- First episode in a new periodic series where you get a first person look at someone writing (or to be exact: printing) a letter to their friend back home. Who's writing the letter? And who is this friend? Could it be you?...
Side note: I will fix the angle at which I hold the pen in future episodes so that you can see more of it as it write, and less of my hand. For now, I hope it isn't too bothersome.
And FYI: The "Rift World" website is still planned where folks will get to contribute their own stories to the universe. It is just slow going as it is in the preconception stages. We'll get there!

What is ASMR?
ASMR stands for Autonomous Sensory Meridian Response. It's a non-scientific word that an everyday person came up with to describe the feeling characterized as a pleasurable tingling sensation felt in the head, scalp, back and other regions of the body in response to visual, auditory, tactile, olfactory, and/or cognitive stimuli, such as crinkling bags, hand movements, whispering, personal attention or watching someone perform a task. It's like goosebumps but much more pleasant and without the uncomfortable chills.
ASMR videos are meant to intentionally induce this sensation in the viewer, often referred to as "tingles", but the videos also serve to provide a relaxing, calming and soothing experience for the viewer. Many people who do not experience ASMR still enjoy the videos for their calming and sleepy effect.

I hope this letter finds you doing splentastically well! I do apologize for writing you so late, but it is only until now that I have been able to set aside all distractions and dedicate all my time sitting down and finally writing you a proper letter!
So, where should I begin? Should I begin at the beginning? or should I begin at the end? I do not think I start at the end simply because I have merely begun this story! Ha! I suppose I could begin with the middle, but then which direction would I go?
So let me stick to tradition and begin this first letter of many to follow with a simple beginning.
Well, as you now know, based on the return address on the envelope accompanying this letter, I am now a proud resident of arkham, Massachusetts! Hurrah! Should I say proud? Is it too early in my residence to reach such a conclusion? But a positive outlook on such new beginnings is the best way to start, wouldn't you agree? I knew you would! the move was a great success and much less trouble than I thought it would be! Of course, I do own A modest amount of possessions. However, while the ordeal was not physically demanding, it sure did a number on my anxiety!Which I will tell you further on in this letter.
I have been here now for, how long has it been since I left? Yes, two and a half months. I am finally just starting to feel settled in. I am in a nice little apartment on the seconds floor. The living room faces the street and I get plenty of sunlight during the day which is exactly what my psyche needs. It has a quaint kitchen and all the amenities one could ask for at the rental price. However, the building appears to have been built in the 19'th century! As its bones rattle and creak at the slightest amount of breeze! Sometimes I think I can hear mice in the walls! Ha! But the neighbors have all been nice so far, just like many of the locals that I have crossed paths with.
This place is not at all like our home town, I can tell you that! It is very reminiscent of an old mining town, Many of the people here are poor, and that truly breaks my heart. There are some homes that are well maintained and are most likely owned by affluent folk who probably own the local businesses. But there are many more houses with their gambrel rooftops which are unkempt and even abandoned. There are not a lot of jobs available or companies to work for, though I have noticed that they are trying to rebuild some sections of town, so there is still hope. Fortunately, I was able to land a job at one of the local law firms. It is clerical work, but it pays well enough so that I can pay the rent, bills, and keep food in the fridge while I attend miskatonic University, which as you know is the main reason fro my moving here.
I am still getting my bearings in regards to becoming more accumulated with my surroundings. Trying to remember street names, the different shops and parks in the area, and what not. Everything is in walking distance, although it is quite a hilly region, so one does get quite the work out! My legs are actually aching as I write this! There are quite a lot of churches here too, more so than back home. Though I no longer practice and even once abhorred the catholic church during my youth, it is not so much of a point of contention the older i get. At least it is quiet on sunday mornings , and I confess, no pun intended, that I do rather like the ringing of the church bells. there is a cemetary right down the end of my street, so that in the even that anything were to happen to me, they wouldn't have very far to travel in order to dispose of my corpse! Ha! The next letter that I write you I shall go into more detail about some of the people that I have met, a few interesting places I have been, and some of the events that have taken place around town.
I will tell you now, however, that there is something not quit right about this town. I cannot for the life of me put my finger on it. There is a strange sense of foreboding in the air at times. Like a storm that is approaching but you cannot tell in which direction because the buildings and trees block your view of the horizon, and eventually the storm passes, anyway. I do not like going for walks at night very often, and I do not think I am the only one, because there are not too many people about on the streets past 10 PM. There does not seem to be a lot of crime, or more so than anywhere else I suppose. I do hear the occasional siren of the passing police care, ambulance, firetruck, but not enough to cause concern.
Maybe it is just the downtrodden areas of town that make it seem so unsettling. I am sure it is nothing. I highly doubt this town has some kind of horrid past like amityville or salem! It is Arkham after all! Home to the acclaimed miskatonic University! But I still cannot shake the feeling that there is something going on around me that I am just not yet privy to. Perhaps a secret that the lords will not disclose to outsiders and those that they do not trust.hell I am sure it is just my acute paranoia that is playing tricks on me!
lastly, being the highly sensitive creature that you and I are, theses new surroundings sure have been doing a number on my anxiety! There is so much to take in, and it all has been very overwhelming to my senses. And if course I am still struggling with my depression to boot! I still have those days where I do not even want to get out of bed. But I feel that the move o this town in pursuit of my degree, and ultimately, my happiness is just what the doctor ordered! And speaking of doctors, apparently there is a state of the art facility at the outskirts of town called arkham sanitarium. Despite the name, it seems to be a place where everyday folks can go to have there minor, or major mental health issues treated. At least, thats is how it's told on the advertisement I saw Walking past the bus stop the other day. If my anxiety and depression do not get any better, then I think I may just have to look into it. Perhaps this weekend I'll take a bus trip over there. I am rather fond of historic places and their grand architecture!
Well my friend, I think that is all for now. I will try to write again sooner. And again, I do apologize for taking so long to write you! you know, you could consider joining me up here! I know you could use a change of scenery yourself as well as a new beginning. maybe give it a thought? It might be good for you! you could always make a trip up and stay over for the weekend. I would be more than happy to have you stay a couple of nights with me! There is a bedroom waiting for you to inhabit it!

Only struck me now that left handed people can't actually see what they're writing as they write it.
You memorize what you write before hand atleast a few words, and then write it.
Must make having neat handwriting a bit of an ordeal
I check every line I write, and I plan out every line I write, it's probably why I like typing everything instead

My guess is it’s Corvus writing this letter since he always greets someone by saying “Hello my friend.” Granted, I think Dave says the same thing sometimes, but that’s clearly not his hand holding the pen. Unless he got new hands that we don’t know about....
