Great vid! Love your passion, patience and attention to detail which I also share. You inspired me to become more clean with my work. It is a challenge.
Staying clean and keeping my tile clean is important to me as well. For some reason I can set clean tile on any day unless it’s 36” or 48” planks. Maybe on Monday we will see! Great video & solid install!
Nate, such an enjoyable video as always Bud!!! In laying mulch I'll run 2 wheelbarrows max before spreading the mulch. I do NOT yards at a time & go back to rake. I can't help myself. I'll start at the foundation of the house making sure the mulch is as level as can be up against the house & NEVER walk back over an area I have completely raked out. Maybe & I mean maybe ONE wheelbarrow of touch up at the very end & then a rake over any foot prints. This process takes a bit longer but, I find it way more enjoyable & I can control the final outcome better. Hoping all is well Bud, Dirty Jersey out!!
Hi Nathan, what trowel size are you using here and what size trowel would you recommend for a 1x6 inch (1/2” thick”) marble mosaic floor install over ditra. I’ll be using allset over and under the ditra.
Did you add another layer of plywood, 3/8" minimum? Marble is very soft, so the subfloor will need strengthened first. 1x6 will most likely be ok, but I would talk to a Schluter rep if possible. 2x2" and smaller marble mosaic does have some risk of cracking under heels, or intense point loads, etc.
I’m starting from scratch and planning on self leveling over concrete, then allset, then ditra, then allset and marble mosaic. If you think it will crack I’ll take your word for it and use something else. Thank you for the quick reply!
There are other uncoupling membranes without that specific limitation in their literature. Many self levelers can also function as a suitable subfloor for marble mosaic, but they'd more special order type products. I would check on a leveler from ardex, uzin, or Laticrete.
Nathan, great video, amazing attention to detail. I have a question. There is almost no videos on marble over ditra floors. I'm installing Calcatta Gold and Bardiglio Grey 12 x 12 checker board pattern over Ditra Heat floors. The stone supplier recommends Laticrete 253 gold, Schluter Systems require using their All Set in white. Do you know if the latter posses any problems with marble. I'm also installing .5" penny marble on a Schluter Shower System (membrane) floor, any advice on what adhesive to use seeing that it has a mesh backing. TA
Hey man, can you please tell me how did you install mosaic over the ditra heat because they don’t warranty it? Did your skim of heat and cover it with pink skin?
Nathan I put the Ditra heat down on shower pan and then saw that tiles less than 2x2 could be a problem. I want to put mosaic basket weave down, think I’m ok?
Cover it with kerdi. This is required for 2 things. 1, the heat cables in a shower need the layer of kerdi over top for waterproofing. 2. The kerdi will allow you to use the small format mosaic. If you have technical issues, reach out to schluter. They have great support! Good luck!
Tile setter myself for over 25 years. I enjoy your content. Often still picking up small tips along the way. Always learning. Question. I have a large bathroom in which Ditra heat will be used. Mosaic tiles porcelain sheets. Have you any experience with self leveling over heat before covering with kerdi to waterproof? My thoughts are it would make for installing mosaics easier.

Appreciate you saying that. Tile is so messy. If you don't keep it reigned in, things get out of control fast! Lol
Absolutely beautiful

Those big boys are a struggle! Appreciate you 🤝🏼

Great craftsmanship brother…

Marble over any floor requires appx 1" of subfloor. Allset will work fine i believe. The penny tiles will require kerdi over the ditra underlayment.
Allset should do everything you need, but I'd call their technical department to verify.
Thank you. Appreciate your responses

Did anyone notice the pattern mistake on the tilable drain grate? It's fixed now 🤪

Schluter wants to see the leveler under the ditra. Thanks for commenting and watching, and good luck 🤙🏼
Isn’t it recommended to not use under 2x2 mosaics over ditra heat?
Yeah I’m confused
