Today we will fix error Windows Defender Windows Update Error 0x80070643, first make sure you uninstall any 3rd Party Anti viruses or Anti malware programs.
So what causes this windows defender kb2267602 0x80070643 error? There many reasons why you may encounter error 0x800070643. Here are some of the main reasons why it happens
Failed to install latest Windows updates
Damaged or corrupt operating system files.
Corrupt or Damaged .Net Framework.
Installed third-party antivirus/malware software.
Corrupt system registry or Errors in Registry.
Virus/Malware infection.
Corrupt or disabled Microsoft Source Engine Ose.exe

1) Click on the Start menu.
Type “cmd“. Right click on Command Prompt and select Run as administrator.
In Command Prompt, type “sfc /scannow” and press Enter.
DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth

Reset Windows Updates Components
3) Click on the Start menu.
Type “cmd“. Right click on Command Prompt and select Run as administrator.
In Command Prompt, type

net stop cryptSvc
net stop bits
net stop msiserver
ren C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution SoftwareDistribution.old
ren C:\Windows\System32\catroot2 Catroot2.old
net start wuauserv
net start cryptSvc
net start bits

Use Windows Defender Command Line Tool to Update the Signatures
Click on the Start menu.
Type “cmd“. Right click on Command Prompt and select Run as administrator.
In Command Prompt, type:
“%PROGRAMFILES%\Windows Defender\MPCMDRUN.exe” -RemoveDefinitions -All
“%PROGRAMFILES%\Windows Defender\MPCMDRUN.exe” -SignatureUpdate
"%ProgramFiles%\Windows Defender\MPCMDRUN.exe" -SignatureUpdate -MMPC

I tried sfc /scannow, it says it found corrupt files but was unable to fix. What should I do?

I just can't believe that such an advanced operating system like Windows 10 has so many bugs and glitches. Why is Windows 10 so buggy?
I swear, it's the buggiest OS I've had. Never did I have so many problems with Windows 7 :(

This is why I am still using windows 7. I am waiting for MS to actually fix bugs instead of adding new features to windows 10 and ignoring reliability. They are on the wrong path. I am a big fan of Britec and glad he is here to help windows 10 users. Thumbs up as always.

I appreciate you making this video and all, but I am really frustrated that people just give random things to do instead of telling you what this error message ACTUALLY MEANS. I would have so much better direction in solving this problem if I knew what this actually meant.
What ever the error just go to the installed updates there.. U can see the failed update just click it goes to the microsoft page ..follow the instructions there or install it manually.
I tried every step but couldn't delete the files in catroot2 even tho I did everything correct. Can anybody help here?

Get “Access Denied” when trying to rename. Any fix? Am using admin and all other steps worked

found the problem ,.... my updates were set to delay for 365 days
set both back to 0 and bam there we went ,.... so your fix was working !!!!!!

How safe is it to fully update windows 10 now? with all the recent problems I have not updated for months
at the last few steps whereby , I tried to delete the files in the folder catroot2 (I did stop the cryptsvc service), the files could not be deleted, because, they are still being used by windows, what could be the problem? if they are not deleted, could it be a major problem whereby the error update would still persist?

I followed your instructions but nothing worked, only mistake i think i made was i renamed software distribution to software distribution.bakk with extra k. After that i couldnt delete the contents of the folders as you said. I still followed all the other steps till the end and my pc is still having same update issues. I REALLY FEEL BAD ABOUT THIS.

For me updating Windows Defender Signatures fix a problem.
when I do the signature update for mpcmdrun.exe it returns me an another error (0x800106BA)

My computer didn't want to do the definitions removal for some reason, but I followed the rest of the video and ended up fixing my initial issue anyway. Thanks a lot!

This happened to me today. Good, thorough video. After watching it, and taking notes, before attempting your fixes, I decided to try Windows Update one more time first, and lo and behold, luckily, it was suddenly working again, with no errors! I had read that sometimes this problem "will fix itself eventually", but was skeptical until this happened. Even so, thank you for making helpful videos like this. Nice to know what to do, should this happen again.

Unfortunately :/ my windows defender still persists to an error 0x80070643 after doing everything following your help :( should I leave it and install another anti virus? Thank you!
The problem I have, is that from updates that are already installed weeks or month ago, I get a message that there is a download error 0x80070643 and they can't be installed.Looks like I'm still protected, but my laptop (10 years old) go's through the update again when I restart. So at the end I suspended my updates for 7 days. No problems but also more vulnerable.
I can't delete files from the folder, there's something about using files in a cryptographic service

another solution install updates manually with windows update assistant In this way, you will have installed the latest update 22h2. and windows update works again(note:updates takes too long, you have to wait patiently)
I recieved an 0x80070005 error when trying to remove definitions in cmd??

i know this video is old but when i do the "%ProgramFiles%\Windows Defender\MPCMDRUN.exe" -SignatureUpdate -MMPC its comes back after 42% saying windows resource protectiopn could not perform the requested operation

Windows 1809 has broken sharing between computers on a network, any ideas Brian on how to get that working again or will it have to be fixed by Microsoft?

Dalmation /KCS Productions That doesn’t help and tried that first but thanks for the input. This has only come up since 1809 and something has changed but not sure what. I have dug around a bit into probable causes and solutions but no joy yet so have handed it over to Brian as he knows way more than me and hopefully he can find out what the problem is.
@@Britec09 Hi Brian, just to let you know that I have fixed the problem with me sharing between computers on my network at home after my 1809 update. After watching your video on Windows defender I thought I would give it a try as it seemed to work wonderfully when you tested it so I uninstalled Avast then low and behold my sharing was back in action. One thing with defender that I did find out is unless you are super paranoid, do not enable Controlled Folder Access as it will not allow you to save anything unless you have given that folder or whatever program you are using, permission to write to your disc which had me scratching my head for a little while. Hopefully this helps some people and saves you the trouble of fixing that. Now all I have to do is save all my pennies (about all I have lol) and get an SSD but that's gonna take some time :-) Love ya work and keep it up.

Ive some how managed to hold 1809 by setting on metered connection but 1809 is on my downloading list and it says that u can download it whenever u get out of metered connection. I just want to remove 1809 from download list and receive other updates. Do you have any suggestions?

Hi, i've tried all of this for the "update for windows version 20h2 for x86 - based systems (kb5001716)" and nothing works. It still comes back with this error code. I can't manualy download the update from microsoft either! I've even tried reinstalling windows 10 and it's still the same outcome. Can you think of anything else I can try before I throw this laptop in the bin?? Thanks :)

i found a solution you need to install windows update assistant and this way you install the updates manually it takes a long time to load but so i updated to 22h2 and windows update is working now

People if these methods don't help you just download Tweaking- Windows Repair go to repairs and check only repair windows update, wait a few minutes and it will fix the error
i get: signature failed with hr=800106BA when trying to do that signature update
When I try to do the remove definitions step I get error '0x80070005' and I am using administrator command prompt.

OK! I am still on win 10 1803 at my PC and prevent it from installing any more updates as when fix the 1809 and other updates. I will make the updates work again that is for me. As for the new update fix. Thanks for sharing the info with all of us. I am looking forward to change my HDD to SDD soon as my HDD physical issues and bad sectors started to show up for using win 10 on it. So will do the whole new windows on new SSD disk soon.
