Wow. Thank you so much for this Nate. I could listen to Chris and his words of wisdom all day. I've been a huge fan of his for many years. Some time back I really took on board his philosophy of counting different subdivisions out loud while playing - without really understanding how it would help, other than it being something he teaches a lot and always encourages people to do. After having a good go at it I started to get an understanding of how this powerful method of practice can help your playing immeasurably. What he describes at 26:25 to 27:15 perfectly sums it up. It's about your ear, and your mental "headroom". Hearing what you are playing as you play it. Your brain being able to process it. The Musicians Institute clinic Chris did a few years ago on UA-cam is great for this. And his DVD!
Hey Nate, thank you very much for this great interview! Very, very interesting and real insights here, love it! Chris is such a nice person and super authentic! Greetings from Germany and all the best to all drummers! 😉
Discovered chris Coleman in a video where he jokes about dennis chambers lol. He’s a crazy drummer tho and an inspirational person. I hope you can talk to dennis too, I’m so envious of how many inspirational, legendary drummers you’ve spoken to.
First guess, Chris is too cool to ask. Second guess, He’s still too cool to ask but was asked and the fact that Sonor’s Signature snare catalog is STACKED. It’s going to have to be something truly unique while being something that’s Chris’ identity. I whole heartedly agree that it should be a thing!
He really seems like a beautiful being. Absolutely love when someone is a complete monster and still a beautiful, humble person.
World class drummer and a great interview. Thanks!

WHY doesn't he have a SONOR SIGNATURE SNARE DRUM?
