Awesome! Thank you so much. This is exactly what I needed to know. DIY plumbing is getting so much easier with products like these, and generous people like you. Thanks again.
Brian, on a job I was on years ago with a contractor, we were saw cutting and demoing the concrete for a pipe fitter. The excavator had his drawings, but hit the same water main twice as it wasn't on the drawing. The second time, I grabbed his wheelbarrow, and flipped it over the broken pipe to spare the drawings. My boss thought that was funny, but when I asked him what he would do, he didn't have an answer. As I recall, the main was three inch plastic pipe, so there was a lot of water going all over the place.
@@ThatFixItGuy I put the wheelbarrow over the broken pipe, and the water eventually followed along the trenches we had cut. That's why they thought my idea was funny.
Are these sharkbite caps meant to be only temporary or can they be used for permanently capping a pipe? Worried that it will come loose over time as the water pressure can spike.
I'm curious, I looked up this material because I have a bathroom on the ground floor where I can't find a valve. I'm gutting the room before plumbers come to work on the drains but there is a drip leak. I think I have to turn off the water for the whole house but those pipes lead up to the shower upstairs. Wouldn't I end up cutting off the pipes that feed upstairs? I thought I could cap off the shower head and tub faucet without removing those pipes?
So I keep reading and watching videos that say never use Sharkbites behind a wall. I get that and I understand that in this video and many others, you're only capping off these lines with the Sharkbite caps temporarily. I need to know how to cap off lines PERMANENTLY...without soldering, if that's possible. (Or is soldering necessary?) Thank you!
I don't know where to ask unrelated questions, but I have one! How can I remove stripped out Allen screws? I'm spending way too much time brainstorming. 🥰
How long can those caps last? I have a water leak behind my shower wall and after busting through the wall I found I have a leak at an elbow and right now I don't have the money for plumbers. I used some leak stop 100% waterproof silicone on it but it still leaks, not as bad as it did but still leaks. So I just want to cut the supply line like you did and cap them off until I can afford a plumber. What do you think?
It's a shame no one answered your question. SOunds like you had a good idea. How were you able to resolve your problem - did you cap off your supply lines with Sharkbites?
In my house the 2 pipes on the side each have kind of a y joint with another copper pipe that comes up vertically about 10 inches or so and is open at the top like it's a vent or something. One of them is dripping water now. What would be the purpose of this? Someone is telling me just to put one of these caps on there to stop the leaking. But there must be a reason it's built like that?
They make mega press fittings. They are pretty spendy not to mention the cost of tool rental. Easy just to remove galvanized pipe from closest fitting and plug it.
By code it can. I would want it to be accessible if it was my house. the people that did my 1/2 bath put the whole thing together with sharkbite fittings. I will show it all sometime.
If I had to, I could leave that cap on forever? I have a mystery 1/2 copper pipe under the kitchen sink in the house we bought. The last owner terminated it with a water supply valve like the kind that allows water to your faucet or toilet…what????
Very handy ! Sure beats trying to sweat a copper cap in place and awesome that they can be used more then one time! Thank you Tom Selleck :-)
So true Richard. Worked for me for a long time. LOL. This stache is starting to feel unruly.

Your welcome! God asks everyone to share their talents. So grateful for UA-cam. Has helped me so many times as well
🤯 those pipe cutters are awesome
The burned up studs and beautiful solder job looks like my work. LOL
LOL. I did not even mention those bad boys. There were burn marks everywhere.
Quick and handy caps , in case of emergency while in the middle of fixing some leak, and you need water on.
Yep so true. Thank you for watching.
Thanks for the tips Brian! Sweet cutting tool and I have copper pipes! Good to know about the caps!
Sharkbites are so great this way. Thank you for watching.
Hey Brian thanks for the great information that ratchet tubing cutter is one sweet tool 👍
It is a pretty sweet tool Britt! I have loved using it.
Very helpful. Thanks!

Thanks so much for this video. I'm about to cap off an old water softener with 1/2" lines, and like this alternative to sweating on some copper caps.
Your welcome. So glad this could help you out.

Oh man! That sounds like mess. Putting something over the drawings sounds like a good idea to me as well. Those big dog type jobs can suck at times!

Awesome tips brother. It’s cool that they are reusable
Thank you Steve. The reusable feature is pretty sweet.
Wow WHAT AN AWESOME TOOL!!!,GOD BLESS
Literally saved my 250 bucks calling a plumber! Ty!!!

I have the same question. What did you end up doing?
bhahhaha....I love the Stache !
I know! It is getting unruly!
I agree, it is the thing of stories.
Jason
Awesome... thank you.
Your so welcome. I hope we can help again.

This vid saved my existence
Sweet.

You could try a reverse drill bit set and easy out set. And spray that screw with some penetrating oil like PB Blaster.
@@ThatFixItGuy lol. Ironically, I have ONE piece of a set, and it's too small for the bolts I'm working with. (Futon)🤣
@@sharigirardeau3367 depending on how exposed they are you can cut a slot in them with a dremel and use a flathead screwdriver maybe.

Anything comparable for galvanized steel?

@@ThatFixItGuy Thanks!
If you turn the water back on to use elsewhere will the cap burst out?
wonder if shark bit works on a cut piece of galvanized shower pipe?
Can the shark byte be a permanent cap?
By code it can. I would want it to be accessible if it was my house. the people that did my 1/2 bath put the whole thing together with sharkbite fittings. I will show it all sometime.
Did you need a permit for this ?
They did for their job, not for me temp capping their lines.
Is this a permanent solution if not what is it? Great video.
It could be, but I do it as temporary for remodel or repair.
@@ThatFixItGuy what’s the cap’s name?
Can you use a shark bite cap as a permanent solution?
You could, but I’m just not a fan unless absolutely necessary or the pipe getting capped will always be exposed.
@@ThatFixItGuy thank you!
What else can you use to get it off?
Adjustable crescent wrench
Try cleaning up, deburr in/out the copper pipe BEFORE you install the SharkBite, I bet you wouldn't have such a hard time .

Could have been for the dishwasher or maybe they had an insta hot at some point. You could totally leave a sharkbite cap on. A lot of people do.
