In my judgment Jay Maisel is one of the greatest to ever take photographs. His work has and always will inspire me, and I’m sure, countless others for generations to come. Great video.

Many years ago, 1977 to be exact, I took a workshop with Jay at the Mendocino Art Center in northern California. I was 19 at the time. He saw that I had a seriousness about becoming a professional photographer and said "If you really want to pursue photography as a career you should move to New York City, that is where it is all happening." A year later I did just that. And my career as a professional photographer began after working one year as an assistant for a successful fashion photographer. I credit and thank Jay for giving me the push to move to NYC.
Also, when I first arrived in NYC, I called Jay and he was so kind to invite me over to his studio/home and former bank building in the Bowery. Beyond being a phenomenal photographer, he is a great guy and truly cares about assisting future generations of photographers.
