    The fact that Liz managed to carry on with filming despite being newly widowed is truly remarkable. She made some mistakes in her personal life, especially with being labeled as a home wrecker. But she was a good human being above all and a good activist. A very good tribute from Paul. Since he too has since passed on, I hope someone will do a tribute on him too; he was a fine actor.

      I suppose it's moot to mention it now but Richard didn't think of her that way, maybe his wife did but, it wasn't what she was aiming for nor with Eddie. Liz didn't ask Eddie to buy her a house, he just did. Liz didn't ask Richard to buy her that diamond, he wanted to. He said he was gonna do it and he did. Getting involved with married men wasn't her fault in my opinion. The only one I might take her to task on that was with Richard because she was still married to Eddie. Debbie and little Carrie were hurt for a while but they got over it and were good friends before they all passed away.

    • @FranPett
      @FranPett Рік тому

      IMO, Eddie was the cad. He & Mike Todd were (supposedly) good friends. Todd dies in a plane wreck & Eddie moves in for the kill. He also claimed that Debbie was cold & too career-driven to care about him. As for Burton, well, no one's perfect.

      Today her short appearance in Jane Eyre (1943) seems to have caught a lot of attention. She basically steals the movie from Peggy Ann Garner. When Helen Burns tells Jane, " It's wrong to hate to people.", it's not just the character talking, Taylor really believed that.
      Her AIDS advocacy later on proved it to the world.

    I’ve always loved classic movies. Before there was cable TV, videos or DVDs, or movies on demand, I would get so excited when a classic film came on television, usually very late at night. I remember my mother telling me “Jane Eyre” was coming on, the one with Joan Fontaine and Orson Welles. I had read the book. When I saw a very young Elizabeth Taylor in the movie, I instantly recognized her from other movies in which she had been much older. She took my breath away, the most beautiful child I had ever seen, and she stayed beautiful her entire life. Just watched “National Velvet” yesterday.

This woman kept saying how beautiful Taylor was and I asked if she had ever seen Jane Eyre with a very young Taylor. She said oh yes, but look at these photos of her before she had done any movies...the magazine had family photos of Taylor as a baby, a toddler, a kid in school, photos I had never seen anywhere. She was STUNNING as an infant, a little girl. Remarkable beauty, absolutely lovely. When she was older and gained some weight an interviewer said something about potatoes...and in a flash, Taylor said, "I LIKE potatoes and I'll eat potatoes if I want." or words to that effect. I feel like people dont think this was anymore, and if they do, theyre not saying it out loud!! This is a lovely tribute

    I remember coming out of Bloomingdale's in Manhattan late one evening and accidentally bumping into this man in my clumsiness. As I looked up at him to say excuse me I was absolutely frozen in my tracks as I was face to face with what had to be the most incredible pair of blue eyes I have ever seen in my entire life. The man was none other than Paul Newman who was out with his wife Joanne Woodward for a evening stroll. He obviously was used to getting this kind of reaction from people as it didn't faze him that I was completely mesmerized by the color of his eyes as he asked me "Are you ok?" I felt as if I should be asking him that question but he was very low key about the whole thing and after asking me his question smiled and wished me a good night and continued on his stroll with his wife. I have never forgotten that evening and how they both just came across as two ordinary unassuming folks despite both being big stars.

But Carrie fisher (god bless her soul, another amazingly talented actress and writer) stated that she came to understand and love Taylor in a very different way to her mother. Speaks volumes of both women.

    “Cat” allowed one to believe that Hollywood had integrity and a sense of responsibility. There was a brief golden period when things like method and writers like Williams and Miller flourished. It was too good to last, of course! The money became uncomfortable with the levels of realism evoked. They need escapism to maximise consumerism and consumerism is all that matters, regardless of the damage that escapism does to the mental health of the community, or the extent to which it opens the door to promiscuity and perversion

    I have always thought she was a very talented actress. Yes, very beautiful but conflicted when it came to her love life. I think she exuded a genuine affection and empathy for others. Real life love offscreen was very different than the portrayal on film. She seemed to play a different roll and lives in each marriage. Doesn’t seem like a happy and solid marriage was in the cards for her at all. She suffered through a lot medically, she fought for her sobriety. I would think all things considered that she was overwhelmed and looking for some kind of joy. Rest In Peace. 😊
