Thank you for this video. And for all of your videos on simplicity felting machine. They gave me confidence to try it out, I bought a used one and broke a bunch of needles already now need to find the proper screws somewhere and then follow your instructions... But at least there is a clear path laid out.
Oh please help me! Your video is perfect and I can now with confidence try and replace the broken needles but.... and it's a big but.... I bought this style machine second hand from a marketplace ad. I went to the person's home and she kindly showed me how to use it so for £50 I thought it was a superb buy. Problem arose when I tried the allen keys which were both the same size. I figured I'd just use it as it is until I get hold of an allen key that fits. So far I've broken three needles :( This machine I understand is now discontinued...probably due to the customer not managing to replacement the needles correctly. So, my dilemma is wanting to purchase replacements needles to fix the problem. I would be very grateful for any advice you may have please. Thank you in anticipation :)
The needles do break from time to time. When I load the needles, I ensure that they are not too long, are the right weight for the felting. And, I turn the handwheel manually to be sure that the needles go into the holes cleanly -- this is the biggest challenge because of the plastic guard having a bit of flexibility but the metal holes in the base do not.
@@jamesrogers991 Thank you for your speedy response, James. I'm not sure which size needles are best - I'm just practicing with bits of felt, fibres, knitting wool and will try fabric scraps. I figure I'd need heavier weight needles for the scraps or denser fabrics as they have more resistance to the needle...?
@@sleveridge2959 I ordered a few sizes and then trial and error to find the best fit for the project.
Where do you purchase the little screws which hold the individual needles in place as I've lost 2. Are they the same sizeas other brands of embellishing machines?
Many thanks.
I have purchased a box of grub screws (they are likely M2 or M1 so very small) and then trial and error to find the right ones.
Thank you for this helpful video. I bought a used machine without a user manual. Do you have any ideas on where I can purchase one? Thanks!
Sadly I have no idea where to get the manual from.
I really appreciate the information. I have this felting machine and am anxious to use it but am not able to find replacement needles anywhere. No support either. Any chance anyone has leads??
Use hand needles and cut the top shank to fit.
@@jamesrogers991 Thank you! I really appreciate your style of explanation and education in this video too. Really clear and easy to understand. Take care~
Where do you purchase the replacement needles?
I found that hand needle felting needles can be purchased cheaply and cut to the correct length with a pair of wire snips. This was easier, I could not find other sources.
@@jamesrogers991 Thank you. I just purchased a used machine and had not researched whether or not needles were available...I will definitely have to learn how to cut and insert needles in the fashion you showed. Glad you made this video
@@YooperGranny Oh hello Joan... I've just read your post and ditto, I too bought a used machine... Did you manage to find and cut down needles and if so, I would so very much appreciate your expertise of a link, needle size etc., and how you managed it! Fingers crossed you are still on here as I've just realised your post is a year ago!
@@sleveridge2959 I have to admit my life got in the way of trying this felting machine out. I just cleared my studio space and I am looking forward to experimenting with the machine. It sure seems everyone has this issue and I am grateful that this video exists to help me visualize needle replacement.
I need replacement screws to keep needles in place xx
Do you have one screw remaining? If you have calipers, you can identify the size and then order grub screws. I think that they are metric so should be easy to find. Let me know if that helps you.
Will have to buy calipers and have a look thank you
Do you absolutely need the plastic foot? It seems like a liability more than anything.
I agree that it can be a liability. It can sometimes help to line up the holes with the metal plate. I think that it is there mostly to protect fingers.
