I have decluttered us from 2,000 square feet to 320 so we could live in a garage apt to be next to my mother in-law. I started 10 years ago because I caught the vision of less and then we were able to move in here six years ago pretty easily. My MIL is now 95 and I don’t regret it at all.
I have very few regrets about anything I got rid of and continue to make trips to donate more all the time. It never seems to end and we don’t shop and bring much in that is new. For a few months I have been making pottery and some I have wanted to keep so I need to practice the one in one out rule before it becomes too much. I do miss rearranging my furniture. Our apt is the size of two parking spaces with kitchen and living room on one side with a wall separating the bedroom and bathroom. We recently bought a king size bed that is two x long twins. We have to crawl in from the bottom because they just fit. We have to crawl in and out from the bottom and I crawl in again every morning to make them from the top. We are 72 so may age out of this situation since my MIL is in excellent health. I love your apt and a storage room is so valuable. We do have a shed so that saves us.

Wow Denise that is quite a transition! I'm impressed that you have made such a small space work and are enjoying the benefits of living so simply. Even for me, it's been a joy to have less stuff to clean and maintain. Thanks for watching! 😍

Hi Lilibet, Sorry I missed watching this video live as it would have been great to interact as you were talking about this topic. You made some interesting and helpful points about downsizing and moving to an apartment which, as you know, is of interest to me at this time. You mentioned that you have been downsizing to make life easier and that this was one "why" for decluttering. In my case, this is a major motivation, as well as removing things that bring negative or unhelpful thoughts and feelings. As you say, it is important to get rid of the large items before a downsizing move. We have almost sold all our furniture and are almost camping in our house. Many items we have had for 40 years and they have many memories attached, but letting them go has been easy when we have a strong "why" and also when we meet the lovely people who are taking over their care. We are focusing on the positives and excitement of our move while we push ourselves to do this difficult work. We just try to move a step or two forward each day according to our feelings and energy levels. Good luck with your storage cage. It will be interesting to hear how it all went. I hope it is not too arduous. Look after yourself ❤

Hey Rena! Well done on selling so much of your furniture. I know it's a lot of physical and emotional work. But also exciting to be moving forward to your new low maintenance life, with hopefully a few smaller sized keep sakes 😉❤️

I wish I had seen this live. I just found your channel and I love it. I am personally going through a journey of simplifying of my home. I’m going through this process very slowly. I live in an apartment as well and my goal is to have everything we own in my apartment with breathing room.
