@@badmotorfinger8335 That's funny... I guess they're playing over the recording. The drums really sound live in this video. And at the end, the vocals sound duplicated.

I think Japan's problem was timing. They came with Glam too late, and with New Romantic/Electronic too early.

Agree. Sylvian even wore tight trousers sometimes in 1978! The baggy clothes which followed were such a waste of a great pair of legs.
And as '82 approached, he started looking more and more like my eccentric great aunt. 😲

Just an incredible band. I recall CFNY playing the hell out of them when they first came around. And Yeah, he sure did reference a lot of Bowie lyrics throughout his career. I guess he thought of it as homage. Nonetheless the first two albums were right up there with the best of the scene. Which is to say they were as good as Television and nothing less.

    Here are the lyrics:
    With the sidewalks trading love
    As subway lights grow brighter
    We're just another hype
    But the pressure's getting harder
(Get up, get up, get up take it much higher)
    All lover's etiquette
    Make love on first impression
And adolescent sex with juvenile intentions
(Get up, get up, get up take it much higher)
Whatever gets you through the night
    Just keep on dancing
Whatever gets you through the night
    Just keep on dancing babe
Well the lady buys a thrill
    Excitement in succession
    But a heartache won't partake
    In articulate obsession
    Well pretty things at rest
    No courtesy surprising
    For love is heaven blessed
    All catastrophes denying
(get up, get up, get up take it much higher)
Whatever gets you through the night
    Just keep on dancing
Whatever gets you through the night
    Just keep on dancing babe
Well you're out on the street
    With your lover's infections
    Count impossibilities by limination
    And your body still damp
    From your one-room apartment
    And your heartache reminds me
    Love's ?? any doubt
    You submerge again, emerge again
    Just get out the strain

hugobear1 Well it might be that outside mainly Japan (the country) it wasn't working as well as can be for them. Plus they were very young, their tastes were changing and so was the musical landscape. They were massive in the 80's and split at their peak of popularity so could've got even bigger maybe, but yes it looks like Hanoi Rocks were inspired by is look of theirs
