Hi , I have same machine Honda and I suggest you every five years to spend 1 hour to clean them in video it easy to see that you take care . This Honda it is very strong and support everything.
Mate, thanks ever so much for doing this video, it really helped me to get the starter motor off. No joy with the pry bar method but it popped off the taper with a 6" puller.
Glad it was helpful mate! Even if you could find someone to work on it, how do you get it to them? Actually I need to take the flywheel off again as I think the magneto needs replacing. Hot starts are an issue. I have a magneto in the shed somewhere but where I put it, I have no idea….
It was about £120. I should have bought the whole thing, starter motor AND solenoid because shortly after the solenoid went and a genuine one from Honda is about £80. If you’re replacing it, I recommend you do both at the same time. There was a global shortage at the time (Covid) I think I went to CarGo in the end. I bought a cheap Chinese solenoid, doesn’t really work, or fit but loathe to spend that much on a new one…..
I’m having a similar issue with my 1211. Like the kill switch is on all the time. I noticed it started playing up when the forwards/backwards lever started to get over zealous about its position. Feels like there is a broken clip or cable so will investigate that next. It’s always been a pain to start though!
I’ve now got a faulty solenoid which needs replacing, If mine doesn’t start, I push the lever forward, and then stamp on the brake to re-centre. It’s usually because the forwards/ backwards lever isn’t in the perfect place. Good luck!
@@Himoutdoors Thanks for the reply. I have raised the body on it today and there is a cable that goes from a spring on the back of the Brake Pedal mechanism, through a rigid black pipe and (I think ) used to attach to the hydrostatic (forward and backwards) handle that needs to be in the neutral position to start. However, that has snapped and no idea how that assembles, hinges or looks when working. I will try and find some photos online of it so work out what i need to replace. It grieves me taking it to the local mower guys as it works briefly after having £500 thrown at it then fails again in a different place. Its bad economics. I might just buy a new one!
@@andycharger I know what you mean, you think you’ve solved one thing and a week later another thing breaks. I’m saving up for a robot mower, outsource the whole lot. Quite pricey though…. Have you tried a breakers, I had the number of a guy in Scotland, let me see if I can dig it out…

Good engineering Honda. That engine will outlast the rest of the machine. Bullet proof!
