Damn this unlocked a core memory, I remember playing castlevania for the NES for the first time just a few years ago. Strangely enough I kinda felt like I heard this music before but in a mario game. Turns out I played this game a loong time ago and I remembered the music because it slaps.
I remember it being on the front cover with shareware/freeware game collections at the store. Don't know how they got away with it. Countless fan games have been taken down. I enjoyed this game enough to finish it. Most Mario fan games are really difficult or not as compelling as this one.
Engine seemed to play pretty well for something made in 2001, but for a Mario fangame, despite having Castlevania elements, this sure had unexpected levels of violence.
Oh, man. So many memories. Actually managed to beat this one. For a fan-made game, especially back then, it is a legit masterpiece. Unfortunately it lags on my PC, but I would love to play his one again :D
I remember my cousin gave me a small hard floppy disk with that game on it back in the day and I forgot if I beat it back then or not, thanks to your video I remember. Thx alot for sharing this beautiful fan game with the new generations.
your idea for remaking this game is still valid, as the game doesnt run properly (even in compatibility mode) on newer windows operating systems like windows 7 and onward. i encountered lags, audio glitches, graphical errors and crashes while trying to longplay this for myself
I really did want to play this, but like all earlier Clickteam product made games, it has that random but frequent glitch where sounds will start repeating over and over and it freezes when there's no keyboard input which makes it become too annoying and impractical to keep playing. Thanks for the LP so I got to actually see more than stage 1. lol I have a protection breaking program though and was able to open the game in MMF2, but I can't play it because it uses a bunch of extensions MMF2 doesn't have. Apparently the game has an 8-1 and 8-2 but 8-1 is just a single room and 8-2 looks like a copy of the Bowser fight but you're both on the other side of the room.
@@Matth33w I can easily dump every single asset from the game with a different program if that would help you along at all. Getting MMF2 to actually be able to open it is kind of a pain or else I could just send you that instead.

I saw that error before. Mostly it's a operating system compartibility problem and the way of CCA games worked back in the day. What "fixed" my issue was make it run in Windows XP mode. The result can vary on each PC, but after i did It, the game worked fine.
You need to open the game on compatibility mode with Windows 95. That should fix most of the issues. By the way, I'm actually coding a remastered version of this game if you are interested. You can literally play the demo of it online at www.newgrounds.com/portal/view/879929

from what i remembered is that boss of stage 5 is quite difficult, but i didn't know that this stage can be skipped

Run Task Manager in admin, right-click the process and choose Select Affinity, then turn off all the checkbox except CPU 0

I had a CD-ROM with this game on it, back in the day i was only able to reach stage 4 since it was too hard for me, haha!
