Caught on camera: Billy The Kid

- A black-and-white photo bought at a junk shop in Fresno, California for two dollars could be worth millions. Turns out the subject was Billy The Kid, who is rarely seen in photos. The kid was playing croquet.
That is the kid. The fellow pointing at him is his good friend Frank McNab. All pictures of the kid show him standing with his weight on one foot. George W. Morgan probably took the picture. He took a bunch of pictures of Regulators and members of the Chisum family. He took at least one portrait of the kid. I own it. Morgan was an experienced tintypest. I've seen scores of his tintypes and other photographs, most very well made. Since some of the pictures aren't perfect I suspect he may have employed an assistant, most tintypers did, both to teach the skill and benefit from the aid of an assistant. Billy wasn't very tall and had brown, not blond hair. He had blue eyes and thick lips. He was an excellent athlete, and was said to be "as quick as a cat".

Is his chin or face partly covered?

Jesus people are dumb. It's because any movement back then would turn into a blur. Tintype and mid to late 19th century photography was not able to show movement in a clear way. So Billy was probably moving his mouth or chin at the time. It also looks like he has 2 revolvers under his sweater that are tucked into his waist.

Yeah, the Kid's face does look kind of funny doesn't it. I think he is chewing on the stem of a weed. I used to do that all of the time.

you don't see it here, but they say one of the women in the photograph is sally chisum daughter of the cattleman john chisum,who she says got to know billy the kid but didn't think much of him.but the guy in the picture could be anybody.wish they had a closeup of the people, why the photographer took it from far away beats me.gotta have proof,names of the people on the back of the photo and the date would have been something.who told the guy that bought it ,was billy the kid anyway?
That looks like William bonneys friend not Billy the kid. I can't remember his name. He was another outlaw. He looks like a twin for billy.

No way that is the Kid. It doesn't look anything like him - at all. I saw the special on this tonight and they had an expert slowly superimpose the real image of the Kid over this fake one a little percent at a time to show how it morphs into the Kid. The only problem is they didn't show the morphing. They showed the beginning of it, then mysteriously skipped to the end. Why? Because it doesn't morph realistically into the Kid. But if they can find some sucker to pay 5 million for this then more power to them.

yeup that's not The Kid. the varmint never played fieldgolf. he was more of a frizbeegolfer. me him and my cousin duanne used to go to the frizbee golfpark by tunstalls store and playgolf all day. and at night, we would play minigolf. he hated "the windmill". tunstall finally kicked The Kid out of the minigolf park for putting too much lead into the windmill. but i can definitely say this tintype is not of The Kid...

It's a big deal knowing How Billy was taken in by an immigrant who hired him without discriminating . The greedy well connected wanted the lands and had backing from corrupt politicians. Not knowing that this photograph would make someone rich and a bit famous. Well deserved.
Billy's mother was Irish and an immigrant to the USA.
I see Billy as a freedom fighter of sorts, representing an impoverished working class rising up against a corrupt and oppressive government authority. Sheriff Brady got what was coming for him!
Billy loved the Mexicans, even learned spanish and was fascinated with their culture, only reason he stayed was he was in love with a pretty Mexican gal, can't blame him.

billy the kid must've had a very boring and unfullfilling life. there was no eletricity, no soap for daily rincing, no coca cola, no ice cream, no snickers bars and NO ANYTHING we know today. jesus! how could they even exist?

The faces do match. They matched them in the documentary. Are you blind? You are telling me they had lookalikes in 1878 and all of them got together to stage a photograph?? Yeah the regulators all had body doubles, lol.
