You all don’t seem to understand that these gorillas have to be managed in captivity. All these silverbacks who aren’t strong enough to win a fight against another silverback….what are they supposed to do with them? Put them all together and allow them to kill each other. Some get along well. It not all of them. You’re gonna put them in with females and youngsters…..for what?….when there is a bigger and stronger silverback to care for the females and youngsters. What are they supposed to do with all these uncastrated males?…..put them back in the wild …..really?…..they’ll never survive in the wild if they can’t make it in captivity.

For me, this is really criminal and disgusting! If the zoos don't know what to do with the males, they need to stop breeding gorillas. Even the bachelor groups are not species-appropriate. Neutering them is largely done to prevent them from being separated from their families. However, Europe now has many bachelor troops that can accommodate these adult male gorillas. It can be done! Here in the U.S., we have "bachelor" groups. Young males anywhere from ages 5-8, Before they start maturing, are put together. They grow up and mature Into silverbacks. Yes, there can and will be moments of aggression amongst them, but that's entirely natural. Some of them, based on their genetics, will eventually get the call to be a silverback leader of his own female group.
It's the European zoos who practice this barbaric castration. They either don't know how to manage a group of all males, or just don't Want or care to learn. And shame on those who continue this practice. 😠

It was very traumatic for you to learn about this apparently. The adult response is actually to formulate a solution to the issue that is being currently solved by gorilla castration. And ask yourself why they do not spay the females. Understand, the majority of your audience will balk at any break up of the families. The bulk of your audience will think it perfectly reasonable to keep females alive for 70 years and giving birth into their 50s just because we can. But, grow up and provide an answer. The fundamental problem is that hunting for these animals and breaking up their families to domesticate them was evil. There are likely no good ways to keep them in captivity. But I do agree, castrating the males because you do not want to pay for the habitats and support of the bachelor groups that the market does not want to see is pretty pathetic.

Your words give me a new perspective. I agree with using bachelor troops instead of castration, as I know of two very good bachelor troops. I didn't even know about Loango and Mosi before, or that people would castrate gorillas. I feel sad and ashamed of this behavior. We should find better ways, like adults, instead of sacrificing the rights and dignity of gorillas. This includes female gorillas as well.🫶🫶❤️🦍💪

I also agree with Bachelor groups. I have always said that in a perfect world all the Great Apes would be free and living wild with their families it that’s not possible because of humans. I would prefer them be in Zoos ( good zoos) as opposed to slaughtered or starve etc. There is no good answer but I don’t believe castration is a good solution. I love watching bachelor groups. They have their own charm. I worry about what will happen to Gentaro and Kiyomasa because there are no bachelor groups in Japan maybe they will start one or maybe they will send them abroad. There are a couple in France that are great. But I hope they will stop castrating.

@@mariapittman8970 I agree with everything you posted. There are several bachelor troops that are popular with viewers on youtube. I love watching them, they have interesting and sometimes amusing interactions with each other. I am worried about all of the Gorillas in Japan, too many are related. A bachelor troop might work for the boys. I worry they may be too old to adjust to each other. Annie is the only option for breeding with Gentaro and I don't think there is an option for Kiyomasa. The same applies to Momoka, Komomo and Riki. Sumomo at least has the possibility of Ringo or Jabali.
