I have the 308 GTI, it's actually one hell of a car, and weighs just 1200 kg giving it one of the best power to weight ratios of its class. Love it. Wouldn't say no to one of these Meganes either though.
The 4 wheel steering could be a game changer. And I love the DRLs as the RS logo, very slick. Renault could have a winner here. Personally I wouldn't buy it as I prefer 4WD just for off the line grip. In my view - the most useful feature for everyday driving and but I imagine not great on track. But if you want FWD then I reckon this will be the best out there.
french designers are really good. Same thing with italian designers. japanese just have to change their designs to keep up and make new stuff. new camry, honda accord, maxima are pretty good looking. Dunno what happened to lexus though. infiniti still looks nice.
How does anyone find the Civic type R a good looking car? Even the normal civic looks better, the type R looks worse than anything I ever made in nfs underground when i was 10
Stop pretending that everybody shares your point of view. Over the years there has been many cars that divided peoples attraction towards them - Love it or hate it. I´m not particular trilled about that Civic R either, but at least it is far from being boring and its extreme exterior lit up the streets a bit - be happy that not every hot hatch looks like the Civic R nor the Golf GTi.
@@HesteBremse Why would they stop pretending? The feeling they like is exactly that of being "everyone" versus a few outliers to safely bad-mouth and feel better than. That's the whole point of such comments. The joy of saying whatever you want and putting a big "We" behind it instead of saying it's just what YOU think. Also note how they highlight those are "for kids"; a way to feel reassured they are cool, grown up, mature. An easy way actually.
Looks like they're going to supply it in some decent colours as well, Metallic Orange, Liquid Yellow etc. Virtually all it's competitors are Grey, Black, Red and White
I'm a type r fan myself :) but I have to say I like most things about this Megane rs including the fact that they will use 4 wheel steering and a 1.8 turbo engine which adds a bit of depth to the hot hatch market. The only thing I don't like looks wise are the daylight runner part of the headlights. I'm not sure if it would be at a disadvantage in terms of aero in comparison to an fk8 type r however they will have the 4 wheel steering mechanism as well to play with. Being a smaller displacement than most of its competition it may lack in torque but since there are no official curb weight it's hard to tell whether all that weight saving (I.e the engine) will be enough. It's good that they are bringing it out in both manual and automatic to suit varying consumer requirements and also that they are bringing out a tame, more elegant looking version and a separate trophy version for us hardcore nuts, something I was hoping they would do with the fk8 type r. I can see why the fk8 has a comfort mode and electric handbrake introduced but I mean that should be the non GT trim and the GT trim should be as hardcore as a type R was born and bred to be. Having said all that You guys should bring a video out of the Megane rs, cupra r, clubsport s gti and fk8 type r (and any other fwd competitor I may have missed) running on track to compare lap times, then a drag and roll race. Preferably all cars to be manual to give an accurate comparison please ;) thanks. (P.s. Try and pick a dry day lol)
Always thought French cars, especially Renault were years ahead of everyone else in their Aesthetic design. The Renault Avantime still looks modern to this day.
I love the looks of the Megane but what ruins it for me is that big oversized renault badge.... just a small steering wheel badge sized badge off centre would look brilliant! in my opinion.
I think the Astra OPC is the best looking one, but among those 4 cars i like the 308 GTI best. But then i do have a 208 GTI myself so i might just be a little biased :P
Only 30.000 pounds? It will probably be around 60.000 euros in the Netherlands thanks to pollution taxes (every gram over a certain amount makes it pretty expensive). I'm already paying almost 40.000 for the GT (or 1000 a month in lease)
Does anyone know if Renault will use independent rear suspension or stick to the more hardcore Torsion crushed pipe setup like the previous Type R FK2 model.
Not bad. But the civics interior looks better. Hard choice to choose. These European hatchbacks are so nice. Damn. Wish America had them. I would buy myself an audi s3 hatch or Mercedes a45 amg hatch.
I love the 308 gti looks. The type R is too over the top. The seat is plain and boring. I'd buy the megane RS, they always deliver the best driving experience for the class AND four-wheel steering in a hot hatch is seriously cool.
£30,000 is just stupid. You can get a BMW M140i for that, which is a straight six 3.0L engine with a lot more power and torque, not to mention quality in terms of the car itself. Better badge too. This looks nice but if its £30k you'd be crazy to buy it.
What are you talking about? M140i starts at £35k without any option in UK (i don't know why costs a lot less) and in all the other european countries starts at £42k approx.
irakli Mgeladze Focus has 4WD so they can put a more powerful engine... This is a traction so it's stupid to think only about HP... And they'll add the trophy version with 300 hp anyway
derbigpr500 hmm the old one was not BETTER than the type R because it still had 35Hp less and a weaker torque.. But the new one with 4control, it will be interesting
You know that's utter rubbish 😂 the previous FK2 destroyed the RS in every possible scenario, having said that you could argue the RS had a much better sounding engine and exhaust tone but that's about it to be brutally honest 😂
Man, that face lift doesn't feel right. It looks like just another Megane, visually there's nothing sporty about it, not to mention it looks like it's crying. At least Honda tried to give the Type R a visual you wouldn't mistake for another hatchback Civic.
Well designed, but I absolutely love the flag-style daytime lights! :D
A checkerboard flag.. google it.
Andreas isnt it just the trophy logo? That they use now as daytime shape?
+siemenssx1 kona front lights are copy paste from Jeep cherooke+Mazda cx3 design..
Looks better than Type R
AdrenalineAddicted nope
AdrenalineAddicted anything looks better than that school boy designed wet dream.
Every car in the Civic's class looks better than the Civic. It's like a Juke Sedan.
Not better but more mature.
Everything does.
Actually so far best looking
I have the 308 GTI, it's actually one hell of a car, and weighs just 1200 kg giving it one of the best power to weight ratios of its class. Love it. Wouldn't say no to one of these Meganes either though.
Paul Hawkins it dors not weight 1200kg that is marketing figure man.
Damien Blaber Agreed, it really is a superb handling machine, but so quiet, comfy and efficient when it needs to be. Cheapest to buy and run too.
Test drove one and loved it.
The 4 wheel steering could be a game changer. And I love the DRLs as the RS logo, very slick. Renault could have a winner here. 4wd means 4x4 and its different from awd , also 4x4 is bad as fuck while cornering
The new Renault design is just awesome, for me. That huge badge looks dope.
Not a fan of French cars, but got to admit Renault is killing it with the design and performance lately.
French cars are looking better and better as the years go on... while Japanese cars just gets uglier and weird
Nayeem Haque french cars are shitty and ugly, japanese cars are beautiful!!
french designers are really good. Same thing with italian designers. japanese just have to change their designs to keep up and make new stuff. new camry, honda accord, maxima are pretty good looking. Dunno what happened to lexus though. infiniti still looks nice.
Nayeem Haque except French cars breakdown easily
Beyonder yup I think I trust Japanese engineering over french
Nayeem Haque okay most people would agree the Megane looks better. But which is the actual better car ?
peugot 308 awesome design as well.
Exactly what I was hoping for, I love it.
Exciting new DRL design! Hope to see more like this.
molnard87 it isnt that new. I've seen it on renault koleos. I saw it 8 months ago.
Cant wait for the first driving reviews!! Especially regarding the four wheel steering system which should bring real advantages on track

yes, it's riced out
well, fair point
Looks awesome

I am in love with those fog lamps
Just seen one of these on the road. Never been a fan of Renault's. But Jesus Christ what a good looking car.
french designers really nailed it. They are in general really good at designing but i wonder how well it faires in others areas too.
Looks like they're going to supply it in some decent colours as well, Metallic Orange, Liquid Yellow etc.
Virtually all it's competitors are Grey, Black, Red and White
Electronic parking brake in a fast, track focused car. Great job, Renault!
Yes in the auto, but notice the manual has a magic wand!
Plz do a comparison among the 4 rivals you've mentioned as soon as you get the test cars
Awesome car

Of course I get an ad for the type r just before the vid lol
wish it was sold in the US :/
I didn't know Renault interprets RS as RenaultSport. That's pretty smart in my opinion.
Matt, you have to get your hands on a Dacia Duster 2018, it actually looks like a modern car !!!
Full review mate!
When is this going to be available on the carwow site??
Yes, I love this car.
Always thought French cars, especially Renault were years ahead of everyone else in their Aesthetic design.
The Renault Avantime still looks modern to this day.
Damn, that's a sexy clean car. Love it! Nice work Renault Sport! :)
Not in this spec, the Trophy is the one apparently that will have more power than this, and I hope the handling is better than the opposition.
At the thingy where we vote, can you add "All of them" and "None of them", please
Love the car, only thing that i dont want is the chrome on the windows but maybe thats an option.
uploaded straight after car throttle
When is it going to be available to spec on carwow?
I love the looks of the Megane but what ruins it for me is that big oversized renault badge.... just a small steering wheel badge sized badge off centre would look brilliant! in my opinion.
Hi Mat, when are you going to do an updated Jaguar XJ review?
Finally, a 5 door RenaultSport. Nice.
This thing is looking so good. But I still prefer the Type R. Cool video!
Peugeot 308 Gti has taken over the hot hatch.
can you possibly do more reviews on Opel cars?
280hp? thats actually fucking amazing! just right amount for this car.
Just watched a video about this on car throttle seems like a good car
*Stop with the misleading thumbnails!* There's really no need for that.
I think the Astra OPC is the best looking one, but among those 4 cars i like the 308 GTI best. But then i do have a 208 GTI myself so i might just be a little biased :P
@carwow
Matt not a single word about Project One AMG?
Why you never reviewed Megane RS?
Wow best looking hot hatch.
Only 30.000 pounds? It will probably be around 60.000 euros in the Netherlands thanks to pollution taxes (every gram over a certain amount makes it pretty expensive). I'm already paying almost 40.000 for the GT (or 1000 a month in lease)
Love it and I drive 2014 RS265
Give me one of these over a civic any day of the week
If Renault are able to offer a manual gearbox on the new Megane R.S., then why can't they offer a manual 'box on the Clio R.S.?!
It has a better tasteful design than the civic. If the Megane will be at least 100kg or more lighter than the civic then it will win.
0-100 both cars do 5.7 sec
When is the full review?
not a fan of french cars but this design is awesome.. 👍👍
Will it be sold in the USA
hey bro, plz make a review on Jeep compass🤘
Ohh 4 wheel steering on a hot hatch - does any of the other contenders have that right now ?
HesteBremse none of them
Renault never disappoints
Does anyone know if Renault will use independent rear suspension or stick to the more hardcore Torsion crushed pipe setup like the previous Type R FK2 model.
Mark C rear torsion axle. With rear steering system.
Not bad. But the civics interior looks better. Hard choice to choose. These European hatchbacks are so nice. Damn. Wish America had them. I would buy myself an audi s3 hatch or Mercedes a45 amg hatch.
Civic Type R and Megane RS
Very very beautiful car. The type R looks like an origami tetra pack cardboard box saturated w deflectors.
looks stunnig!
Does it have adjustable suspension ?
Looks badass
Good looking car
Dang this is beautiful
The old one will be always the best 👌👌
I love the 308 gti looks. The type R is too over the top. The seat is plain and boring. I'd buy the megane RS, they always deliver the best driving experience for the class AND four-wheel steering in a hot hatch is seriously cool.

Beautiful car!
Look better in exterier and intrier, +4WD, but only 280 HP is disapointed, with 3-5k you will get ford focus rs with 350 hp
irakli Mgeladze Focus has 4WD so they can put a more powerful engine... This is a traction so it's stupid to think only about HP... And they'll add the trophy version with 300 hp anyway
why they swich it to 1.8 engine why?Why you downsize hothatch in a market where everyone use 2.0 engines with 300 or more hp?
ivanlazarevic78 environmental and tax reasons in France.
Really nice car
Call me silly, but is there a bit of buggati in that rear end? French vandeta for germans stealing Bugatti?
Civic Type R ❤
the most difficult to search spare parts in Malaysia and it is a Renault.
That sped up footage though 😅
Atleast tgis car does bot remove features ehem type r
Superb
BEAUTIFUL 👌👌👌
Megane RS
Megane of course
Why not 300bhp
The type r's front and the megane's rear ;)
chassis cup?what is cup?
the hardcore version
Love this car... makes me wish I didn't live in the states! 😂
I still prefer the focus st
The OLD ONE was good enough to beat the Civic Type R, let alone the new one.
derbigpr500 hmm the old one was not BETTER than the type R because it still had 35Hp less and a weaker torque.. But the new one with 4control, it will be interesting
You know that's utter rubbish 😂 the previous FK2 destroyed the RS in every possible scenario, having said that you could argue the RS had a much better sounding engine and exhaust tone but that's about it to be brutally honest 😂
Love it but come on! 1.8?😭

Honestly there too late there's too much more powerful hot hatchbacks rn too choose
Renault and Peugeot is the best 🇨🇵
The peugeot is not the 2018-version..
Aitor Fernández doesn't matter, as the GTI numbers doesn't change at all.
pokest225 yes, i know, but it changes on the outside
I like it
Type-r
A regular bmw does 0-60 around 6-7 seconds. If your car doesn't do it under 5.5 then don't call it a sports car.
Thunder Killa on the track it will out run all of those BMW cars. Sporty enough?
pokest225 it won't.
Thunder Killa it won't? The older Megane RS already did that.
This is a really nice car, but a Civic beater? Don't think so...
the back end is pure pornographic
