I just started working at Sweetwater about a month ago, I’ve had my hands on a lot of these player series guitars, they are pretty cool. They’re doing a lot with the Mexican plant now. I personally love the Vintera series.
Really appreciate this review. I’ve come to realize the player series is probably as much as I can afford if I want to buy a new strat. Glad to know they’re as good as advertised!
No doubt true for me. The Mexican Fenders are great. I currently own a '92 American Standard Strat, a Mexican made Deluxe Strat from a few years ago and a Player's Series Tele bought about a year ago. I look at other guitars, but end up with a Fender. The made in Mexico ones are top notch value. My next one will probably be that buttercream finish with a humbucker at the bridge. I am going to have to start getting rid of stuff in my apartment to make room for more guitars🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸
I got a 2019 Fender Player Series a year ago, polar white. I totally agree with you - it's the best guitar you can get for the money. Major upgrades. I like the extra fret and, of course, the awesome F on the back plate! That alone makes it a steal!! Kidding about the F, but everything else is the truth.
Just picked up one of these. I love it too. I agree, an unbelievably low price for what you get. I moved the pup heights just to see if I could improve the tone, and it was set up perfect from the factory. Love the gritty dirty sound of these ceramic pups. I really enjoy your videos man! Thanks
Im not a strat player by any means either however i have a daphne blue classic series 50's strat I bought from the HOG back in 2010 because I always wanted a daphne blue strat like the one George Harrison played on Lennon's Imagine album. Now the catch is I have always wanted a "banana yellow strat" because as a kid, I had a guitar lessons business card from a guitar teacher and it had a "banana yellow strat" printed on the card. Now they have these here and I'm biting at the bullet to buy one. But mind you im not a strat guy but they are the koolest looking guitars ever! Did you buy yours here from the HOG?
I bought one of the Player Series Strats last summer when the 2018 model prices were plummeting. Picked up one from a local shop for next to nothing, still one of my favorite guitars. It's got the white pickups against the black guard so it kinda looks like a Gilmour signature strat, only at a fraction of the price.
Hey JJ..just curious...how many guitars do you have right now? I have 16 and my wife thinks thats way too many. My next purchase will be a Gibson ES-345 64 re-issue in the Olive Drab. Just love that guitar!
Enjoy it in good health PT! ...er ..uh ..James If I can't be the guy with that many awesome guitars it may as well be you. Thanks for all the lessons over the year despite some of the less than grateful comments you've received. Enjoy your new Strat!!
I just bought in May, mine is white and has the Floyd Ross set, with locking string nut...love the tones, you can get virtually any sound you can think of...coming Mexico, I am beyond impressed! Love your videos!☮✌😎
James, I just picked up a Fender Player Stratocaster a couple of months before the lockdown. I played it at G Center and it has all the mojo. It’s pink with a tortoise pick guard. I really don’t care what color a E-Guitar is if it has a great neck. Actually though the colors are quite striking. As you point out you can’t beat what you get for the price. It’s pro quality. I will gig with this Guitar with full confidence that it can handle it with flying colors. No pun intended. There is a difference in the bridge/tremolo from an American Standard Strat. The twang bar is fatter on the Player. The American Standard has a thinner twang bar. The twang bars are not interchangeable between the Player and the A-Standard. Keep up the great work. I really enjoy your channel.
Enjoy. I got a 2019 in Tidepool. I changed the tuners to Fender staggered locking. They are a great guitar for the price. I would say the squier classic vibe is more the beginner first strat. I prefer the 9.5 radius to 7.25 neck.
Enjoy everything you post. Nice escape from things. Look forward to hearing you play it. My Rocky is a Squier vintage vibe for the same reason -- paying homage. Cheers!
Seeing that Josh Allen jersey after my “same old Jets” laid yet another egg Sunday is tough. Your videos are my favorite of all on UA-cam and I dare say I would still watch even if you had a Patriots jersey on. That says a whole lot. I have a 2020 MIM player strat in the capri orange. Love it. Keep ‘em coming JJ and many thanks!!
Hello James James hope You and All UA-camrs are having Nice week and weekend to come! Your a Great Guitarist Amongst other UA-cam Guitarists i like watching & listening from time to time. Just like listening to You show Your cool guitars and playing music like 👍
It’s a beauty JJ. That ‘satin’ finish neck has a sorta ‘not sure what to think of it’ feel when new, but I’m telling you; don’t clean it (the back) just keep playing it. In a few months it starts ‘wearing in’ and OMG feels great and just keeps getting better. Wipe it down, of course, just don’t ‘clean’ it or sand it. I really dig the color. I finally bit the bullet in ‘18 bought a new ‘American something or other’ series Tele, the cheapest (just over $1G) USA built Tele at the time. Better (IMO) more ‘authentic’ features than the big$$$ USA versions. 3 brass barrels, stamped steel (not a work of art; many complaints; cheap looking, feeling; YUP, THAT’S the one I wanted) .., stamped bridge, modern Tele switching circuit... Best playing guitar I own. Love that you can still get the traditional and some newer funky colors on Fender Guitars. Mines a pinkish brownish brass metallic color called ‘Penny’. Anyway, nice guitar man. Enjoy. Peace
Have one just like it, down to the color, and I love it. I love my LP and other Fenders but I it's become my go to I play every day. Maybe the best value out there.
I'm new to Fender strats but picked up a 2020 Player plus top cherry burst HSS version earlier this year and love it. I've heard people with way more experience with Fender guitars favorably compare the Players to the old American Standard series though.
I am a Les Paul guy. I have had a Squire Strat for years (1st guitar) and have always wanted a Fender Strat. I trust James with every once of my being. I am purchasing this guitar tomorrow in Surf Pearl! So excited to play it!
All strats should come out of the factory with a tone knob roll off for the bridge in my opinion. That position needs it the most. It would also be cool if they all came with a push pull, to turn on both the bridge and neck pickup (tele sound). But i guess that might discourage people from buying a tele since you have all the features of it and more. I have a squier, and i swapped the pickups, bridge saddles, and wired one of the tone knobs to work for the bridge. Squier were weird or lazy with the design, and gave all the standards 500k pots so theyre even more bright than your usual strat. So i really needed the roll off option.
100% agree with this. Many times I find myself playing through the bridge pickup and feeling the need to roll off the tone a little bit, but it's not possible
James, I appreciate your review. I have an American Deluxe Strat, an American Pro Telecaster. The only Gibson I have is a Nighthawk that I was lucky to pick up off of eBay. It has the Burstbuckers and sounds great. In watching your videos, you use your ES 345 a lot and I love the sound. I was wondering if you have had any experience with the Epiphones as I’d like to get one without spending Gibson money. Thank you so much for what you do!
I’ve never owned an Epiphone. I own a Tokai, an early one, and it’s outstanding. I’ve also owned an Orville by Gibson, which I loved. Those are both cheaper than Gibsons.
Nice shirt! We're big Bill's fans and especially #17 Josh Allen. I live in Fresno so I get to hang out with the family from time to time (my daughter is best friends with his cousin, which led to...) IN FACT, Josh's dad is in my fantasy football league!! Oh and... nice new Strat!!!
I bought a player Strat a while back and right before then I had played and American Professional Series Strat and honestly I don’t think the American Strat was any better!
The simplest mod on a Strat is to solder a little jumper wire from the tone pot to the bridge terminal on the selector switch, about an inch or two long and you'll have that tone control on the bridge pup
I have a Daphne blue (now greenish) '90 MIJ Strat ('62 Reissue). I love it, though I really like the satin necks on the new ones. I debate removing the gloss. I replaced the cheap wiring, pots and switch a few years back.
If you could show the setting for your covers...cause you nailed every single tone....you sounds really right man....!!!! Congratulations for your new baby....
James, MIJ don’t necessarily interest me but Mike and Mike’s Guitar Bar in Seattle (also Reverb) seem to have a lot of used MIJ guitars. I always wonder who is the big collector who is selling off his MIJ guitars lol. I sift through the MIJs to look at the others.
I love what fender have done here, I am looking for a second guitar, single coil fender strat or a telecaster, they're affordable, especially used, I think Gibson should have a line other than the boring studio that's in the affordable range, fender have made a good move here, Gibson will hopefully follow suit, having Said that they do have Epiphone models if you find a good 1 that Will match a Gibson Les Paul studio at Least, I am pretty blown away with my custom pro,, Great first guitar, got lucky, not 1 thing done to it
First guitar was a Strat. My mate said Listen to this and plugged in an SG with P90s. Beginning of my Sabbath days 1973. Gone was the Strat. Then had a Trower phase. Strat No2. Nope that was gone after Back in Black. Still had my P90. Then came SG Standard. Then Robert Cray came along. Strat No3 a Clapton. Plugged in and thought Nope! Gone was that and never had a Strat since. I keep wanting to buy a Tele but just can’t bring myself to single coils. Bought a PRS McCarty in 2003 thinking both worlds. Nope sat in its case for 17 years until sold it a couple of weeks ago. It’s the single coils and 4 screws that I just can’t live with. Am I the only one??
Hi Everyone! I haven't read through all of the comments... Is that the buttercream one? It looks different than on the Fender pictures... I like the colour a lot! 😍
I agree with you about playing in the neck and neck and middle position pickups - for some reason no matter what pickup I put in the bridge my overdrive just kind of shitts out leaving me playing The hollies long woman in black dress (sorry my early Alzheimer’s is kicking in and can’t remember the exact name of the song). Cool Strat dude 🎸 Hope all is well Mate ! 😃🤟 ❤️🎼
That's probably down to personal preference, but to me, the made in USA isn't worth the extra. I'm more of a Gibson player, so I don't need a top-of-the-line Strat.
I bought an epiphone a few months ago, kind of as the first guitar i found and bought myself. I never had anything les paul like so I had to get something like it but now i'm learning why my dad always told me i'd prefer a start once i've played more guitars than strats and the one tele we had. I really miss the single coil sound (but only with a rosewood fret board and an amp that has the bass cranked up all the way). at some point again, for now I'm managing fine with the epiphone (except for an open b7... oh well... having to work around something just improves your playing :D)
Was new guitar day for me too yesterday and I got a 2007 custom shop LP that was a 60s reissue. Amazing guitar but still doesn't compare to my custom strat or custom tele. Just something about fender custom stuff that is tough to beat.
The color reminds me of a 50s or 60s kitchen appliance. Beautiful guitar.
I just started working at Sweetwater about a month ago, I’ve had my hands on a lot of these player series guitars, they are pretty cool. They’re doing a lot with the Mexican plant now. I personally love the Vintera series.
Everyone is a strat guy some just dont know it yet.
definitely......
Truth
Sweet guitar!
Man, I absolutely love your channel(s). Have been a life saver, esp during this shutdown. Keep up the great work man. Love it!
Bought it in HSS and have absolutely no regrets! The humbucker gives me a nice range of sounds and the quality is excellent. Buttercream is a hit.
Congrats on the new strat! Really love your “my guitars” videos and hope you keep them coming!
So the 12" radius doesn't bother you? That's the only reason I haven't bought one. Well, that and the price is somewhat of an issue.
Neck is fine, but I'm not very particular about that stuff. Hand me a guitar and I'll play it.
@@kitano0 The Fender Player series strats have a 9.5" radius neck.
I bought the exact same one a few months ago!! I love it, and thanks for all the videos you teach me something new everyday.
Really appreciate this review. I’ve come to realize the player series is probably as much as I can afford if I want to buy a new strat. Glad to know they’re as good as advertised!
No doubt true for me. The Mexican Fenders are great. They are not ceramic pickups. They were upgraded to Alinco V single coils and Alinco II humbuckers.

THANKS, JAMES! DON'T BE NERVOUS! YOU'RE AMONG FRIENDS! GREAT VIDEOS!
Beauty! Lots of folks prefer the 2 point trem, they work very well.
beautiful guitar! fender is having it’s biggest sales year ever. I just bought a j Mascis jazzmaster.
This one is perfect to play some Hendrix tunes👍

hey James, sweet guutar!!! i do love those maple necks!... this video gavd a great idea for a early Xmas present!!
Looks like a Jimmy Vaughn signature. Dig the color too.
Glad you like it!! Your have a great channel.
Very nice! Already looking forward to whatever tune you pick out to play for all of us. :)

What a great color. Is it a light yellow?
I picked up a hot rod red strat with the c rosewood neck. Satin finish. It’s a great guitar!
It's called buttercream.
i love the color
Bought one recently too.
Love it.
Thx for the vids.
Just got one in Polar White last week. Love it

the MIM's are great guitars I have an HSS players series I have been very happy with
I have a 2008 American Standard one (3 single coils), but it hums a lot, specially when knobs aren't on 10. Any tips?
The new fender players series stratocaster are awesome. They don't need any upgrades. I'm very happy with Mexican Stratocasters.
Sounds great and the color is really nice!!
Have one just like it, down to the color, and I love it. I love my LP and other Fenders but I it's become my go to I play every day. Maybe the best value out there.
She's a peach. Did you deck the trem or do you like it to float?
I’ll probably block it off. If it were up to me, they’d all be hardtails..
I'm new to Fender strats but picked up a 2020 Player plus top cherry burst HSS version earlier this year and love it. I've heard people with way more experience with Fender guitars favorably compare the Players to the old American Standard series though.

@@jamesjames9275 I am loving it! I did swap out the pickups for Fender Yosemite's. I am super pleased with it!
Awesome. I just got an eric Johnson strat a few months ago.i love it
Nice! How are the pickups for noise?
MIMs are ridiculous value, indeed. I love my MIM Tele.
I bought the polar white one earlier this year, also got it signed by Phil X. My first Strat and I love it, keep up the great work.
I've always had a thing for white (or close to it) guitars (especially strats and SGs). Thanks for sharing!
I read somewhere that more guitar will be sold this year than ever before.
All strats should come out of the factory with a tone knob roll off for the bridge in my opinion. That position needs it the most.

Squier were weird or lazy with the design, and gave all the standards 500k pots so theyre even more bright than your usual strat. So i really needed the roll off option.
I've always wanted a single master tone. 5-way w/ Volume for bridge/volume for middle & neck combined/master tone.
100% agree with this. Many times I find myself playing through the bridge pickup and feeling the need to roll off the tone a little bit, but it's not possible

That's a pretty sweet strat !! 👍👍
Have you looked at the Harley Benton guitars? Look great, but seem to good/cheap to be true
my new strats coming tuesday can't wait!
Tell me about your strat!!
I have the Tele version... LOVE the satin on the back of the neck.
My Mexican built Jazzmaster I bought here in Australia is fantastic. Extraordinary quality for a great price. 😀🎸
That's a sweet looking CREAM colored strat. You may want to rock the frets though. Rock on JJ!
I’ve got an 82 fender Stratocaster that looks just like that except it has gold hardware- The Strat. Love it. I’ve been wondering about these tho
I bought a player Strat a while back and right before then I had played and American Professional Series Strat and honestly I don’t think the American Strat was any better!
Nice axe James...... So....how many guitars do you have?
Perfect guitar for some SRV 👍👍 Football is back baby !!!
I watched this video and a few others on the player Strat. I bought the plus top model today and it’s great
They're really fine guitars.
What a beautiful guitar!
New guitar = new songs...love it!
The simplest mod on a Strat is to solder a little jumper wire from the tone pot to the bridge terminal on the selector switch, about an inch or two long and you'll have that tone control on the bridge pup
The fender series does have tone control on the bridge already. That was one of the best upgrades
I need HELP i am a non lacqaured neck player buy i want a sg do i get used to a lacquared neck then or will it alwayb be awkward???
I have a Daphne blue (now greenish) '90 MIJ Strat ('62 Reissue). I love it, though I really like the satin necks on the new ones. I debate removing the gloss. I replaced the cheap wiring, pots and switch a few years back.
James James, you have a favourite guitar model?
For electric, I'd always have to have a Les Paul.
Hey James I love the new Strat!
If you could show the setting for your covers...cause you nailed every single tone....you sounds really right man....!!!! Congratulations for your new baby....
Should call that your Pride and Joy! I dig the color.
But he’s not a Strat guy... but has two LOL Best guitar channel on UA-cam! Keep on rockin!
Looks a beautiful guitar, what did you pay for it?
Probably money
Have you tried the 2020
Epiphone range yet? Phenomenal!!
I hear good things about those.
Hmmm, your Daphne Blue Mexican “Classic”... are you sure it was not part of what Fender used to call its “Road Worn” series ?
It was the Classic Series. They did 50s spec and 60s spec. They might still make those, I haven’t checked.

In one sense they are but technically quite different.
Love that cream color.
Hi Everyone!
I haven't read through all of the comments... Is that the buttercream one? It looks different than on the Fender pictures... I like the colour a lot! 😍
I now need a player series!!!
Wow, congrats James !!
Nice! I’m also a sucker for the older strat colors.
Very nice. Love the color.
Nice guitar, I almost bought this same one before COVID. Beautiful guitar with that aged yellow look.
Am curious to see the before and after of those bridge saddles after you set the intonation.
Beautiful guitar great sound all the way a Strat
I agree with you about playing in the neck and neck and middle position pickups - for some reason no matter what pickup I put in the bridge my overdrive just kind of shitts out leaving me playing The hollies long woman in black dress (sorry my early Alzheimer’s is kicking in and can’t remember the exact name of the song).
Cool Strat dude 🎸
Hope all is well Mate ! 😃🤟
❤️🎼
is the made in USA worth the extra over this guitar ?
That's probably down to personal preference, but to me, the made in USA isn't worth the extra. I'm more of a Gibson player, so I don't need a top-of-the-line Strat.
Thanks , il now try this before i jump for the usa, can always switch to better pickups i guess.
I’ve been seriously considering one of those for about a year.
I bought an epiphone a few months ago, kind of as the first guitar i found and bought myself. I love it ....and the new guitar is nice too. Go Bills.
How much U.S. is that about, $600? I see it's $979 CDN up here in Toronto.....
they're running right at about 700 bucks or so that's about going rate in the states too
Was new guitar day for me too yesterday and I got a 2007 custom shop LP that was a 60s reissue. Amazing guitar but still doesn't compare to my custom strat or custom tele. Just something about fender custom stuff that is tough to beat.
