The finish....Every time I think about it, I think of the footage of the Porsche coming out of the Ford chicanes. I see the Toyota just about to be overtaken and think, this has to be one of the most significant moments in motorsport history. Those few frames of the Porsche and Toyota will be in the history books for years and years to come. Seeing and hearing it all happen in the moment in several livestreams was heartbreaking, but a special moment. This was the first Le Mans I actually sat down and watched the race, and what a year to begin. On a side note, I'm grateful to be living in a time where a young man like me can be able to watch one of the coolest events in the world live on the other side of the planet.
This has happened to Porsche also, back in 1969 when they were still chasing an outright victory. The lost by about 120m on the last lap to a GT40. A faulty brake light (suspecting brake failure) caused it on the last few laps.
Toyota cheated in that WRC championship, but yes it was a good race even though there were a few things wrong with it. Edit: or did Toyota cheat in a past WRC championship.

And yes it was pure luck on their part, that they actually got on the podium, but it was determination to not give up that gave the the chance to have that luck. Mainly luck though.
***** Well, the first thing I noticed was during the broadcast there suddenly was a radio call from the leading Toyota at 6 minutes to go that they had no power. He then crept at 200 where he should go 320. The Porsche got the order to push hard, at that time 52 seconds back, then Toyota had to stop on the home straight in front of the box, and they tried to reset, and got passed by the Porsche at that time around. That was at 23:55 Hours driven. It seems like they had restarted it and could move of atleast into the finish, but it didn't made it that far. Really, really, sad. You know, they had driven such a good race, I didn't feel bad that Porsche couldn't do it, they were just that good, and then boom with one lap to go......
+LupusAries Very sad for Toyota. The overall leader for most part of the race got beaten in the last few minutes... As you say, 8:50 was indeed heartbreaking.

This seems like a really exciting race and I can find the next three on youtube so maybe during this quarantine period you can gift us all with the full race :) I never got to see it
What a year this was. The cars were beautiful, the finish was amazing. Porsche winning, Ford winning in their first year back in decades, Ford v Ferrari v Porsche battle was good
What I'm always impressed by is the fact, that the diesel prototypes don't sound like they are going fast in the cockpit (like Audi R18 and Peugeot 908 HDI FAP)... but they are.

RLM reckon it was the same issue from Spa, turbo failure. Oh well maybe 26 years after the only Japanese manufacturer win Toyota might get it, they have the speed now.

Of course it is. Here you're watching 24h race with cars from different classes, with different spec., some with 4WD, some are hybrid, diesel fueled with 1000hp and above, with closed cockpit and so on. This can attract BMW and there gonna be much more drama, especially for Audi. Not to mention that this kind of race is much earlier than F1 or NASCAR (the last one sucks).
seriously? i really thought they used a yellow light to help keep the driver's eyes relaxed for long-term racing, when a single race lasts very long, because the blue light would energize them which would lead to a "crash" later, much like a "sugar crash", but by those standards, they would have also started a race with the lights yellow, and over time slowly made them become blue, idk, i guess your answer would make more sense, but what im saying KINDA makes sense too EDIT: nevermind a simple google search answered my question, you sir are correct, it is to make certain drivers get out of the way for the faster cars
