Good point guards at the high school, NCAA, and professional level all reward teammates who hit shots and they stop looking for guys who aren't hitting shots. If you don't understand that, then you probably never played with a high level point guard.

    Ngl..... As a 50yr old dude that watched basketball in the 80s and 90s..... MAGIC JOHNSON was the most exciting and electric player Ive ever seen!!! I loved Dr J, Dominique, MJ, AI, Reggie Miller, Shawn Kemp.... all the usual suspects!! But that LAKER "SHOWTIME" FASTBREAK was unbelievable!!! People watched regular Laker games like it was the finals.... on any random weekend!!! It was beyond exciting!!!

    You can tell Magic is a sensitive guy. If MJ heard them parents talking like that, be would make sure to score all 25 of the teams point next time instead of 23.
    Still, I love Magic way of thinking, its how I like to play too. Everyone is more motivated when they get to do something on the court.

      I don't think it's about winning, but rather about HOW you play the game.
      Personally I like winning but in the end it's more about giving it your best.
      If you win then, well that's nice.
      If you lose, no problem at all because.....
      It's just a game.

      It cracks me up when these kids say guys back then couldn't do this or that. They could do it. But most likely whatever these kids think is cool to do would get you sitting next to the coach on the bench.

    He was always my favorite as a kid.
    Made me think passing was the coolest play in basketball. A team that always cuts the lanes. And is always passing is the best basketball to watch. If you double teamed somebody on the lakers, 4 passes later someone shooting a lay-up

    Magic made passing exciting! How many players make you want to go back and practice how they pass? His vision on the court was unprecedented and unmatched to this day. His ability to trick defenses was amazing. Magic made "Showtime" and the Lakers were so exciting to watch.

      Most of the stars in that era were known for shooting whenever they got the ball. Magic & Bird started getting ink because they would pass. They were exceptions in that era.

    I coached kids soccer for many years. Some kids are far better than others, because there are only a few natural athletes. If one of our scorers was too good, I would ask that kid to pass, play defense, or play keeper, which still required skill but gave others a chance to score.

    It's awesome that he was so young and wholesome that hearing the parents call him a ball hog made him cry. He was ahead of his time and didn't realize little league is about sharing and developing. This is just one of many reasons why Magic Johnson is my GOAT even though I'm a Spurs fan.

    As a good shooter if you can pass that makes the defender have to play in a position to take away passes and not block your shot which makes it easier to score. One of the greatest of all time!

    To me its always been Micheal Jordan #1 and Magic #2 then comes everyone else. Magic stopped at 32 when he got sick but had 5 rings & 9 Finals appearances. He could control games with his overall play. 2nd best player of all time in my opinion still till this day.
