I've always felt that the Olympics should always be played every 4 years in Greece, using and upgrading the facilities during the down years, funded by all countries participating. It would almost be like sacred ground for athletes to perform on the same arenas as previous world champions.

LA28 even said they don't have a softball venue that compares to the WCWS stadium in terms of facility and capacity. And the canoe/kayak facility in OKC is no simple venue, and is already Olympics ready. If you look at the stadiums that Paris used for soccer, some of them where 300 miles away from Paris. Also, It will give more people a chance to say they saw an Olympic competition without having to travel all the way to LA.

The Baseball and softball games shoulda been done down in San Diego instead of Oklahoma City. Petco park has hosted world baseball classic as well and voted #1 baseball stadium in MLB . It's 1 1/2 hr train ride from LA to San Diego . Angel stadium is kinda dated.
But you understand that the MLB season will be going on and softball has different dimensions right? Outfield walls will have to be moved in, bases moved in, and pitchers mound removed all while the padres continue their season. OKC has Devon park which is the home of the college softball World Series, they also have that canoe course the team USA actually uses as their training home. I get that OKC is a lot farther but if these world class facilities already exist (especially Devon park) then it makes sense to have these events there.
It's bizzare that softball will be played in Oklahoma with the myriad of softball/baseball facilities in SoCal. Most foreigners visiting for the games will be in for a surprise when they realize that they have to fly halfway across the country to watch the softball games.

One of the major reasons Los Angeles got the Olympic games was because most of the venues were built. I believe just two venues are needed. One is the velodrome for bike racing and a beach volleyball venue. Oh Oklahoma doesn't deserve to host anything. International rule state that their soccer games must be on natural grass. Los Angeles area has four large areas, the Rose bowl hosted soccer in 84 and has been renovated. Two MSL soccer stadiums. A tennis stadium in Carson. Venues are plentiful and finished.

The "USC campus pool venue" is actually not in the USC campus. It is the original swimming stadium built for the 1932 Olympics next to the Coliseum in Exposition Park.
I think San Diego could've been used for softball, but I do hope some of the other baseball games that can be played at Dodger Stadium are played there.

It's the home of USA Softball so I think it was to put it near them so all the people involved in getting it in the Olympics have it right there. But even the Athletes aren't happy because they don't get to be near the rest of Olympics. But Oklahoma's governor is an ultra conservative and thinks the Olympics is evil or pagan or whatever so maybe he will ban it from his state and the Athletes will accidentally get lucky and come back to LA.

@@lakersfan4life24 The theory behind it is that LA ain't trying to spend millions on building venues they'll never use again. Hence why softball and canoe slalom is heading to OKC. It's mainly to use pre-existing venues and to keep costs down

It's the home of USA Softball so I think it was to put it near them so all the people involved in getting it in the Olympics have it right there. But even the Athletes aren't happy because they don't get to be near the rest of Olympics. But Oklahoma's governor is an ultra conservative and thinks the Olympics is evil or pagan or whatever so maybe he will ban it from his state and the Athletes will accidentally get lucky and come back to LA.

@@toogyman Yeah, it did remind me a lot of 2012 as well. Paris and London have similar vibes as cities and the people too. Yeah, the opening ceremonies was not blessed with the best weather. It seemed like since they were the first to test out the waters doing an outdoor public ceremony, they made a lot of mistakes. The games themselves had to spark everything up and you're the Rugby 7's win sparked the games and enthusiasm for the country.

They aint building a whole ahh stadium for a temporary game. Cricket (if they are adding it) would be played at existing stadiums in Dallas, Florida etc.

Glad the track is at the Coliseum, which is historic and actually in Los Angeles (the city, not just the county). I hate SoFi stadium, mostly because of how it was financed, but yes, it is too narrow for anything but American football (which will be a disaster come the World Cup in 2026).

Anyways, SoFi was not just built for the Rams and Chargers, but they knew LA was going to have the Olympics since 2017, so SoFi kind of was built for the Olympics too just like the LA Coliseum for the 1932 games.

Rose Bowl for example is a great classic stadiums. I don't think football respects the retro look like baseball does. I like the Lambeau renovation as they still kept the classic bowl look and built on-top of it.
