    I love all your videos and podcasts! You truly are an inspiration to me. As a homeschooler and mom to 3 little ones, I have excused away missing my quiet time because I have been “too busy”. What a devastating loss as I have missed out on so many days growing closer to my Lord. Thank you for all you share and reminding us all that it is not only possible, but necessary to get time with God daily… no matter how many kids we have and how “busy” our schedule is. Janelle I value your experience as a HS mom. I think your spot on in this video, regarding the hot topic. I have family who is LDS and it can be very confusing. When I first moved to UT I had no idea about the differences and would ask all these questions and get answers that sounded right. But I had a check in my spirit and didn't realize until years later why. I gained discernment once I study the Word and understood my bible and what they believe. Plus...here's another side to the issue, as born again believers, let's support other HS companies who have biblical worldview curriculum that have truly paved the way for us to home educate our children very easily in this season of increased HS. There are Soo many curriculum companies out there and unfortunately (IMO) new homeschooling mom's go right to the video reviews and miss tons of chances to find good solid curriculum that isn't re inventing the wheel. I speak from experience. I used Math u see a bunch when my kids where younger but was blessed when my stepmom found and sent me 4 levels of Saxon math textbooks and answer keys. Saxon has worked great for my older too. Just trying to say there are lots of options and they don't all have a video review from a vlogger. Though wouldn't it be nice!! Might catch one of your sessions at the conference in a few weeks. The kids and I are so excited, though I wish they would list which vendors will be there. Also loved leading little ones to God. Did it twice when my kids were little, I think you can get it on Amazon last I checked. Great video as always Janelle!

    I think you handled the Good and Beautiful discussion gracefully. I have actually used it for a couple of years now. (Just Language Arts, and Math for a few of my children). I struggled with the LDS aspect too, but read (on their website, or in a FAQ somewhere) that the good and the beautiful employs people from many different denominations, which made me feel better. I don’t take any Biblical teaching from TGAB though. (I haven’t come across any either). The reason I went to it is because I was struggling with enough time to get everyone’s lessons in. I’m homeschooling six of my children, but the last five were born within six years, so I am teaching four children to read right now, and that’s a lot! You reminded to to have some good discussions with them all about this topic of truth. Thank you for standing firm for Christ!

    As someone who has used (and still uses) TGTB for a couple of subjects, I completely agree with your assessment. I spent a very large amount of time familiarizing myself with LDS doctrine and always approach the curriculum with a very skeptical eye. Thus far it has been a solid (if not slightly scattered) language arts program with lots of beautiful pictures and poetry along with verses from the Bible incorporated. No mention of the book of mormon or other books their church deems "inspired". All that to say, my kids are still quite young, 4th grade and below. We talk a lot about false religions and deception (we learned a lot through My Father's World Exploring Countries and Cultures) and I would never consider TGTB for any subject that includes worldview. Even when they talk about Christ they are referring to a different Christ. I'm very careful about acknowledging this with my children, but thus far in the language arts curriculum it hasn't been an issue, it's just very simple Bible verses. I would definitely recommend parents be prayerful and cautious because doctrine can sneak in the most unlikely places. Thank you for the very informative video!

    We come from a reformed OPC background and I never thought I would touch TGATB with a ten foot poll. This year we hit a wall with Saxon and all the writing our son had to do. He was diagnosed with dysgraphia and high functioning autism which made me rethink our math. We tried simply good and beautiful math and it was so much better. I know she's Mormon and I have been on my guard but it is math and I spoke with my hubby about it and we felt okay with it. I totally get where you are coming from but when you get a kid with special needs there's not a ton of resources out there. Thank you for this video! ❤️

    Thanks for this video Janelle !!! You’re always a favorite. We use tgtb for high school language arts. I like the booklets and how the program incorporates geography and art. I like the clean books they use too. We use Apologia for Bible and we will be using The Bible Recap when reading through the Bible chronologically in January. It’s my understanding that many different denominations write the curriculum. And I’ve never seen biblical commentary in the booklets. But my daughter really likes the program. As for my son, he uses Lightening Literature. It’s not from a biblical worldview, and again I’ve never seen anything suspicious or bias in the curriculum one way or the other. It’s just a straight literature program that suits my son well. In the past we have used LLATL, EIL,IEW (still use this for grammar and my son’s writing). And We use notgrass for all history , which I just adore. It’s like grandpa telling us about the good old days , mr and Mrs notgrass have so much love poured into their materials. You’re my favorite hs momma on UA-cam. And the first one I ever watched Thank you so much for making a new video 💖 Melissa

    • @annaramponi4505
      @annaramponi4505 2 роки тому +1

      Oh ps. I’ve never considered tgtb as a Christian based literature program. I told my children that the author is Mormon and she thinks that she’s Christian, but that she has been deeply misled and that there is no part 2 to the Bible. The word of God is complete in the Bible and Christ accomplished everything on the cross. The end.

      Thank you for sharing your experience with TGTB. Also, I'm planning on using Notgrass next year for history and what you said about it reading like grandpa talking about the past is one reason I'm looking forward to using it. I've only used their Uncle Sam and You curriculum so I'm excited to try some of their other ones.

    For vocabulary we are doing “Operation Lexicon: The Inklings” for my daughter who loves to write creatively. I think we’ll also use “1100 words you need to know” at some point in high school. I’d love to find a vocabulary flip card calendar because that would click for my daughter. For my son he’d fit better with Evan Moor’s vocabulary until he outgrows it.

    Great answers! Thank you for speaking the truth about The Good and the Beautiful. I felt convicted each time I went on to purchase. It's such a draw because IT IS so beautiful, but yes, Satan masquerades as an angel of light. Christians should not be supporting deceptive companies, even if the founders themselves are deceived. We should pray for Jenny, her family and fellow mormons. We all desperately need the One True Living God of Scripture.

    • @JanelleKnutson
      @JanelleKnutson  Рік тому +1

      Both are easy to implement for different reasons. Logic of English is all in one for reading, spelling, and eventually grammar and reading comprehension. AAR and AAS are two separate teachers manuals so might feel like you are doing two subjects. AAR/AAS does not include grammar. I loved Logic of English: Foundations but am currently using AAR/AAS for all my kids (that still need reading and/or spelling). Both are excellent options and easy to use.

    Great video! I appreciate you taking a stand with TGTB. I tried their math with my son last school year and it was okay. I don’t think the style of it worked well with him. But I ordered the next level of math and a level for my daughter and a science unit. But my spirit felt no peace and I realized I needed to heed that conviction. I sold all of it and definitely lost money, but I knew God would bless my obedience and like you said, there’s tons of curriculum out there.

      I think supplementing would be too much. I would encourage you to find some good apologetics books to have on hand to help him navigate all that he will be exposed to that is contrary to God's Word. Some helpful places to look for apologetic resources would be: Mama Bear Apologetics, Natasha Crain, and Master Books.

      Hi Meghann! I appreciate your thoughtful question and am glad you felt comfortable enough to leave a comment on my channel.
      There are several differences between LDS doctrine and Christian doctrine. We also differ in how we define the terms that we use. The article linked below is a quick look at some of those differences. I hope it helps answer your question. I am always open to further discussion in the comments or in a private email.
      Here is the article:
