My theory since I was a kid for the why the back sprites look so bad is that they were suposed to be way smaller and last minute they were made bigger to fill more of the screen. They look ok if you reduce them to 1/4 the size. Now as an adult i accept it coukd just be to save size on the sprites bc they were running out of space on the cartrige.
Fire burns plants, ice freezes them; Ground discharges electricity; water puts out fire, cavitates rock and erodes the soil (ground). There are more but I cannot think about it right now
Dude. My mind is fuckin blown. I just checked the sprites and they all look smooth from far away. The truth is Game Freak has always been absolute bullshit and a now dwindling long string of miracles has been holding up the games since day 1. Gen 1 being released out of development hell was the first miracle. The second was Iwata fixing the shitshow that Gen 2 was about to be. Lots of good mons lost though. The third miracle was probably the fact that video game tournaments in the US finally happened giving people incentive to get good in the GBA Era. 4th Gen was awkward but the slow paced DPP let us all go at our own pace while fucking around with the GTS. This was a time when wifi was scarce so if you were poor you had to go to McDonalds for free wifi and was like visiting a real pokemon center. 5th Gen we all suddenly noticed that the anatomy of pokemon was slowly being phased out in favor of geometric toy designs. Easy to produce with cheap labor in foreign toy factories. Great games though peak coziness. 6th Gen is when it finally set in. Something soulless is going on here. Botched saves and suspiciously low pokemon pool. With Internet Hyped areas that were unaccessable and a bunch of fucking unsolved mysteries. 7th Gen was a wonderful Baja Blast flavored Pokemon experience with surreal aspects. Fight me on that! Gen 8 and 9 were overshadowed by Pokemon Go for me. Pogo is like pokemon but the story is your own life and you have to go out there and have the balls to talk to strangers just like in the games. I get all the aspects of pokemon I need without some wishful fantasy about being a super special important 11 year old in a cartoonist parody of some random country. In conclusion, play rom hacks and attempt to trade the pokemon to real games. Thanks for reading my Ted Talk
I remember in 1998 how massive Pokémon was it kinda came out of nowhere but dammit we all had a Gameboy and one of the 2 copies. The rich kids had both and every Pokémon And every kid was a liar too. Pushing a truck to get Mew my ass
Pokémon Green, Red, Blue and Japanese Yellow aren't truly black and white. They do have robust support for the Super Gameboy, an add-on for the SNES that allows Gameboy games to be played on it. When played on that they get a unique border and partial colour. They can also be played like this via Pokémon Stadium on the Nintendo 64. The international version of Pokémon Yellow added Gameboy Color support, so it uses the same colours when played on that.
Great video and great presentation. I'm surprised this was such a new channel! I reckon this is going to become a big channel as I assumed it was already
The reason the front sprites and back sprites sometimes don't match up is because only the front sprites were changed in Blue--the back sprites are still from the original Red and Green. 22:00 Incorrect; In Gen 1, because the "can't be statused by a move of your own type" was meant to prevent Ice-types from being frozen, Fire-types from being burned, etc., they forgot an edge case where Twinneedle was a Bug-type move that poisoned. Therefore, the only Pokémon truly immune to poisoning in Gen 1 were the Weedle and Venonat lines.
I like what you are doing, great video! I do find it a little distracting that you are very low down in the frame. However it doesn't ruin the video or your points.
I love red/blue and especially soul silver. My absolute top pokemon games that i always come back to play. Leaf green/fire red as well since they are enhanced versions. I wish they could remake gen 1 in the graphics of links awakening remake on the switch.

When I was a kid I remembered flying types were weak to ice because birds migrate for the winter. Past that it didn't make sense to me either.
Fire burns plants, ice freezes them; Ground discharges electricity; water puts out fire, cavitates rock and erodes the soil (ground). There are more but I cannot think about it right now
Birds can't deal with ice storms and take shelter when there's hail. That was my justification.
It's pretty obvious to most children that freezing a wing would keep a flying-type from staying airborne.
I always think back to the 2008 Iron Man movie, where he falls out of the sky due to the ice problem at high altitude

I don't know who was dumber, the kids who lied about it...or me who believed them

Hi Hidden, I enjoyed your retrospective. I feel the same way about Pokémon now. I still like it a lot

It's funny that in Western culture people would think Prof Oak doesn't like his grandson, while in fact he is just being a typical strict elder.
Churr cuz, well worded vid.
Got my sub.
You know someone is sincere about being a classic PokeFan when they played the 2.B.A.M. Pokemon Dance Mix haha
I like what you are doing, great video! I do find it a little distracting that you are very low down in the frame. However it doesn't ruin the video or your points.
It's because I'm sitting on the floor. This is a very low production value channel lol
@@HiddenRetrospectives I'm guessing there isn't a way for you to hold your camera or phone lower. It's okay dw!
Great video!
wrap doesn't automatically "full paralyze" you because it's dependant on being faster.
I too had that GameBoyColour... the see-through purple.
Did you have the red or blue pokemon game? I had Red
I had red too.
@@HiddenRetrospectives What year were you born in?
I love red/blue and especially soul silver. My absolute top pokemon games that i always come back to play. Leaf green/fire red as well since they are enhanced versions. I wish they could remake gen 1 in the graphics of links awakening remake on the switch.
I always kinda thought that choosing your Pokemon was like choosing your difficulty level (Charmander all the way).
Loved the video. Will you be covering Gold, Silver or Crystal? Or even talk about yellow version?
Oooooh. New Channel to watch 😊 will you be doing a retrospective on every generation?
finally someone who agrees that Bulbasaur is objectively the best starter for r/b/g
🎉 great vid 🤠
Well done
I hope you'll review gen 2 and 3!
i love stumbling across fellow small youtubers! this was a great deep dive. do you plan to make similar videos for other pokemon games?
Yeah eventually...hopefully
Good video!
Thanks!
Watching this makes me wanna play sv
I had to stop playing jak 2 cause of that stupid mission as well. Happy to know the ending now.
