Love the design. I reallly wanted to see it in the garden. It is interesting at 52 that I can remember all the popularity of formal gardens discussed by the ladies in my mom's garden club in the 80s... So not the thing talked about in such a long time, but I love being old enough to have enjoyed all the delights of the 80s! Thanks. Take care.
Hi Fran. Great to hear from you and your memories of formal garden chats with your Moms gardening club. I do love a formal garden but they are less and less in favour! Maybe I can change that! Happy gardening! Lee 🥷🌿🤘
Thinking about adding a formal garden on low land my property. It floods every Spring but raising the ground level with field rock and creating raised bed within not disturbing the flow of water. Building gabion fencing around the garden to mimic your hedging or brick walls. Finishing with gravel for walk ways. Ideas that flow through my mind to take advantage of gardening.
Really pretty! Would look so sweet with some tiny white flowers somewhere.
You could use white Geraniums. The key to a knot garden is absolutely symmetry. So you’d need to repeat the patterns across the garden. Happy gardening! Lee 🥷🌿
I started a "master garden design plan" a few years back and have used it as my reference plan ever since. It is amazing the clarity and planning benefits to have it all on paper. The visuals really help. Thank you for your design method . . . always great to see a methodical approach.
I do love a good plan. It helps you stop guessing and making expensive errors. I far prefer to make mistakes on paper and have time to mull over important design decisions! A stitch in time saves nine! Happy gardening. Lee 🥷🌿
Once again I have learnt something new, I have never heard of the term formal knot garden but it does make sense. I do like them, very different from your normal designs but very very clever. Mum 😍
Thanks Mum. I must admit I’m dying to start a kitchen garden at home. Really relaxing and great to eat your own stuff! Xx 🥰🥷🌿❤️
I love your videos and have been watching them for some years now in the US. I love formal gardens, keep up the great work and happy spring.
Thanks Kena. Great to hear from an old time Garden Ninja fan! There’s more to come especially as spring is on the way! Happy gardening. Lee 🥷🌿
@@Gardenninja Looking forward to seeing them.
I would LOVE to create a room in my garden with a very similar style.
What’s stopping you?! 😜🥷🌿 Happy Knotting! Lee
Loved this, thanks! Will you be implementing the design? If so, I hope we get to see it!
Fingers crossed. I’ve been so busy with designs I’m hoping I get time to see them all realised and planted!!! Lovely to share the plans though with the world! Happy gardening. Lee 🥷🌿
I was wondering the same!
Got quite a few in the pipeline. Fingers crossed with covid and time they can be built and then I can plant them!!! Plenty of pipeline though! Happy gardening. Lee 🥷🌿
Hi lee, It is good to see you back behind the watercolour brush😁 Can't wait until the weather turns and you can hopefully produce some outdoors videos again. Oh yes, did you polish off all the gooseberry jam? 👍 Cheers, Terry.
Hi Terry! Good to hear from you. The gooseberry jam is no more. My covid appetite finished it off!! Glad you’re enjoying the content. Have a great weekend. Lee 🥷🌿
@@Gardenninja Good for you lee😁 You also have a great weekend, hopefully it will be gardening weather😎 Best wishes, Terry.
I want a street corner garden design, please ! ! !
Street corner eh?! Sounds very steamy windows. 😂☺️ I’ll see if one presents then I’ll defo design one! Happy gardening. Lee 🥷🌿
@@Gardenninja thanks a lot for reply. I want to send the corner pictures to you. May I know your email?

Seeing this I assume that the box tree moth has not hit the UK jet, because box would be the best plant for a knot garden. I got rid of all my over 60 years old box (hedges and topiary) about 10 years ago. back then my garden was not only crowded by plants, children where playing there as well.Hence I did not want to spray BT erver so often. Every time I watch videos from UK or USA where this damn moth is unknown I am sad that I lost so much of my garden structure. I´m aware of the replacement plants, they are not comparable to box. BTW, I´m not a control freak, I only love knot gardens.
Hi Stamping Hippo. Box tree moth is in the UK. It does ravage box when it breaks out. There’s not much you can do. Good hygiene. Air flow. Clipping with clean tools helps keep box as healthy as possible and then keeping an eye out. There are some good Hebes now but box is quintessential. Each garden style and planting palette has its foes. It’s just about balance isn’t it. So sad to hear of all your 60 year old buxus going! Lee 🥷🌿
What do you plan to use then Lee, I think box is still an option if you can spray regularly.
I've seen customers use Xen-Tari with works great against box caterpillar.
I'm not a big fan of the Ilex crenata with seens to be the go too
Hi Sean. I’ve used Hebe ‘Green Gem’ for a more rounded formal hedge before. Doesn’t clip as tight but can be nice in a more rounded hedge for knot gardens. Like you say Ilex crenata is a good option some people don’t like it. I think it’s a good alternative. The topiary clipped from it is really good too! Thanks for sharing your tips! Happy gardening. Lee
Hi Lee. Any advice on dealing with moss? I watched your scarifying video but just want to know if I should use any chemicals to deal with moss? :-)
Hi Andrew. You can use iron sulphate which kills moss allowing for easier removal. However I’ve found the scarifier removes it easily. Remember, miss doesn’t root like other plants so it’s easy to scrape off. Hope that helps. Lee 🥷🌿
@@Gardenninja Many thanks for your advice Lee and good to know that moss doesn't root the same. I think I will go down the scarifying route. Have a good day :-)
