Ooh, my skin just went all tingly listening to that. SDCC is better than christmas, even if I never actually go there, there's always some awesome news. First the new jem line and now this. Squee!
This is amazing news, so wonderful. I cannot wait to have this in my hands and never let it go. But... does anyone else think Neil Gaiman sounds really sad in this video? I mean when he said he felt he nearly "failed" by not telling that story yet. I mean I almost cried when he said that he seemed so sad. Or is it just me?
It's my birthday today and it's being a little shitty and now I feel ever so much fuckin' better. Gaiman's stories have cheered me up through a lot of dark crap over my life and it's terrific to look forward to new Sandman material. Fuck. Yes.
I agree, even if Neil knew how the story ends, Morpheus has been around for eons and there's no reason not to tell earlier stories. After all, we knew how Star Wars end and yet we kept coming back for more and more prequels :)
Definitely good news but I wish he would write more stories in the "neverwhere" universe. He had talked about a book about Serpentine and the Seven Sisters
Actually, I think he was trying to tell this story since about 5 years ago in the 20th aniversary, but things didn't go that well with DC so... he is finally publishing it : )
except i have hope in gaiman that this story won't ruin it. the impression i got wasn't as if he was gluing on an extra bit to a fantastic sculpture, more that there was one part of it unfinished that he hadn't felt right about until now. there's still mysteries surrounding it, but in this small way, it would be a bit more complete, in my opinion.
I see some people are still jaded by the Prequel concept, and rightly so! Still, the difference between this and Star Wars is that Neil Gaiman isn't a frigging idiot who's out to whore his child for a couple bucks that he doesn't even need. This man is actually an artist in his field.
LOL. Neil Gaiman blocked me on twitter because I said that most of these Kickstarter funded graphic novels will never happen -- funded or not. It's truth. We are already seeing a ton of people taking the money and just running with it.
I think it's probly more likely that Neil blocked you on twitter because you were generally annoying. Dude's got a million people tweeting him, I bet he sets his annoyance filter to "high."
One exec at Warner Brothers says "ehhhh, what's a Sandman? It sounds brand new! I wonder if we can make a summer flick about it? I wonder if Leo DiCaprio might be available. Oooooo. That would sizzle!". The second execs returns, "Wasn't there a Sandman in the third Spiderman movie? I'm confused."
Issue #1 of Sandman: Overture is a must read. Nothing more needs to be said. And if you're one of the12 dislikers of this video? well to quote John Cleese :-P (PHHHHHHHHHHHHHHPPPPPP!!!) "I fart in your general direction!!!" Longstory short READ SANDMAN: OVERTURE! It's what we need in these days and times.
I am so excited lol he kinda sounded like he was about ready cry of joy a little bit,I would to. The Sandman is his child and like any parent you can't let go of it:) This is such an important comic to me and I always felt there was something missing after it ended, this may be it. Neil you are awesome and you are my favorite author:)
Looking forward to this but LOL at the eye in the triangle on the cover at the very end - is it really necessary to insert this crap EVERYWHERE - this is getting ridiculous.
In the fore/afterword for one of the volumes, Gaiman said that he'd always knew how to end it. In Wikipedia article for "The Sandman (Vertigo)" Gaiman's contract says that "the series would end when he leaves it". It also says he "had a finite run in mind for the series." During a conversation with Audrey Niffenegger at Chicago Public Library, when asked how long before the end did Gaiman know the ending, he said that he always knew how it would end, but not how long it would take to get there.
When the first Sandman hit the stand, Gaiman told the press that he already know how it would end. He just need to fill in the middle. And he did it spectacularly. So why can't we trust him to insert another story? People come up with new ideas all the time. For all we know, this story has been eating at him. And he has finally finished writing it in his head. He just need to put pen to paper. This is not the beginning to the Sandman we know. This is another story with the same characters.
Hey, budy, you may like to watch this video:"Exclusive Interview: Amanda Palmer and Neil Gaiman" (just google it, and it will be the first link that appears). it's an interview Neil did a few days after he announced the unreleased Sandman edition. Amanda is interviewed too, but you can watch it all the way, because Neil speaks again at the end.
J.H. Williams III is a the artist that should have drawn The Sandman, but didn’t cause cause he was born the wrong time, when his art hit epic level The Sandman had ended years past but now this is about to be corrected. Greatest news ever!
How awesome to live in 2012 and have the opportunity to view and listen to one of the best authors of our time. And in my own home, in the southwestern U.S., pretty much in the middle of nowhere. Yet, here speaks Neil Gaiman. I am well-pleased.
OH.MY.GODS. This is something I would never ever thought to see again in all my fucking life. A new Sandman story. Who really cares about if is before or after anything in the Sandman timeline. Thanks Neil!!!
Actually it was originally going to be an ongoing series but he saw a good opportunity to end it so he did. Regardless the prequel will be good because Neil Gaiman is a god.
So happy to see I am not alone, crying happy tears...Looks like Sandman goes very dear to our hearts. More than I expected. ;-)
I'm new to Sandman and I just read "Doll House" yesterday and now this pops out.
Awesome timing. Can't wait!
I remember hearing about ideas for this story since long ago, I am quite happy to hear this news :D
Looking forward to this. Out will also actually be my 25 that year too, great birthday present for sure.
I like seeing the GLOW on Neil's face and I'm excited about JH Williams doing the project.
This makes me so happy that tears of joy are flowing. Amazing.
Thanks Neil, awesome as always

The beauty of the Sandman, is that the Sandman is... endless.
It's my birthday today and it's being a little shitty and now I feel ever so much fuckin' better. Gaiman's stories have cheered me up through a lot of dark crap over my life and it's terrific to look forward to new Sandman material. Fuck. Yes.
So excellent, so exciting! I can't wait! I've been reading Sandman since I was a kid.
I agree, even if Neil knew how the story ends, Morpheus has been around for eons and there's no reason not to tell earlier stories. After all, we knew how Star Wars end and yet we kept coming back for more and more prequels :)
I'm soooo happy right now :)
Thank you DC just thank you!
Definitely good news but I wish he would write more stories in the "neverwhere" universe. He had talked about a book about Serpentine and the Seven Sisters
When I finished reading the Sandman comics I felt as though the story had taken residence in my heart and then left. I'm so glad there will be more!
Actually, I think he was trying to tell this story since about 5 years ago in the 20th aniversary, but things didn't go that well with DC so... he is finally publishing it : )
I want Neil Gaiman to narrate my life, please. It would be so much more fantastic, even the icky stuff.
OH. MY. GOD. I cannot wait.
What amazing news. Please don't let anything bad happen to me before it comes out!
Best news out of Comic-Con!!
The Gaiman calender beats out the Mayan calender everytime.
PERFEITO DEMAIS T_T
JH Williams III does amazing work.
I CAN'T HOLD ALL THE FEELS.
Hall H is not the whole convention center, you can have a very enjoyable experience at comic con without attending any event there.
I like how it says "Neil Gaiman - Writer". That's like saying "WIlliam Shakespeare - Poet", "Neil Armstrong - Astronaut", or "Bob Dylan - Musician".
The image used at the end better not be the cover; we all know that the cover for this comic has to be done by Dave McKean ;)
amazing i cant wait!
im crying!!!!!!!! =( snif snif, this is a REAL DREAM
YEEEEEEEEHA!!!! LOOOOOOOVE!
Morpheus returns! :-) I've got to survive this Mayan calendar thing...
Please be animation, please be animation, PLEASE BE DC ANIMATION!!!
gleeeeeee.
ALL YEAR
O @neilhimself voltar a escrever Sandman é legal e tal, mas ter o J.H. Williams III desenhando, isso sim é empolgante.
YEEEEEEEES!
2:24 Gaiman is definitely Morpheus. Vote for the Dreamlord in 2012
Please make Dave Mckean do all the covers
Dear Alan Moore, do you see now how it's supposed to be done?!
except i have hope in gaiman that this story won't ruin it. the impression i got wasn't as if he was gluing on an extra bit to a fantastic sculpture, more that there was one part of it unfinished that he hadn't felt right about until now. there's still mysteries surrounding it, but in this small way, it would be a bit more complete, in my opinion.
So, with Williams drawing, we wll get it somewhere around 2020?
Unbelievable!
it is as if the galaxy has decided to grant planet Earth one great wish
OH MY GOD THIS IS GONNA BE AMAZING. :D I can't wait!!
@daftshadow This! A thousand times this!
Holy shit...holy shit.... !!!!
Neil Gaiman + JH Williams III = SHUT UP AND TAKE MY MONEY
Oh shit yes!
Just take my money please!
See, people? THIS is how you keep a damn secret for 18 months...
I KEEP THROWING MONEY AT THE SCREEN BUT NOTHING'S HAPPENING
I see some people are still jaded by the Prequel concept, and rightly so! Still, the difference between this and Star Wars is that Neil Gaiman isn't a frigging idiot who's out to whore his child for a couple bucks that he doesn't even need. This man is actually an artist in his field.
MOTHER FUCKING NEIL GAIMAN EVERYONE.
I may or may not have just squealed like a little girl.
LOL. Neil Gaiman blocked me on twitter because I said that most of these Kickstarter funded graphic novels will never happen -- funded or not. It's truth. We are already seeing a ton of people taking the money and just running with it.
the world won't end this year 'cause Morpheus is coming back next year!!
I just pissed myself.
November doesn't it sound like
Can a abstract personification of a the concept of dreaming even have a sexual preference?
lol you'll have to forgive me then, it's the first time i've seen sarcasm and not bile on a youtube comment
This.
So they aren't having Sandman come out as gay? Because DC sure is doing a lot if that lately.
SHUT UP AND TAKE MY MONEY!
That'll do pig. That'll do.
More Sandman and Spider-man footage here!
/watch?v=lv1C12vgvqo
You're new, but the story isn't called "Doll House", it's "The Doll's House". Jeez. Bad nerd.
Eeee!
I mean this novemeber lol.
Aaaaaaahhhhhhhhhh
I think I peed.
Fake. There are no comics at comic-con.
More Sandman footage
/watch?v=lv1C12vgvqo
What three people disliked this video?!? I will find them and I will hurt them!
fapx3
I think it's probly more likely that Neil blocked you on twitter because you were generally annoying. Dude's got a million people tweeting him, I bet he sets his annoyance filter to "high."
But I Don’t Care
This is great news but this video sucks. Get to the point, Neil.
Thank you, thank you, THANK YOU Neil Gaiman, you bring dreams to a hopeless, artless world. LOVE YOU!!
Issue #1 of Sandman: Overture is a must read.

. . . you know how long it takes to put a really good graphic novel together, right? Longer than Kickstarter has existed so far.
¿Morpheus or possibly not Morpheus'; could he mean Daniel? Also, i'd love to see Delight, and what turned her into Delirium.
In the fore/afterword for one of the volumes, Gaiman said that he'd always knew how to end it. In Wikipedia article for "The Sandman (Vertigo)" Gaiman's contract says that "the series would end when he leaves it". It also says he "had a finite run in mind for the series."

So basically Neil Gaiman is doing his 'Before Sandman' - Great Stuff !!

My only problem is that Williams is really sloooooooow as an artist... he makes gorgeous art, but if he just started to draw... see you un 2015...
Awesome.
As to explain the view/like difference, the like count is updated immediately, the view count is updated once per day.
those who disliked this video would be granted eternal waking by Morpheus/ Daniel
can't wait for Sandman's new stories
This is wonderful! The man is back at telling a Sandman story! So thrilled I wish I could hug and kiss him right now.
This is awesome! I just finished Endless Nights a month ago, and now I don't have to wait forever for another one!
quazzard, if you don't want to read it don't buy it. I'll reserve judgment on the project until after I see it.
