come to the states for an exchange program. I think he’d fit in smashingly with the GKR booth.
Dirty slide after the play completed. Same old Phillies.
They don't call them the Filthies for nothing.

Yeah he did the first London series with the Yankees and Red Sox in 2019, you can find clips of it on YT. He did a great job then too

Cheap slide, of course
Please give this broadcaster a contract for Sunday Night Baseball.
One of the slickest double plays I’ve ever seen, and a fittingly CRUSHING defeat & series split against the Filthies!
Great great call indeed. Thanks 🙏🏾. LGM❤.

I’ve fallen out of watching games on tv. If every game had a British commentary option I’d be tempted to watch more. Stellar commentary!!
Baseball, even today's messed-up game with the stupid clocks, is loved all over the world. This British announcer is awesome!
Mets fan in London...was there....starting the comeback streak.....let's go Mets!
We need more of this in baseball.

I always enjoy the Brit’s calling soccer games. I agree. They have a flair with words.
💯 this is so true
Now that's a call. This man needs to do more games in America.
He has such a busy schedule that it would be hard for him, but maybe in the summer he can
Happy to see so many people in the UK taking an interest in baseball
Australian here. I'm sold on the game, and I'm with you. I'm excited to see the Brits taking an interest in the game.
I'm gobsmacked. Who knew he Brits could call a baseball game.
Well we did technically invent the game after all. ;)
Great play by play announcer, I'd be very happy to hear him do more MLB games.
Please get them to replace any and all ESPN announcers
ESPN announcers completely suck across the board.
I would actually look forward to espn broadcasts if this guy was the play by play announcer
I don't want to hear another complaint about another American job being taken away by a talented non-american
If this man was the announcer for Fox Sports and Bally sports and SNY this would make me wanna watch every single day
I wish the full British broadcast is out there somewhere, complete with adverts!
It is. Just look it up on TNT Sports.
But I'm in America. It's geoblocked.
We need more like this in the US. ❤

I wish we had more than 2 damn MLB games a year in London. The demand is there for us to buy tickets. I’d certainly go to more than 2 each summer.
We're not getting any next year but I agree London should have more (just make everything there cheaper!)
Anyone have highlights or full broadcast with these guys? It's soo entertaining
This guy is 100x better than any US baseball announcer. I would personally pay my entire salary to listen to this guy calling games.
The Padres crew is pretty awesome. Giants too.
Personally I prefer the Mets, but in my mind this is a cut above the rest.

I know this is because of how contracts and deals are structured in television, but region locking should have died with the DVD.
