I remember I was a bit bummed out because I was such a WWF fan at that time and knew very little about WCW outside of the NWO, but I’m glad she had got it for me. This video is what got me interested in actually watching WCW and made me a fan of Sting, and I still own it till this day even though I no longer own a VCR 😂
So funny, I was a huge WWF fan and didn't like WCW much until Hall and Nash defected. I remember running out of WWF videos to rent at Blockbuster and "settling" for WCW videos and that filled in so many blanks of cross federation fueds and storylines. Crazy how hard it was then to stay plugged into everything.
@@DimJongUn I was always more of a WCW fan but still watched WWF every week. I would watch Nitro live every Monday night and tape RAW is War on the VHS player in our other room. Ended up loving both promotions in retrospect.
Sting is the most well-rounded wrestler. He had size & strength to pull off power moves. He could pull off high flying moves, pull off submissions, his mic work was passable, and he was an absolute workhorse. He should be on the Mt Rushmore of pro wrestling.

Had this VHS as a kid in 1998 or 1999 and wore the tracking out. I know Sting was still pretty much in character, but back then this was as close as it got to a behind-the-scenes "shoot" interview and it was incredible seeing Sting so candid/outspoken. This tape is so tame compared to unlimited backstage wrestling insight available now via a simple UA-cam search.
I feel like the Bischoff in those interviews is stuck between several realities. He's like aging right before our eyes and then getting young again one second later
In 97, he was almost constantly smiling in character, as WCW was winning the war. By 98, when they were starting to lose, he looked to be very stressed suddenly and aged quicker.
Sting is part of the greatest promo in wrestling history… “All I have to say is our partner is going to shock the world because he is none other than The ShockMaster”
same here lol plus seeing an actual interview of him without wearing any type of sunglasses back then was extremely rare so it was one of my favorites too back in the day
These tapes are really something different some seem to completely break kayfabe while others keep it going or a mix of both. Also seen like Alex Wright produced the music.
Hmm never knew Sid had one of these, that'll be a hoot. Never seen this one either and always wanted to do so, thank you so much for covering it! 😬😬I don't remember these VHS tapes in the late 90's but now that I'm looking at them, it was best that I had never seen them back then or I would've stop watching wrestling much, much, more sooner than later. 🙄🙄Yes, these videos might have sold a lot back in its days but you have to remember that people back then only bought these tapes to get a real perspective into their profession and whatever else, but it really didn't. In this video, The Stinger is really putting over Lex Luger for some reason. I wonder what strange hold did Lex Luger have over The Stinger to have him keep mentioning in at least three interview scenes that Lex Luger is The Stinger's friend. Maybe there was some connection to that erotic statement towards the end of the video, I don't know . . . 🤔🤔
Favorite Wrestler of all time, it's a tragedy how we lost him for so many years of him in his prime. I personally hope to see him come back in the original face paint one more time. I don't need the bleached hair, but to see the original Stinger come out Woooooh😃
I used to love this tape. Big Sting fan. Seeing him without the face paint and listening to him talk about his career, I was real happy with the video. Thanks for covering this and giving me some nostalgia.
I think this has been my favorite of the three videos so far. The tidbit about why he (and the Warrior) starting wearing face paint is certainly the best little behind the scenes nugget we've gotten from any of them.
Imagine a universe where Glacier became SO MASSIVE but also disgruntled that he had bargaining power when jumping over to WWF. And he instantly becomes a top contender for the world title once he officially jumps ship to WWF😂🤣😂
Dood... are we gonna see individual wrestlers from day 1 as episodes in your series? Not gonna say that will or would b easy, but dang that would make so many people happy to see how characters got their starts. Many only knew Sting and Ultimate Warrior crossed paths because of Warriors issues. Not many people know how Steve Blackman got to the WWE and from where Nor Alex Wright or Disco Inferno. Thank you for all that you've done already and hope your break was cathartic.
I was recently sacked from work, so then I had no idea what I was going to do but that day I made a decision to paint myself and I then walked back into the office of the man who sacked me and he told me I could have his job, I am now a manager and it’s all thanks to facepaint!
Gotta give an honorable mention to Scott Hall in this one because you get to see him selling in alot of the highlight reels and he was always so good at it. I've grown to have alot of respect for his career/skills as I've looked back over the years.
In the UK there's were easy to find, unlike most WCW tapes. I remember something about them being made to go with the WCW magazine or similar and that stopping before they could be relased, so they were sold off cheap.
Stinger legit left at least 25 mil or more on the table by not going to WWE 10 or 15 years before he did. Some guys can resist that big big money to work where they want I guess.
Sting in any NWO faction made ZERO sense!! They should've put Sting and Bret Hart together as hit men takin out NWO dudes or something. Maybe with pink & black face paint! Yer best friend, Lex Luger, turns heel to join the NWO? Paint your face and hunt 'em down with the Hitmen 🤣
I remember when my dad brought home the WCW tapes from his trip to America for me and I watched the vid on Sting over and over again. Always enjoyed it.
Sting comes across as a great guy, not only from watching him in/out of character but I hear others say it too. Also this video is much better than the Hogan vid and light years better than that boring as... Goldberg vid lol. Big fan of the Stinger :) have a good day reader :)
@WrestlingBios Please look into the Sting part 2 of the wcw superstar series, probably one of the best "in kayfabe" documentaries. I loved it as a kid.
If you're a Christian and a sting fan i highly recommend watching the movie "the encounter" which he was in playing an ex football player and does some pretty good acting in it.
I loved the Superstar Series tapes - I got into wrestling watching WCW Worldwide on UK Channel 5 with my grandmother, and I used to buy her a VHS every Friday after school, starting with these releases. I hope you cover the Ric Flair one. Now that VHS is all but obsolete, I wonder if younger fans can even imagine the magical importance of these documentaries!
TNA once had AJ Styles go all silent like Sting as he changed his look which would eventually be his New Japan Bullet Club look and later his WWE look.
Oh my Godddddddddddddddd. I owned this tape!!!! It's funny you mention them being in character though since Back in Black is when he's literally just acting like Sting in character the entire time. Loved them both.
Dude, I had this video and burned it from end to end at least 4,678 times lol they sold because it was the only taste of extra content that a lot of us could get. Awesome memories
Wwe would have tarnished the sting early invasion angle. Even after 14 years he went to wwe and lost with dignity. If it was early years it would have been with humiliation. So he made the right decision
I kinda think the face paint thing, really worked at the earlier stages, because while yes, wrestling is good because of the abilities, BUT I also think the look can play an important roll too. It kinda reminds me of a Rob Zombie interview actually when he admitted he knew that when he started White Zombie it was a terrible band, and going to the shows probably felt like a train wreck, but he at least wanted to make it a beautiful train wreck by giving the audience a show (not just the music but the stage, the scene etc...). I can't exactly remember how he worded it but it was something like that.
Thanks stinger, got home from work an hour ago. And for whatever reason both my legs are chaffed. Looks like i just gotta paint my face and it’ll be fine.
I had this tape back in the day. Since Omaha Nebraska is my home town it was cool to hear Sting say he was born in Omaha Nebraska. Sting is not the only wrestler from Omaha, Nebraska. Helen Hild and her son Ted DiBiase ( Ted's father Iron Mike DiBiase wrestled for the University of Nebraska)., Baron Von Raschke, P.N. News, Mantaur, Jules Strongbow, Bearcat Wright ( WWE Hall Of Famer class of 2017 ), and The Dusek Family, Wylie G Woodruff from Tecumseh Nebraska, John Pesek from Ravenna Nebraska, Tony Stecher from Dodge Nebraska and the legendary Gorgeous George ( my Mom's all time favorite wrestler ) is from Butte Nebraska not to mention that the legendary Mad Dog Vachon lived in Omaha Nebraska from 1987 until his death in 2013 I was lucky enough to talk to Mad Dog on more than a few occasions her was a great and funny guy he is truly missed There are a few other rustlers who have a connection to Nebraska. But my comment is starting to get very long.
I used have this On VHS during Highschool days. Fun memories .Back when WWF and WCW were doing Career highlights of the respective Superstars of their own organizations. But then in the next Decade when DVDs were out WWE were now able to combine like for example Stone Cold Steve Austin career not just their WWE career but his WCW and ECW now that WWE had bought WCW and ECW video Library. Back in the 90s they could only do career highlights on a Superstar careers in the company their strictly in. Now these days they can combine with documentaries of their life and career.
Sting lost the World title to Vader in July at _Great American Bash'92...._ ...but they show the finals of the King Of Cable tournament where Sting won at _Starrcade'92!_ 8:17
There a part in there I never noticed until this very second, where we first see footage of Lex droping sting onto the barracade, Tony is doing his narrating and he says "While Sting would lose the title to Flair in 1992" Did he mean 1990 or 1992 because if he was saying "1990 two" that's alittle confusing. If he meant 1992, that's false lol Flair was in WWE in 1992 lol
Bro....I can remember the day these came out. I was at my towns Walmart. I'm 20 yo, killing time, and seeing this and the other tapes in the series. Sting was the first one I bought. I had been a fan forever but knew nothing of the inside world. These tapes blew me away.
When you look at the cuts, they seem different than the Bill and Hogan cuts. His cuts are done in mid conversation, so chances are they had too much and couldn't play it all. Hogan was in character, Bill was trying to relate as a person but in character, and Sting seem to take it as a real interview. Chances are he spoke more about the business than the show, and WCW didn't want to completely break Kay-fabe.
I have a question, does anybody remember which match and event it was when Sting was wrestling the total package and they ended up brawling in the ocean/ beach and sting body slammed the lex Luger in the water? I can’t find which event it was.
The cool thing about sting, he could totally go full corner sting again today and he would be huge, bright is back!! Bleached blond hair spiked up hair with some bright tights and bright face paint.
I can't tell you how many times I watched this tape as a kid. Thanks for bringing back some great memories! I much prefer these style of shoot interviews that are more in character with some truth sprinkled in.
I'm literally mouthing along to every word in this doc, bcuz I've seen it so many times! Guess you could say I'm still a Lil stinger! At 40 yrs old

Sting lost the World title to Vader in July at _Great American Bash'92...._
...but they show the finals of the King Of Cable tournament where Sting won at _Starrcade'92!_ 8:17
I loved this video as a kid. However, I always wanted to see a return of the Surfer Sting. That was the best version to me.
I also had this tape back in the late 90's during my high school years. Nice to see you review this.
Harlem heat and DDP aren’t mentioned when discussing wrestlers that didn’t leave. Or the legendary Hugh Morris.
I think the whole "Franchise" thing was because he was probably approached by WWF(E) a few times in that time and always stayed..
Damn I remember watching this when u was 13 years old. It was my uncles tape and i always loved watching it. Much better days
