This is such a fun episode🎉 I just finished watching it earlier today. That barbershop bit is such a fun scene and the music definitely makes it

Thanks! My next full video will further expound on this great musical nugget, hopefully in the next couple of weeks.

Just finished watching the Deep Space 9 episode where the main characters go back in time to the Tribbles episode. Good opportunity to compare the music of TOS with later series and how critical to the original show the music was.

Great DS9 episode! And they also borrowed the closing scene from "Mirror, Mirror" as Sisco is on the bridge and hands a report to Kirk to sign, telling him how honored he was to serve, etc. Kirk was talking to the non-mirror Marlena, but they edited Sisco into her shots. Pretty clever!

I thought that DS9 episode showed how important the music was to she show. It really needed the TOS music.

The music is the string that brings all the pearls together.

The music makes the bartender's point for him.
I also like the "meow-meow' sound that bedevils Kirk.
Found some in the dealer's room at a Trek convention, I jokingly asked the vendor if they were good eating and she snatched it away from me like it was her pet.

Always love the info you give us on these cues. Looking forward to when you cover the cue in Wink of an Eye when Kirk drinks his contaminated coffee. My friend and I always referred to it as the 'Going Crazy' music.

Ha! Love it. I'll look at it, but I'll tell you - that would have been a "tracked" cue from another episode. There was no new music written for that one! When I get a chance I'll track it down for you.

David. I have thoroughly enjoyed all of your content regarding the music of Star Trek. I just wanted you to know that whenever the topic arises (or I start it) regarding the scores of TOS episodes, I always mention that members of the FB group I belong to seek out and watch all your "Scoring Star Trek" vids on UA-cam. Thanks. (I was recently lucky to find a reasonably priced offer of the Star Trek Soundtrack Collection Season 1, 2, & 3 and I eagerly await that mail delivery as I type this)

Great transcription. You use the same software for these as I do for my songs, and it's been long apparent that some instruments come out better on these transcription than others, and this is one your best so far!
I must admit that I'm particularly looking forward to what you have to say on both of Jerry Fielding's episodes - I've found it hard in the past to identify any common musical fingerprints between the two. Any other composer with more than one episode, I can recognise their fingerprints from one episode to the next, especially Fred Steiner and Gerald Fried, but Fielding is a lot tougher. Maybe because the two episodes are so completely different.

Thanks Liam. I've got the barroom brawl cue ("Big Fite") done as well, but saving it for the "big" video. And there's a lot of this in that!
Fielding seems to favor winds, brass and percussion - not a lot in terms of strings. Working on "Tribbles" I can start to hear kinship with "Spectre..", as you say "musical fingerprints", but haven't yet nailed them down to specific cues. I'll make mention of any similarities when I get to "Spectre".

@@davidpage9355I'm guessing it takes a lot of listens. Maybe I should watch the two episodes back-to-back. Won't be for a while yet though as I'm currently reading the James Blish adaptions of the series for the first time in about 25yrs!
It's occurred to me that both of Fielding's episodes are very atypical for Star Trek - a comedy and a western, two genres that don't have that much crossover with each other either (the obvious exception being Back To The Future III). And the atypical episodes tend to have scores that are hard to reuse in other episodes - as they're usually made in the middle of the season when they've already got all the "regular" music that they'll need and just want something a bit out of the ordinary.

Be fantastic if you could take a look at The Wild Wild West too. That also has some beautiful music.

Terrific show! Loved Dave Grusin's theme, but just couldn't at the moment put my finger on any "incidental" music. I know it was great. Thanks for the comment!
