    I like how you updated this recipe and salt the pork before putting it in the IP. And that you are using the fat from the cooked pork to brown.

    My husband and I have tried various recipes, but we love using our sour clementines (from our backyard) as the liquid in the Instant-Pot. Just a suggestion.👩🏻‍🍳 We’ve also played around with using country style boneless ribs as the protein & it’s delicious.

    nice ! I put mine under the grill to brown saves adding the oil. Have you tried adding cumin, chilli powder, a sliced onion jalapeno and a little cinnamon to the mix and then pressure cook...... very tasty

    Good job Flo! Love me some Carnitas. After making it in the Instant Pot I usually put it under the Broiler and I've been cooking my Pork Shoulder whole. I think next time I'll try your method of cutting it into chunks then on the stovetop. Thanks for the video!

    • @FloLum

      Thanks so much for your comment! I find I get crispier morsels when frying the pieces up which is what I would normally do if I was making them via the stovetop method.

      TomieT1965 - I do it under the broiler after it is shredded too. And cutting it into smaller pieces, makes it cook faster and more surface area to soak up the goodness! ;-)

    So happy to convert this recipe for the pressure cooker. If you're looking for a less messy stove top version ;) check out my UA-cam video here: ua-cam.com/video/7lV5D_QLjlw/v-deo.html

    Hello 👋. Next time fry it up in batches on sauté mode with olive oil inside the Insta pot. It will save you some splattering around your kitchen to clean 😉😉. Thank you for sharing.

    Flo, I couldn’t survive without a splatter screen. I’m ridiculous and obsessive about grease, but I love your splatter screen so much more than mine. Do you mind sharing where you got yours? I’m still loving your channel as much as I first did. I should be embarrassed to admit that I’ve watched most of them several rounds, and every recipe I’ve made has been delicious. I’m surprised how easy you’ve made it for me to fix Asian dishes, which are a first for me. Thanks for taking time to make my life easier. It is much appreciated, and this goes for Dude too. Love ya both. Jo

      @FloLum  6 років тому +1

      Love you back, Jo! I am so thrilled that you stayed and watched and now enjoy our banter. I’m also very pleased to help you enjoy cooking again and to introduce new flavours in your kitchen! I will add the splatter screen to my Amazon shop. If you are obsessive about grease, you may want to look into Norwex products. You can buy them direct from me in Canada, otherwise you’ll have to find someone in the US.

      That was silly of me. I think I was just having a missing my husband day, along with the terrible pain from the pancreatectomy and reacted to you and Dudes fun loving banter in a converse way. I’m glad that I shook it off because I so enjoy you both soooo much, and your recipes are to die for. Thx for understanding.

    I'm sure it tasted great, but traditional cranitas uses a little bit of coke I know sounds weird, and squeezed orange juice leave in the oranges although I've never done carnitas in a pressure in a pressure cooker before. A different technique but looked tasty!

    Was wonering if you could remove the meat and all of the juices from the instant pot and then add oil to tbe bottom of the pot and fry the meat using the sautee function ? Was it trying to figure out what a way to keep the grease splatter & mess down

    • @FloLum
      @FloLum  8 років тому +1

      +jemma28 For sure! But I'm impatient like that. ;) LOL! If you watch my stove top version, it is way less splatter since I make it in my dutch oven. ua-cam.com/video/7lV5D_QLjlw/v-deo.html

      I was thinking possibly seat first so it doesn't all pull apart when trying to remove from the pan. I always use this method for chicken breasts and thick cut pork chops, can't think of a reason it won't work?

  • @peterc504
    @peterc504 6 років тому +1

    You couldnt just use the saute function of the instant pot instead of using a pan? I find a slow cooker to be less mess & dont need to worry until its done 6 hours later lol Whats best slow cooker or instant pot?

    • @FloLum
      @FloLum  6 років тому

      I prefer using my cast iron to sear the meat. And I really dislike slow cooking. I used to slow cook for years, never happy with the results but sometimes was necessary to prepare a meal ahead of time.

    • @peterc504
      @peterc504 6 років тому +2

      Flo Lum you don't think slow cooking is best for tough meats to get them tender? Also do you or anyone else have a suggestion for an alternative to a gas oven? I run an off shore business and my gasoven is broken. the burners work but the oven does not so Is there maybe an electric convection oven I could use that can do the same as a gas oven? I run a 30kw generator so I have massive amounts of electric power...

    • @FloLum
      @FloLum  6 років тому

      Nope, I always found slow cooking meat made it too dry and “fall off the bone” was too fall off the bone and the texture was just awful IMO. I can pressure cook in much less time and get super tender meat.
      As for your gas oven situation, I am sorry... I have no idea!

    hi Flo. getting me hungry. could you have drained the liquid from the IP, and sautéed the pork in there?

    • @FloLum
      @FloLum  8 років тому

      +A Murphy Hi Arlene, my original recipe for this is made on the stove top (ua-cam.com/video/7lV5D_QLjlw/v-deo.html). To finish off on the stove, it's a matter of boiling off all the liquid and letting the pork pieces fry in its own fat. So I would say yes!

    Pressure cooker carnitas are cooked on the stove top?

    • @FloLum

      I browned the meat on the stove after it was pressure cooked. If you're looking for a stove top version, I have a video made before my Instant Pot days. ua-cam.com/video/7lV5D_QLjlw/v-deo.html

      shelia french I actually wish that there was a 10 quart. During holidays we use it to make sweet potatoes the night before and I like to cook a big batch of stuff and freeze half or more. Using it to cook a whole chicken has been life changing and Flo’s recipe is the one I use.

      I bought mine at Kohls back in November 2019 & it was about 70 plus 10$ cash back the 8qt and I searched up the 6qt cz I thought that the 6qt would be much less expensive but nope 🙅🏻 to my luck 6qt was about 90 & only the 8qt was on sale we are a family of 3 & it works fine I can definitely tell that I can make food for many more lol 😆

    Love Carnitas, and make them in the Instant Pot also. You really need to add the juice and rind of at least one orange, the juice of one lime, onion, cilantro, and cumin. I like your videos but I’m thinking your Carnitas are a bit bland.
