I think Ghanaian and Nigerian are so similar but lots of different words and ways of saying things according to my research. I’m Ghanaian myself and I learnt that they are not completely different. The reason why Sierra Leoneans understand Nigerian Pidgin is because some of it is influenced from the Yoruba language whereas Ghanaians we tend to have Twi (Akan) language which may be hard for a Sierra Leonean or a Nigerian to understand our pidgin. There are certain words we use are the same as Nigerians though since it’s closer to English but not all.
I'm a Ghanaian, we started speaking pidgin somewhere in the late 80s and became popular in the 90s. I believe the returnees from Nigeria in the early 80s introduced pidgin in Ghana. So maybe, I must say Ghanaian pidgin was born out of Nigerian pidgin and Liberia's cruel... I stand to be corrected.
*Note* Pidgin get levels for naija ooh. And one thing I like about Nigerian pidgin is that anyhow you express yourself, like anyword you use to relate to the situation, man go get. You get??
