yeah. for every big thats blocks went down, theres another that went up as they became better defenders. Hakeem (imo) is the best defender of all time, and his blocks went up after his first few years. Same story for Dwight Howard for example.
This conversation was about defensive event creation and they literally said that he would be chasing less block attempts as his defensive IQ increased. Finally something of substance said on this channel. Thank god.
Season with highest average blocks per game for various shot blockers: Brook Lopez: 15th season Hakeem: 6th season Mutombo: 5th season Kareem: 7th season Duncan: 6th season Shaq: 1st season Dwight Howard: 5th season Anthony Davis: 3rd season Garnett: 8th season David Robinson: 3rd season Manute Bol: 1st season Alonzo Mourning: 7th season This shit is knowable...
I never understood why nobody wanted tacofall, I think he would easily block that many shots per game. And wimby will average more, because he will play more minutes as he gets more accustomed to the nba
It’s true that more blocks doesn’t always equal better defense , for example Hassan Whiteside had crazy blocks per 36 numbers and there were many better defenders than him but he seems to imply more blocks means worse defense and that’s not always necessarily true. Even if it means he’s playing less disciplined leaving his feet you have to factor in the intimidation factor of people altering their shots or settling for outside jumpers because he’s blocking so many shots .
He going to average 4 blocks a game at some point....and here's the formula - He's going to get 2blks because of IQ - He's going to get 1 because of his height - He's going to get 1 more because of the shot clock a you have to shoot. In my humblest opinion
Interesting. I don't follow basketball very closely but if blocks aren't that good of a defensive metric then why is there such an emphasis placed on them
Naw I think he is going to get 4 blocks because he will get more minutes so more shot contests at the rim and talented bigs are going to try to bully him 1v1 to prove a point just to get blocked 😅
Naw he going to average 5 one year.. he can play defense on the perimeter and shooters .. he can over play and block people as he recovers into position
The problem with that is defending on the perimeter just takes so much energy to do with how quick guys get off their shots nowadays and we saw that, at the half point of the season there was a decent span of games where wemby was visibly getting tired faster and faster cus he had to do so much and didn't have enough energy at the end of games to do that for a full game
His defensive impact will go way up and players wont let him get blocks like that anymore. The amount of 3 point shots he blocked this past year for example was absurd. His opponents will adjust, but that means second guessing their shot selection and worse offense against him and his team in general
@@MinneapolisLegend28dudes is nibble enough to block someone even on the recover after closing hard.. then his help defense is wild.. he going to average 4 and one year 5
@JarellLavender89 yeah but like Marz said, Shaq was the same as a rookie and his blocks went down. Plus now that people have played against him they might not try to score on him that much. Like players did against Hakeem, Mutombo, and Tim Duncan. If he is there than they are gonna think twice abkut trying that shut

His blocks are going to go down because people are going to be too afraid to shoot😂😂
People are already afraid of him. Imagine how scared they’re gonna be when he’s even smarter and even bigger. It’s scary to think about
Yup lol they know better now
That's basically what they're saying lol
AD is a prime example
I see what mars is saying but I could still see him averaging like 4 blocks next year ;

If his blocks do go down his rebounds will go up from people throwing up bad shots trying to avoid getting blocked by him
i hope noone manages to take this as disrespect
Yes it is disrespectful to my goat. Wemby is the best player ever and you're telling me that he isn't gonna average 4 a game????

Because other than a few blocks and some easy buckets he’s essentially a statue that teams would have a field day with in PnR

The issue with that is Wemby played only 30 minutes last season.
I don’t believe he going to play any less his sophomore season
I think the blocks will increase next year, then slowly decline. He may average 5 blocks 📌
I hear what their saying and I understand the logic but I think Wemby going to name atleast 1 or 2 years of 4 blocks per game
100% going up, watch

Wemby avg 4.5 this year
Where is ticket. Him the old dude and hedo turkoglu cousin the one reason why I use to watch this channel
He only played 28 mins a game last year.

He will get 3
The problem, his blocks don't alway end possessions.
He needs to contest and rebound more to end possessions.
Small but important nit pick
True but alot of times he tries to direct it towards his team mates and get a break started but they don't react on time.
