Most expensive children's TV's series ever produced until that time. I fell hard for Wishbone as an adult. Wonderful introduction to classic literature for kids, synchronized with a contemporary narrative. Just brilliant. God bless PBS, producers, actors, and everyone involved in this fantastic, memorable show. "Teach your children well... Teach your parents well..." - CSNY "Let's wag another tale..." Love & education to all.
I love this show! I started watching Wishbone as an adult because I had afternoons free. It is an amazing show for adults and kids alike. Soccer the Dog, who played Wishbone, passed away in 2001 at age 13. He was the most adorable, talented TV dog ever.
Soccer = yes Wishbone = no. Wishbone is fiction and Soccer is reality. But Wishbone will always be here and Soccer will always live in hearts and our memories!
Yes, I remember seeing this, and then seeing the movie, thinking "The Esmeralda in _this_ interpretation is _alot_ more sexuallized than the one in Wishbone!"
Good lord, talk about your nostalgia growing up watching this as a kid. It's really a shame that Wisbone the dog has passed away but he lived up to be in his old age and that's to be expected. R.I.P. Soccer the Dog(Wishbone). You will forever be missed. As well as the guy that does Wishbone's voice as well.
For anyone who is a fan of Victor Hugo and "The Hunchback of Notre Dame", I would also like to suggest you check out his other classic book called "The Man Who Laughs". Its story involves a blind girl named Dea and Gwynplaine, a man who earns his living as a clown because his mouth was cut into a grin (like the Joker) when he was a child. Gwynplaine and Dea love each other very much, but, as a fair warning, in the typical Hugo style, the story still doesn't end well. It's a beautiful love story.
I was also bullied by kids in gym class. One even push me down the floor when we were doing laps. Things like this made me miss the Catholic School I went to because the friends I had there were the best friends I ever had. And Sam reminds me of this girl I knew from Catholic School who was a very good friend and she always tried to make me laugh.
@TrainSounds Redo the show, use another (equally cute, talented) dog, and have the girl who played Sam, as the mother of Joe Talbot. Would be great to see them, as they cover a bunch of stories, that the original series didn't!
I remember watching this show when I was a kid!!!! Ahhh this brings back memories....:) I'm sure Wishbone has passed away by now, but I must say, what a cute dog!! Maybe Wishbone is the reason why I'm such a dog person today....
Hunchback of Notre Dame is a classic from Wishbone to Disney. But I loved Les Miserable more because I watched the movie and saw the musical on Broadway
I loved this show as a kid! I loved the story aspect more than the contemporary story. So much fun! I also loved Reading Rainbow...so guess what I love to do?
OMG, thank you, thank you, thank you, thank you!!!!!!! I love this episode!!!!!!! It was one of my favorites as a kid. I remember seeing it for the first time not long after the Disney adaptation of "The Hunchback of Notre Dame" came out. This episode is truly a classic in the "Wishbone" series and is one of the things that got me interested in one of my now-favorite writers, Victor Hugo. Thank you SO MUCH for uploading this. :)
Can't argue with you there. The perfect example of a written work, foreshadowing the true-life origins of soooo many different peoples' trauma, victimization, and class-action lawsuits.
I miss this show so much, yes I still watch it. I'll be 19 next Febuaray and I'll still be watching Wishbone probably everyday for the rest of my life until I die.
@AngeliniMeataballa Haha, I actually always thought they would have cast him as Homo, the wolf, but the idea of Wishbone as either Ursus or Gwynplaine is just hilarious. XD And yes, "Wishbone" should still be going. I can think of a million books/stories they didn't do that would have been epically awesome in episodes. :)
"WISHBONE!" and hes like "WAT" with all this sass and attitude xD im so glad my brothers and sisters were 90's kids. i might have never known this show!
@AngeliniMeataballa You're welcome. Let me know how you like the book. I love "The Man Who Laughs". It's one of Hugo's obscure works, but it's my favorite of his--I've even written a stage play adaptation of it. I've yet to try and tackle "Les Miserables". Even though I'm a fast reader, it took me literally months to finish both "The Hunchback of Notre Dame" and "The Man Who Laughs" and so knowing that "Les Miserables" was Hugo's longest book, I'm nervous to try and dive into it. :)
ty of uploading this!!!! the last i watched wishbone was when my big brother was REALLY interested in him! but now he lost interest... :( and it has been a LONG time :)
@AngeliniMeataballa I just had a thought: How amazing would it have been if the Wishbone gang did a "The Man Who Laughs" episode? Oh, the possibilities. I could just hear some of Wishbone's side comments now . . . :) Which role would he play, do you think?
My only complaint about this entire series is He doesn't understand roller hokey But he understands at least algebra 1 and basic math Social work History And great American literature classics along with other classics

I really loved these as a kid. This and reading rainbow. I wish they were put back on pbs in my home town.
I'm 20 years old and remember reading the books and watching this when I was little. God, I regret growing up man. :(
TheNakedRamen
Hey, congratulatuons.
You are 24 now.
You regret growing up man? Should you have grown up woman instead?
If only your parents hadn't vaccinated you... Then you wouldn't have grown up. :D
@@TheDrexxus 😂😂😂
what's the storryyy wishbone?? 😭
I'm convinced a real dog was at the computer, writing Wishbone's lines because they seem so accurate to what a dog is thinking.
Could be! :=)
The Silent Hill dog
I’m 37 years old and remember watching this after school every day from 5* grade to 8* grade, back when the show was brand new lol
R.I.P Soccer, you made my childhood memorable.
Who is Soccer
Ken Earl Soccer the dog was the canine actor who played Wishbone. he passed in 2001
Fuck off with your googling facts and shit bitch Wishbone will never die.
Soccer = yes Wishbone = no. Wishbone is fiction and Soccer is reality. But Wishbone will always be here and Soccer will always live in hearts and our memories!
@@aaron-n yo chill, and yeah he died. So shut up
I love wishbone. And i used to watch these as an adult. So cute and educational.
Happy 25th Hunchback of Notre Dame. This came out in ‘95 predates the Disney version by a year
Yes, I remember seeing this, and then seeing the movie, thinking "The Esmeralda in _this_ interpretation is _alot_ more sexuallized than the one in Wishbone!"
Wishbone is what got me through me English classes during High School. R.I.P. Soccer

Pretty sure that guy didn't die...
He is still doing V-O work, & lives in Dallas, TX.
R.I.P. Soccer The Dog (Wishbone) you made my childhood a great one. You will be missed Buddy.
I remember this. I used to watch this with my grandma when I was little.
Dang this show brings back so many memories…
R.I.P. soccer the dog (a.k.a. Wishbone)
I love how the Wishbone adaptations are more faithful than some of the "real" adaptations.
Man, this show was the shit back in the day!
I think it's so cute how the gargoyles are shaped like bloodhounds!
THIS SHOW AND ARTHUR WERE THE BEST SHOWS OF THE 90s!! Seriously. Amazing stuff, PBS. I want it on DVD!
Re-living my childhood. Had the stuffed animal as well as several books. 📚

I have heard of this story! It is what the "Joker" from "Batman" is based off of.
I love Wishbone's voice actor he's so funny makes ya get in the mind of a dog :) but I wish they'd bring this show back :(
Sorry but they cant sadly soccer (the dog who played wishbone) died :(
This puppy is so cute!! I can't take it!
Imagine writing a comment and eight years later someone replies
The most underrated actor ever

They need to bring this show back on.
TheFashiongirl23 Bring back as cartoon maybe?
The show was around in the 90s so all the kids are now in their late 20s to early 30s.
I would totally watch it.
I know a classic
@TrainSounds Redo the show, use another (equally cute, talented) dog, and have the girl who played Sam, as the mother of Joe Talbot. Would be great to see them, as they cover a bunch of stories, that the original series didn't!

Man i never realized it was so learning focused as a kid in the 90s that's how great it was.
I use to watch this ALL the time when I was little it was so awesome!!!!! I just realized my dog looks just like wishbone XD
Lmao at Wishbone wagging his tail when the villain gets him

Wishbone: Wow! Whose that?
Me: (imitating Laverne) Esmeralda. Dark hair. Works with a goat.
I always did love the part of Quasimodo because his heart was as good as gold
Hunchback of Notre Dame is a classic from Wishbone to Disney. But I loved Les Miserable more because I watched the movie and saw the musical on Broadway

well the original story was right about Frollo being a major pervert

OMG I'm not goin to lie! I'm 23 years old and I love wishbone still! How I miss this show sooo much.

Amazing concept. Absolutely amazing. 😊❤️
wishbone your so cute but don't tell my dog he'll get unset :D
I'm almost 20 years old and this brings back so much nostalgia. O_O
How was Wishbone just allowed to go in everywhere? I always wondered that as a kid 😂
Yeah good point as dogs are banned in most places, I thought he might be a school dog though like a therapy dog
I love both this episode and the Disney movie!!
wtf did bill wurtz write the theme song? Sounds identical to him
I loved this show too! I also had the whole set of Wishbone books--I wish I still had them.
ANYTIME I stayed home from school, I was watching Wishbone
That mid 90s soundtrack ♥️ the rink ♥️nostalgia upon nostalgia
I miss this show it was my favorite :'(

When I think of Hunchback, i always think of the Disney version.
I certainly am aware of it, but neither Phoebus or Clopin are/were in the "Wishbone" production.
Here's a bit of a fun fact, this version of Victor Hugo's novel was made a year before Disney released their version.
Me 2!
Except this is less terrifying
"Um, sir? I may be deaf, and that might be sign language, but you have quite a stutter." 😂😂😂 BURN!
I miss shows like these
" well this is an interesting development now isn't it " lmao
I love watching wishbone as a child
I don't like to see Frollo being mean to little Wishbone !!!😰
Spreading hope " Be careful, keep calm and don't be afraid. Do not lose heart. " Isaiah 7:4
I loved wishbone in the 90s.
I think I'm dying from pure nostalgia.
Imagine if they had done Les Mis. That would have been beautiful.
A 3 or 4 episode mini series
@Danielle Gregor Yes, please!
1:07 wishbone looks so sad!
"WISHBONE!" and hes like "WAT" with all this sass and attitude xD im so glad my brothers and sisters were 90's kids. i might have never known this show!

My only complaint about this entire series is

But he understands at least algebra 1 and basic math
Social work
History
And great American literature classics along with other classics
Wow, mole guy is creepier than I remembered. :P
@Kysentha Yes he is! He so well trained that I can't tell the difference between being really well trained and really acting!
What's the story Wishbone? HA HA HA. What a cute Doggie !!!
So much nostalgia. Oh the memories. :3
I grew up watching this show
I love the dog
To think: I was picky about what to watch as a kid and never gave this show a chance until 2 years ago
Growing up I remember how old these kids looked, watching it now, how old were they? 12?
