      Now if only he'd tacken every corner right and had proper tyres.
      Tyres were losing grip after Hohe Acht and the unprecise cornering didn't help them. The resulting sliding makes it look more spectacular, though.

      @@ErectileSceptile - Actually he was eating less experienced drivers right and left - the cars they were driving is irrelevant. The guy himself is obviously not a professional but he’s got some fairly decent skills and has obviously run this track more than a few times. If a professional driver like Sabine Schmidt were on the track in an identically prepared car however she would have left him in the dust. It wouldn't even be a contest.

      Let’s also consider the following:
      There’s a lot more to lose if you slide your GT3/McLaren, not just a $30k sports car
      The crash in a GT3/McLaren will probably happen at higher speed
      Maybe the drivers aren’t as comfortable in their cars yet (he never caught the orange GT3)
      The ND2 is an impressive car, it’s so fun and approachable. But let’s not hate on those who are probably taking their time getting used to much more expensive, and much more capable, hardware. Stock for stock, a GT3 will run away from the MX5, I’ve driven a lot of both

      Feedback is not at the level of the previous models however, electric steering assist filters a bit more unfortunately

    • @johntechwriter
      @johntechwriter 4 роки тому +4

      Yes, the electric steering is very light at around-town speeds but as velocity and cornering forces increase, so does the weight and sensitivity of the steering. This expert driver knows what is going on with all four of the car's wheels, and that gives him the confidence to drive the car at its very limit.

      Height and..er.. girth really can be an issue with this car. I'm 5'10''/176lbs and it fits perfectly ... well... ignoring the fact that my arms are a bit too short and thus I really, really could use a telescoping steering wheel (should've waited for the facelift I guess... ;) ). However: I know guys who are taller than me and will still daily their ND.
      A buddy of mine who is 6'2/3'' also managed to drive my car no problem, but he did say he wouldn't want to take it on longer trips.

      Capable driver versus average Joe in a superior car is the case here. Although the mx5 is definitely a sport car and a brilliant one for the price, it is definitely not competitive with porsches or m series, even around bends. The lateral Gs you can achieve with the slim tires are just not up there. It can be just as enjoyable or even more, but it is NOT as fast.

      You'll find better drivers in Miatas anyway lol, the car itself trains you to be a better driver, not these pampered luxury sedans. The most raced car in the world, racing schools use them, the greatest drivers started out in Miatas, and when they retire they end up buying them over any German luxury even though they can easily afford it.
      My case still stands, people who say Miatas aren't sports cars can suck it.
