  • I love collecting storage drives and should probably cut down on my collection a bit. Hard drives, SSD's and NVMe drives are all an important part of a PC build, since they are where your data will live. It can be tempting to go all out and buy the fastest drives possible, but there is lots of value elsewhere.
    Hard disk drives use physical disks to write and read data via a small magnetic needle. This makes them fragile, but they are fairly cheap and can be used as long as you take care of them. SSDs are much faster and physically stable but can hurt your wallet.
    The best of both worlds is to use a small SSD for your system files and frequently accessed programs while using an HDD for bulk file storage like videos or photos.
