- A quick chat about where I am with my Epilepsy and general health right now. A discovery of Catamenial Epilepsy, all based around the menstrual cycle. Trialling the contraceptive pill to help manage my periods and seizures. Looking to research and learning how I can improve my health this year.
I just found your channel. I've been suffering from seziures since July 16, 2023. I figured out it is related to my period. I no longer get the usual pms symptoms like sore breast, or cramps or cravings. I get seizures, my speech gets slow i'm super tired and just unable to function. My neurologist hasn't diagnosed me with epilepsy or non epilepsy until I get an EEG done on my menstrual cycle. Its just hard to time it since my cycle is so unpredictable. Since i turned 35 everything went to hell. It's also hard theres not much about catamenial seziures on the internet or what they look like.
I get this and even someone snappping at me can give me a collapse or an after-seizure feeling in my eyes and nose. A mirage feeling i can't explain. I get headaches, slight temp, swollen gland feeling and the after- seizure feeling from social situations. Amatriptylene given to calm anxiety (and severe tri nerve pain which wasn't really believed) makes me have seizures even worse. I have really heavy period where i soak giant wee pad through fast. Luckily someone gives me the pads or id be in hospital where i should be. Doctor determined not to let me see a specialist because im over 50. Bled for 6 weeks given pills to stop it. Am in uk.
Seems like it's chronic fatigue rather than seizures. I know having a seizure can make one tired but, are you tired because you are having seizures all the time? And are your seizures triggered by hormonal changes?
I think I've been having seizures at the end of my periods because I have Auras for like 3-4 days. It's a scary feeling. I can't go on contraceptives because it reduces the effects of my anti-seizure meds. Also Contraceptives don't block hormones so your body is still being affected by hormones 🤔
