Milton I have been watching your videos for maybe a month or two now and I’m deeply fascinated in bonsai and have found it therapeutic and often try apply your bonsai philosophy to my everyday life. I am very inspired by you and I live around a lot of pine forests so last week I decided to hand dig some pine seedlings and Ive put them in respectable sized pots. These will be my first bonsai, call me cheap but after seeing the average prices of mature bonsai trees I’m more than happy to take the marathon route in the beginning of my journey to grow a bonsai. It is also my personal belief that I will be more satisfied with my bonsai knowing it’s from a local sprout and I will have a deeper connection to it. I typed this comment after watching your last video for beginners,i decided to put this comment in your latest video in hopes i have a better chance that you actually read this. Thank you Dr. Milton
CA weather is mild enough that pine and Junipeer grows well in the winter time. So, I do dfertrilize the in the winter month. I recommend to most people every week in the summer months, every other week or once a month in the winter months.
Dear god! That miserable spazoid worm at 6:44 is probably gonna give me nightmares. Uhm, so anyways.... I love all your junipers, they really thrive in your region. My question: are there certain species of bonsai material you wish you could grow but cannot because your climate is unsuitable or less-than-ideal for them?
Two questions: 1) are there bonsai designs which do not have an apex? 2) if you have two bar branches on a tree, are there ways to disguise or minimize this flaw without removing one of the branches? Thanks.
Sure! a tree top may die off... Two ways to handle bar branch. (1) Cut one shorter and let a side branch grow sideways, 92) Make one branch into a jin.
Yes. no reason why not...although the leaves are not particularly attractive. Flowerin Apricot is considerd a very very desierable bonsai tree...Prunus mume.
Love the Q&A. There's always someone who askes the same questions I was thinking of.
Great!
Please tell a friend!
We need more men like this to pass down forgotten knowledge. Thank you
Happy to!
Thanks for the encouragement
