Holy shit. This is epic driving. Showing the new MX5 capability!
Jesus christ and the rotation on this car is amazing.
He was eating porsches left and right. I'm in love
Now if only he'd tacken every corner right and had proper tyres.
Tyres were losing grip after Hohe Acht and the unprecise cornering didn't help them. The resulting sliding makes it look more spectacular, though.
@@ErectileSceptile - Actually he was eating less experienced drivers right and left - the cars they were driving is irrelevant. The guy himself is obviously not a professional but he’s got some fairly decent skills and has obviously run this track more than a few times. If a professional driver like Sabine Schmidt were on the track in an identically prepared car however she would have left him in the dust. It wouldn't even be a contest.
yea and no. car is very forgiving)
Really like the fact that the circuit is actually on the gps.
Nice
It's technically a public one-way toll road, so they have to put it on there :)
Same 😂
Wow! That was an amazing lap. Hell of a driver and a really impressive car. Even thanked the cars he passed! What a legend.

the arms have too much hair to be a woman's, no way thats sabine

Facelifted ND is one of the best new car that you can buy right now.
They didn't facelift it... they changed the engine.
Its overpriced though.
@@Leonidae Agree! For that money I chose Caterham
@@r129r16pfl I cant see how the two cars are comparable. This is a car that is a comfortable, decently equipped daily driver whereas a Caterham or even a Lotus is definitely not. The mx5 desperately needs more power though, I dont think 181 is gonna cut it. I ve driven the 155 version a lot and I find it un-exciting in anything but tight corners.
MX-5 is to soft for me, I need more hard core car for daily use, just a steering wheel, 3 pedals and a gear stick, no sound deadening, no music, no nothing, it's my ideal car, like a bike on 4 wheels.
Bet you got 30mpg as well. What a great car Mazda!
And it'll run rings around the BMW dealerships while they're in for their expensive and regular repairs err... "maintenance".
@@layne4376 You would be surprised. Likely is getting 25+mpg even WOT this much.
@@layne4376 Spec Miata's consistently get 14mpg. Get gud and hold more momentum.
The Skyactiv's are incredibly fuel efficient though. Won't believe it until you drive one through some tanks.
@@layne4376 ND runs fully-closed-loop fueling so it's much more efficient at high-load. No more default fuel trim under WOT.
There is nothing in common with the previous model which had ford engine, this engine is crazy efficient
7:43 that slide at around 180 kmh, amazing save! What is the name of that great driver? Hats off!
Overall is good but he actually messed up all the lines in that section you mentioned.
@@MorningSunComesAgain maybe for show purposes? It is like mx5 - for fun not for time attack:)
I would not do that for show, but I'm not a professional driver, so just my impression :)
I think that by the time he got to that section, the tires were starting to lose some grip. There was a lot more tire noise and sliding here than anywhere else.
Was thinking just before 4.00 was pretty epic as well.
Me: "So how were the brakes?" Driver "I wouldn't know"
Driver : ermmm ..... Yes!
I've just bought a new MX-5 with the extra 23 bhp. At least the manufactures are correct in stating that their new engine will now rev to 7,500rpm. If I tried power sliding mine I'll probably end up in a ditch. An incredible piece of driving!
Graham Bevan Lucky! My dad and I have a MK2 as a project car. I love it!
its a great car, you gonna have tons of fun with it :D
I test drove the new car last week and power sled comfortably after 15 min of acquaintance in this completely friendly and unfrightening little joyride. Still, it is not comparable to a higher spec car where you have to juggle with more power ang higher lateral Gs. I would have never done the same for example with a Porsche Boxter after 15 minutes.
Well it's not a Porche Boxter. (And we're so glad it isn't!)
Graham Bevan I don’t think all of them are pro drivers just rich guys trying not to crash their cars, but yeah that’s such a good car👌🏻
that transmission whine is superb!
I had so much fun just by watching. No talking, no nonsense, no BS. Just pure fun, especially when all other cars are breaking so hard on corners while you on the otherhand is just playing the throttle.Supercool!😎
Juste cool !
I love my MK4 MX5 for this reason! :)
Other people: Don't brake on curves.
This guy: Don't brake
Only slows you down.
That's coz Miata
Miata engine braking is superb 👌
Down shift at 5000+rpm is just another kind of brake i think
Its easy to not brake when youre already going slow
Toujours un joli coup de volant Mr Sentis!
J'aurais adoré être passager!
Et cette voiture, une totale réussite!
I've never driven a car that was so accessible and so much fun at the same time at the price. MX-5 is one of a kind.
Excellent momentum-based driving with a modest power output car. Lots of nice counter steer moments from 6:17 onwards.
Thank you, there was no traffic from the karussell so we could push a little bit more

This is the real life Takumi.
Powersliding the car out of the corner while still maintaining speed. This means he is not showboating but actually pushing the tires to the limit of grip like 4% slip.
All he needs now is a those techno beat music and a plastic cup filled with water.

Most impressive. A standard roadster for puttering down to the shops or cruising the beach at sunset mixing it with GP Porsches costing many times the MX5. Note the tacho hovering in the 7 grand range. What a car!
Impressive driving skills. He looks totally calm and chilled while driving the car at its limits. Even on the last quarter, where the tires go hot and he starts to drift a little bit he counterstering and go forward to the finish without moving slower. Really nice dude!

This video convinced me to buy my 2021 MX5 RF
I just wish more guys understood that this is the ideal, the benchmark. Dream to reach this level, where you can drive something like a hatchback, Miata or GT86 at its limit, before moving onto your BMWs, let alone your Porsches or McLarens!
So many idiots think driving is about just hitting the gas and having the most power. It's depressing watching some idiots on the road. Honestly...! lol
Have you watched the nurburgring crash/fail videos? The majority of these guys crashing are BMW owners.
@@LionelHutz619 lol, savage.
Well, unless they deliberately show off, then there's nothing to hate about them.
They don't go to the track, they race at stoplights where Miatas lose to minivans and pickup trucks. Even Priuses if you're in an NA.
@Tarun Shrivastava Amen! Someone famous once said that it's a lot more fun driving a slow car fast, than a fast car slow. I'm just an (almost) senior citizen with a naturally aspirated NA, but commuting back and forth to work, with an intersection corner here and there, is one of the best parts of my day. And a bit of Jethro Tull competing with an amiable 4,000 rpm hum doesn't hurt either.
Brilliant driving! Lovely control on the limit. No panicking!

Great driving!! The new MX-5 is awesome and you have some big balls. Great lap! Would have love to see some of the turns from a camera on the side of the track.
Quel sang froid et quelle maitrise ! Superbe video, merci.
Magnifique vidéo. La voiture est très équilibrée selon toute vraissemblance. C'est un cas unique: une voiture de 2018, doté d'un moteur atmosphérique, en propulsion avec un véritable lsd et le tout à bon prix.
Wow. I 'am really amazed: a 2018 car with a naturally aspired engine, rwd with lsd you can afford at good price.
I think you lapped everyone, great driving skills. You out drove the tires. I can imagine when you upgrade tires, suspension and feed force induction. Hats off to you.
Man, I love the new MX5, that extra power compliments the chassis nicely. Some excellent driving too, fantastic stuff!!!
I look forward to these tests the most.
Merci, Professeur Sentis!

If that is on the same stock tires I had then you are a very brave man. If those are stock sway bars then you are even more of a savage. Wish I had a legendary racetrack in my backyard lol. Very nice driving
Me encanta esos momentos de equilibrio casi perfecto en los que el coche redondea la curva con el volante prácticamente recto, precioso!
What a great car Mazda made and a great driving also there. Many thanks for the uploading. What's the meaning of having over 400HP when a stock Miata can demolish you on a track?
giorx5 If you don't know how to use those 400 horses and your car handles like crap, then you will indeed get beaten by one, it's like putting Lance Stroll in a Mercedes and Fernando Alonso in a Renault
Because if I don’t have 400 horsepower I’ll get REALLY demolished 😔
Let’s also consider the following:
There’s a lot more to lose if you slide your GT3/McLaren, not just a $30k sports car
The crash in a GT3/McLaren will probably happen at higher speed
Maybe the drivers aren’t as comfortable in their cars yet (he never caught the orange GT3)
The ND2 is an impressive car, it’s so fun and approachable. But let’s not hate on those who are probably taking their time getting used to much more expensive, and much more capable, hardware. Stock for stock, a GT3 will run away from the MX5, I’ve driven a lot of both
@@dotdot8614 This comment aged strangely well
@@corynivens6510 Yeah. In a miata you might be able to keep up with a Rx7 or skyline, but when the straight comes, all the cars you passed will take off.

epic driving skill. Your shift rev match is perfect!!! you the man
L'équilibre du châssis à l'air juste génial sur cette mx5 et les limites repoussées très loin, et un grand merci au pilote pour son super coup de volant comme d'hab !
great driving man, the way you let the car slip under braking and slightly adjust it with the counter steering but in a quick way really makes me enjoy this video
sounded like the tires were gone by the end. He passed up some much faster cars which had drivers that weren't pushing their cars hard. I had to do a double take when he passed up the McLaren. Very good driving.
The engine upgrade really completes the car. The first engine just felt like a transplanted economy car engine. Glad Mazda recognized this and improved it. Also, fantastic driving and what an impressive chassis. Never once did you look caught out or surprised.
i guess the fun thing about a lightweight car is that cornering speed :D
great vid
Great driving. Keeps his cool and delivers precise driving the whole time.
Nice driving, new mx5 has lots of potential!
Such mastery. The drifts towards the end were nice additions.
Very good driving, nice and smooth
Watching this makes appreciate the gran turismo video games even more. Every curve, is exactly the same. Even the car noises and effects.
Great driving :-) And wow, what an incredible balance this car has :-O Seems like a lot of fun to drive. Did the steering convey the grip status of the front tyres well?
Yes it did ;)
That's refreshing to hear, thank you :-)
Feedback is not at the level of the previous models however, electric steering assist filters a bit more unfortunately
Yes, the electric steering is very light at around-town speeds but as velocity and cornering forces increase, so does the weight and sensitivity of the steering. This expert driver knows what is going on with all four of the car's wheels, and that gives him the confidence to drive the car at its very limit.
Best mx-5 ever!!
I felt like I was watching a video game, that Miata was glued!
I've got the ND club. It's totally glued to the road. I have never driven a car this fun to drive. Awesome vehicles!
@@kennethm.380 I had a 2016 ND Club for about a year. I loved it! I have an NA now and just as fun. Cant beat a Miata.

Before somebody got the right to criticize the driver .....do it better!!!! ...if you dont ....better stay calm!!!! ...to the Pilot : Very nice driving !!! Thank you for showing!!!!
Good job man! 👌👏 Really enjoyed that little NA engine reving up. This is what driving used to mean... now they want their RS's or Teslas and do 'computerized' launches with cars with power waaaay beyond their driving skills. Cheers to you for keeping it real.

Really cool car! I'm so glad they updated the ND engine (reminds me of the nice 2.0L NC engine)! Also, I'm really surprised the tires didn't hold up longer. The level of grip dropped off pretty noticeably around 6:45 .
I like how he slides on that second turn, great driver.
He can feel the car weight pretty well.Steering can go even more minimum. He can understand that the faster way around a corner is by steering less and moderate speed slight clutching light braking.
Excellent drive. Congratz. Love the car!
"Miatas aren't really sports cars"
*eats Porsches and BMWs around the bends*
Well I guess they aren't either lol
Capable driver versus average Joe in a superior car is the case here. Although the mx5 is definitely a sport car and a brilliant one for the price, it is definitely not competitive with porsches or m series, even around bends. The lateral Gs you can achieve with the slim tires are just not up there. It can be just as enjoyable or even more, but it is NOT as fast.
You can't be serious?
Put a better driver in that porsche, it'll destroy the mx-5. "eats porsche and bmws" lol.
@@LionelM3ssi10 I'm sure you missed the Top Gear episode where an Evo kept up with a V12 Lambo - fatass Clarkson in the Evo and a Touring Champion in the Lambo.
You'll find better drivers in Miatas anyway lol, the car itself trains you to be a better driver, not these pampered luxury sedans. The most raced car in the world, racing schools use them, the greatest drivers started out in Miatas, and when they retire they end up buying them over any German luxury even though they can easily afford it.
My case still stands, people who say Miatas aren't sports cars can suck it.
Dont be fooled. The people in supercars might be driving for the first time on the ring.

I love how you can hear the transmission at high load :) My old Mazda 6 does the same thing, Ford focus I owned before didn't do that... I know I'm a nerd ;)
Just that slight whine in the background of the engine noise.
Gives it a more raw feel to the car, like the car is working as hard as you are if not harder.

Hey man im there with you. I’m 6’3” and I’d give away a few inches if I could
The 2019 MX5 is actually bigger in the cockpit. Now taller people can fit. Not sure how much improvement they did tho
I’m 6’3” - 250lbs and I fit pretty well. Comfortable even.
Height and..er.. girth really can be an issue with this car. I'm 5'10''/176lbs and it fits perfectly ... well... ignoring the fact that my arms are a bit too short and thus I really, really could use a telescoping steering wheel (should've waited for the facelift I guess... ;) ).
