    I just harvested a shitload of macadamias, at least 500, if not more, now I got a shitload of nuts to crack, dry, crack again and roast, but I’m saving a shitload of money and thanks for the tutorial.

      Where do you live? I'm curious where people are growing these and how long does it take

      We don’t dehydrate. (One tree) If you leave them out for a week or two, the husk opens wide and splits off easily. Then let them dry for a few weeks and no need to dehydrate. I throw them on the hard floor if they are not loose in the shell and that does the trick. Then crack with a ratcheting pvc cutter. I only get halves this way but it doesn’t hurt my hands and nothing goes flying.

    Whan temperature do you run the dehydrator at?

    • @withasodaontheside1
      @withasodaontheside1  4 роки тому +1

      tobiaS booN The dehydrator we used is not adjustable, but I believe it’s preset to 130 °F or 54 °C.

      @@withasodaontheside1 Thanks for the fast reply, how long do they need in the dehydrator?

    • @withasodaontheside1
      @withasodaontheside1  4 роки тому

      tobiaS booN About 2 or 3 days. We found doing this the nuts come out of the shell easier.

    I have madamia tree from seed it is obligatory to be grafted to give nuts ???

    • @withasodaontheside1
      @withasodaontheside1  4 роки тому

      I don’t think so. Most trees you will find at the box stores or nurseries are grafted. They choose a strong root stock for the bottom and a good nut producer for the top.
      Your plant should be a product of one or two good nut producers, I would guess you should get nuts... 5 to 6 years after planting.

  • @81crispy
    @81crispy 4 роки тому +1

    Why not take them off the tree?

    • @withasodaontheside1
      @withasodaontheside1  4 роки тому +2

      81crispy It’s easier for us. The nuts may not be fully developed if they are picked directly from tree; however, if they fall to the ground we assume that they are done.
