Our group of Moldavian students traveled to Tartu by tourist bus from Tallinn during winter vacations in February 1974. I will never forget an old guide/professor Leesment so friendly, showing us proudly the famous University of Tartu. And the lunch somewhere - a Swedish table - was delicious ! Now I like also Saku beer !Unforgettable life lasting memories/trip to Estonia ! And I read the book -"Bye, yellow cat" by Mati Unt.Warm Greetings from Kishinău/Moldavia!
I am so happy to hear that you have such good memories of Tartu! I really love my home town and I hope you will get to visit again some day. I am sure a lot has changed in the last years but I am sure you would still like it since Tartu still has a beautiful atmosphere 😁👍. Sending my best wishes!
Yes, lovely city Tartu, and great to walk around, and to see the sights, and have been there over four years now, as my partner is Estonian, and she has family in Tartu, and Elva, and in Tallinn as well,i love the city, the walking, plus the parks, river, the shops, and using the buses, and the Tartu bus card.
Hahh Yea, free public transport is quite common in here. And for sure Tartu is one of my favorite towns as well . Where are you from yourself? Is Tartu a big town for you or are you used to city's?
@@WildVikingTravels ,thanks for your reply to me. i am from the UK, and my partner is estonian, she has family in tartu, which , when i go over with her we visit them a few times a year.
@@derekwhyard73 cool. I hope you get to visit Estonia mostly in the summertime. winters in here compared to the UK can get quite rough :). anyways, I hope ill get to visit your home country soon enough as well. currently building a van into a home on wheels to see the whole Europe in one go.
@@WildVikingTravels HI, yes i have been there in both summer, and in the winter time over the past four years, including february/march this year when it snowed heavily for a few days in Tallinn, Tartu, and Elva, and even got to see lumps of ice floating down the river in Tartu last year february/march 2019, and got videos too, along with photos, and had my thermal underwear on, as daytime temp was as low as -5, and in some places was even -12 with the wind, and at nighttime down to -20, plus seeing lakes frozen over, and some people riding snow mobiles too.
hi, I'm from Latvia but I currently live in England. I'm actually going to Latvia next year and I might have to go visit Tartu because this really sold it to me and I'm a big fan of Estonia, Lithuania and Latvia. I'm defiantly going to check these places out when I go!
What an amazingly clean hometown Bro! I was brought up in Hong Kong way back when 😂, it certainly had a different vibe to it and I remember the smog and litter everywhere! Tartu is now on the bucket list 😊. Thanks for sharing.
Awesome comment 😁. But for sure, I love the place and if you have the chance, whole Estonia is quite cool. 50% is covered with Forest and it is still one place in Europe where wolves and bears have lived as long as people have. And in late summer those forest are full of berries and mushrooms, a lot of us still try to stay in contact with our past by just going to the woods picking berries or just relaxing. Like a meditation to us 😁
@@WildVikingTravels totally my kind of thing..... forest bathing is a meditation all in it's own dudes... and do love a bit of foraging especially in Autumn when loads of shrooms come out for harvest.
Thank you so much! That means a lot! When I made this video when my movie making skills were not too good yet and I filmed the whole thing with a phone, but I am from tartu and I love the place, so it is easy for me to share it's beauty!
Hey. I am currently in Turkey😊👌, traveling for the next 3 months, so can't make any videos, but being a vegetarian in Estonia is easy. Every restaurant has some vegetarian/vegan meals. Pluss there is some places only dedicated for vegetarians. When it comes to halal, it might be a bit harder to find since 90% of Estonians are not religious, but I think there is one or 2 places in Tartu that prepare halal food, you just have to Google it. In Estonia everything is online so you will find all the info you need when googeling the place 👍😉
thank you for this very interesting video. ive only been to tallinn a couple times, i hope to visit Tartu on my next trip. I am curious, that side bag that you are wearing that is attached to your waist and leg, where did you buy that? what is the brand?
Heyhey. I hope you get to see tartu as well. About the bag. It does not have a brand. I bought in from a small crafter in a music festival in California. But I am sure you can find something similar if you Google leather waist bag. I saw similar thing in leather shops in Guatemala as well.

Thanks! Hahh, Yea Tartu has a lot of small and hidden places that don't yet know how to market themselves for bigger tourist markets, so there is always more to discover and enjoy. And I really appreciate the feedback, I'll take this in count on the next video for sure.
