Not really. There are NBA players playing for other countries as well. Technically, the US basketball team are the world champions. Either way, Noah Lyles comment was addressing teams with players from various countries. And he's correct that the Boston Celtics are not the world champions, because they're only competing against teams in North America. They very well may be the best team on the world, but they are not world champions until they prove it

The only people calling them world champions is the people who watch basketball, so in this case Noah is incorrect because he doesn’t use actual facts. He is not a world champion either track and field only participate in the world championships every 4 years just like every other sport that takes part of the Olympic Games. There other people who are not from the US that participates on the USA track and field team to win gold medals does that make the track and field less of world championship team. You all don’t know anything about either sport and if you did you would know what he said was incorrect and ignorant as Stephan said the first time.

So, he actually is a world champion. And he's addressing the notion that people consider NBA fans, media and some players consider the team that wins the championship to be world champions. You're right on, come to think of it, the World Series is also improperly named. Compare that with soccer's, cricket's and rugby's World Cups, where the best nations in those sports compete against each other. At the end of the day, the winner is indeed the World Champion, and deserves that title.
It wasn't arrogance. The name, World Series, came from a time when baseball was only played in the United States. It's an American sport, and so at one time, the name wasn't untrue. Tradition has keep the name for the event going. Perhaps it should change, but do you think the majority of the American public is going to want to change their national pastimes championship name because other countries decided to play it also?
