The best part of this video was calling your family in to eat together at the end. Families don't do that enough these days and important to expose the young ones to these great traditions. No phones at the table!
Hi Clay, Nicely presented.. Massachusetts here 🦌 season is open. Haven’t been able to get out yet , but your recipe is helping me out the door.. A favor request please.. Hold some of your spices to the camera for 4/5 sec for a screenshot. It would be much appreciated..Thank you
Never tried that, didn’t even think of it. Looks good, also got your book a couple of days ago, well written lots of good info. If you guys out there haven’t got it yet, do so. Thanks clay
Love these cooking tips I tried for years to cook shanks and they never turned out good but now I know I was cooking them way to quickly at to high of heat
Have always loved your bow vids this new series of cooking too is so nice! Beautiful family man, best times in our house were around the table eating fresh wild game
You should do a "Cast Iron - Use it Right" video. I have a bunch of cast iron, most of it is newer crap that I have to grind down and polish to a smooth surface....some of it works good, others are sticky no matter how many coats of flaxseed oil seasoning I give them. Would love to hear your perspective.
@@clayhayeshunter I did a blade in roast last night that was very similar minus the wine and carrots oh and I put the taters in the stew but an awesome meal
that looks amazing! great job! i make it with bell pepper instead of the carrots, some parsley as well. the red wine is great, but i frequently use guinness as well, but i cook the vegies till mushed, then serve it all on toasted baguettes. if you use a fatty brisket, you got amazing french dip. thanks Clay! now excuse me while i go raid the refrigerator.
What I love the most is that your Bay Leaves are also from the 1980’s like mine. Gives me hope.
😜

p.s.- I'll substitute heavy cream for the half&half in mashed taters...but the real secret is you have to hand mash them.
I can do that.
Looks so good :) Merry Christmas Y'all

That sounds amazing! There are all kinds of variations to this dish.
Hey Clay, is deer fat good for cooking, and does it taste good? Or is it best to remove all the fat when cleaning and breaking down the meat? Thanks
I remove as much as practical. It tends to have a chalky feel in the mouth.
you are the best ^^
Awesome; seen too many hunters just toss the shank....dad always taught me, you kill eat...ya better eat it.
I used to grind mine until I discovered braising.
Clay Hayes
Same here. Not really even good ground up but braised...no better. Just did some last night. Thx for video
You can't go wrong with cast iron and bacon.
That’s pretty much my thoughts as well.
Pepper O' cini's
You need a man apron instead of wiping your hands on your jeans lol...
