    The finish....Every time I think about it, I think of the footage of the Porsche coming out of the Ford chicanes. I see the Toyota just about to be overtaken and think, this has to be one of the most significant moments in motorsport history. Those few frames of the Porsche and Toyota will be in the history books for years and years to come. Seeing and hearing it all happen in the moment in several livestreams was heartbreaking, but a special moment. This was the first Le Mans I actually sat down and watched the race, and what a year to begin.
    On a side note, I'm grateful to be living in a time where a young man like me can be able to watch one of the coolest events in the world live on the other side of the planet.

      This has happened to Porsche also, back in 1969 when they were still chasing an outright victory. The lost by about 120m on the last lap to a GT40. A faulty brake light (suspecting brake failure) caused it on the last few laps.

    I hoped for a Porsche or Audi Win, but 8:50 was heartbreaking.
    Audi got lucky, but they also got rewarded for displaying the german fighting spirit, to never give up.
    And yes it was pure luck on their part, that they actually got on the podium, but it was determination to not give up that gave the the chance to have that luck.
    Mainly luck though.

    • @LupusAries
      @LupusAries 8 років тому +2

      ***** Well, the first thing I noticed was during the broadcast there suddenly was a radio call from the leading Toyota at 6 minutes to go that they had no power.
      He then crept at 200 where he should go 320.
      The Porsche got the order to push hard, at that time 52 seconds back, then Toyota had to stop on the home straight in front of the box, and they tried to reset, and got passed by the Porsche at that time around.
      That was at 23:55 Hours driven.
      It seems like they had restarted it and could move of atleast into the finish, but it didn't made it that far.
      Really, really, sad.
      You know, they had driven such a good race, I didn't feel bad that Porsche couldn't do it, they were just that good, and then boom with one lap to go......

    "I Have learnt in Le Mans, that the race is never over before the finish is really there. I Always push myself, not thinking about its done. Because it is done when the checkered flag is down."
    that's from Dr. Wolfgang Ullrich from 'Truth in 24 II' movie, about how to win Le Mans... but this case toyota had the edge until the worst dream in their life.. where they have to surrender the victory in the last 5 minute.. hope they will come back, fix their problem they had in this year's Le Mans not only for Toyota but also for Audi, so 3 manufactures can give the best edge and the best competition for the spectators not only in the circuit but around the world.

    PORSCHE!!! Porsche has so dominated LeMans they were able to take a decade off and still maintain a comfortable lead in all-time LeMans victories. Only when Audi began creeping up did they return. Since then, one DNF (leading!) and now two victories. In three years. After taking like forever off. Porsche. There really is no substitute.

      That spin and the subsequent pit stop to fix the damage (which was already there in the morning due previous contact) lost the #6 a chance to get into 2nd place (which could have then won after #5 failing), but I wouldn't say that spin is more important than the final lap failure of #5...

    wait so they're are technically multiple races going on during the same time so the car in 1st place for a certain class is the winner of that race ? I'm confused d

      Ivan Gutierrez their are 4 classes, each with class winners. The overall winner is the car which finishes that does the most laps.

    i wana see f1 and lmp1 race who do u think will win

    • @StarcraftDave
      @StarcraftDave 8 років тому +6

      If they race for 2 hours, the F1 cars will win. They are faster. If they race for 24 hours, the LMP1 cars will win because the F1 cars will all break down. They don't really directly compare because they're designed for different things.

    • @JacobGames66
      @JacobGames66 8 років тому +2

      F1 are faster on overall lap pace, but LMP1 is faster on a straight because of less drag due to the wheels being covered, also LMP1 cars have over 1000HP, F1 don't

    • @StarcraftDave
      @StarcraftDave 8 років тому +1

      Top speed at le mans over the weekend was 343 kph, top speed at baku over the weekend was 378kph.
      Horsepower by itself isn't a good measurement due to the large differences in weight and aero.

    • @JacobGames66
      @JacobGames66 8 років тому

      dave F1 - 240mph
      WEC - 220mph
      Yes, but also the fact that Toyota last year increase by 3-5seconds a lap and they were dead slow, whereas F1 needs rule changes just to increase in speed is proof that in a few years LMP1 will be faster if the FIA allow it, as they would want F1 to be the faster to still be considered the pinnacle. So actually the answer to the OP would be F1 but if the FIA didn't want to keep LMP1's slower then it would be even or maybe a LMP1 win

    • @1compaqedr8
      @1compaqedr8 8 років тому +3

      I like LMP1 more because of the innovative approach that change every year and less restrictive rules. Also drivers and teams seem to have more passion for racing and no talk of petty social drama.

      They finished 1st and 3rd in their class, that's 18th and 20th overall. There is no way that a GT car will end up on a Le Mans podium today, the cars are way to reliable.

    Can someone explain to me how Le Mans(Endurance racing) works?
    Is the winner who ever is in first place at the end of the 24 hours? Or is it whoever set the best lap time in the 24 hours?

    • @raihanzulfaibrahim3413
      @raihanzulfaibrahim3413 8 років тому +2

      Well, the winner is the car who ran for most laps in 24h race and (of course) ahead everyone

    • @Ewane
      @Ewane 6 років тому +1

      18 Jsingh the car which is first after 24 hours, best lap time wouldn't be a Endurance as it would be based on 200 seconds.

    Somehow this race gave to the opponents as much chance as it took from them. Porsche - the 1st one but with one car in the fight. If the other car didn't brake, Toyota may not be even second. Toyota - long time leader and nothing serious happened but bad luck at the end. Audi - many problems and spent time in the pit but still on the podium.

    • @tonydmty1234567
      @tonydmty1234567 8 років тому +2

      Yes this is what an Endurance Race is all about. Bittersweet emotions here. But the best one have to finish and win! Porsche for the Win!
      Btw, this is much better than F1 for me.
      ";-)

    • @flagstoneful
      @flagstoneful 8 років тому

      Of course it is. Here you're watching 24h race with cars from different classes, with different spec., some with 4WD, some are hybrid, diesel fueled with 1000hp and above, with closed cockpit and so on. Audi made aerodynamic construction trying to pass the air through the car. The committee think about allowing fuel cell-introducing. This can attract BMW and there gonna be much more drama, especially for Audi. Not to mention that this kind of race is much earlier than F1 or NASCAR (the last one sucks).

    Why are the headlights yellow on some cars?

    • @SKreapergaming

      probably for the drivers to not have their eyes burnt at night

    • @lpforever1854
      @lpforever1854 7 років тому

      The GT cars have to use yellow headlights to seperate them from the prototypes.

    • @SKreapergaming
      @SKreapergaming 7 років тому

      seriously? i really thought they used a yellow light to help keep the driver's eyes relaxed for long-term racing, when a single race lasts very long, because the blue light would energize them which would lead to a "crash" later, much like a "sugar crash", but by those standards, they would have also started a race with the lights yellow, and over time slowly made them become blue, idk, i guess your answer would make more sense, but what im saying KINDA makes sense too
      EDIT: nevermind a simple google search answered my question, you sir are correct, it is to make certain drivers get out of the way for the faster cars

    He visto varias carreras de Le Mans pero la de este año se puede calificar como la mas injusta de siempre pero decir que estos " fallos " haran fortalecer a Toyota y que el proximo año será la revancha. Enhorabuena a Ford y a Ferrari por el triunfo en sus categorías.
