  • Learn more about “BMW Wireless Charging”, the technology that allows energy transfer to take place without the use of cables. Wireless charging for the high-voltage battery will be made available as an option for the BMW 530e iPerformance from 2018. The system consists of a base pad with integrated primary coil - which can be installed in a garage, for example, but also outdoors - and a secondary coil integrated in the underside of the vehicle. An alternating magnetic field is generated between the two coils, through which electricity is transmitted without cables or contacts at a charge rate of up to 3.2 kW. This form of power supply to the high-voltage battery is extremely convenient for customers and involves a charging time of around three-and-a-half hours.

    • @erikdias9052
      @erikdias9052 3 роки тому

      wouldn't the magnetic field be to big? because you can't mantain a single coil source in the highway for too long, and if it isn't an only strip magnetic field and it is a variating magnetic field, it would oscilate to much just to start again. you would have to find a way to make every single coil become a system incorporating one another

    I don't get it, whats the Problem to plug in the car??
    It only takes a few sec and you have better charging efficiency ...
    But some People are are even for that to lazy. :D

      I believe this is just meant as a test prior to "charging lines" on a highway, for example. Lets that you run out of battery power in the middle of nowhere, you keep charging while driving towards your destination. Efficiency wise, this is not great... Yet.

      That's because when you live up North, charging your car every day in -30 degrees celsius will make you fingers freeze.

      @av7447 7 років тому +1

      I just googled it for the sake of it... BMW claims 50 km on a full charge which means in real world 20-25, then it switches to the gas engine .... guess we need to wait another 5 years or so or just buy a tesla :)))

    • @sengin1534
