The flowers and plants are static, and the birds are tame. There are no dogs that bark at night, and there are no gates at the door. The corridor is three miles long, so there is no need to wear a kerchief. Every family has a small boat, but their eyes cannot recognize the wheels.
One spring more than 200 years ago, pear blossoms bloomed all over the south of the Yangtze River. The poet Yuan Mei came to the town and sang the song "A Journey to Li Li". Although the talent's poetry did not make Lili as famous as the ancient town of Tongli, which is not far away, it left the town with rare tranquility and detachment. For thousands of years, Lili has been like a paradise, as safe as the Taipu River in the town, clean and calm.
Lili Town belongs to Wujiang District, Suzhou City, Jiangsu Province. It borders Shanghai to the east, Taihu Lake to the west, Zhejiang to the south, and Suzhou to the north. It is located in the hinterland of the Golden Triangle where Jiangsu, Zhejiang, and Shanghai meet. Lili Town is located in the Taihu Plain area and has a subtropical monsoon oceanic climate. It has four distinct seasons, moderate sunshine, abundant rainfall, and a mild and humid climate.
The town covers an area of 258 square kilometers, has 4 communities, 22 administrative villages, and a permanent population of 177,603 (2017).
In 2014, the town is expected to achieve a regional GDP of 21.7 billion yuan; industrial invoicing sales revenue of 52.5 billion yuan; public budget revenue of 1.84 billion yuan; total social investment in fixed assets of 9.1 billion yuan; new foreign investment of US$250 million. The domestic registered capital is 7.1 billion yuan; the service industry has completed investment of 3.88 billion yuan, and the service industry tax revenue is 670 million yuan; the total import and export volume has reached 1.36 billion US dollars.
From 2012 to March 2014, Lili Town was rated as "National Historical and Cultural Town", "China's Top Ten Villages and Towns for Slow Travel", and "Jiangnan Water Town Ancient Town". On October 9, 2018, Lili Town was selected into the top 100 towns with comprehensive strength in the country in 2018. In October 2019, it was rated as one of the Top 1,000 National Comprehensive Strength Towns in 2019.
