    I remember when I went through the process in NYC my uncle recommended an immigration attorney because he had been at the same address and with same telephone number for the last 40 years. I guess, back when leases were long ... No brainer. Let’s use him I said.

    How many cases like mine have you handled? Right there is why most people throw there money on lawyers who are not qualified to hand a certain immigration case. I never thought about these questions before 🤔 thank you so much for your this video very eye opening.

    I would like to ask about effcient ways to narrow a list of lawyers down. There are hundreds of immigration lawyers within a 2 hour driving distance from me and I'm trying to figure out an efficient way to narrow it to 3 or 4 choices to do a consultation with. I've tried using the AILA search page for Lawyers but something seems off about it. I see supposedly reputable firms on sites like US News listing best immigration lawyers, however I can't find them on the AILA search engine.

    Alright Jim. Who would be the best in F1 reinstatementt case? Parents & siblings are US citizens. The attorney i had since 2013 messed up my case. He did not even submit my additional documents while applying for I 290 B appeal & it was denied. He said he sent my application at a wrong address & refilled my application.It ‘s been 2 months but i haven’t received a receipt notice yet. 3 weeks ago, he emailed the lockbox official but no response yet. He is charging me 350$/ hour but didn’t do anything.
    please suggest an expert on student visa( switched to B1/b2 for H1b which was denied 2 times) then school re- issued OPT because I did not get 12 months of OPT. at his is my case

    If a person applied for a tourist or study visa to America and one of his brothers exceeded the period allowed for his stay in America, does he affect the application in acceptance or rejection because of his brother residing in America ?

    Depends. Once you're in Immigration the judge is everything. So, how many cases have you handled before judge x or y? would be good.

  • @bosabarbosa1795
    @bosabarbosa1795 Рік тому

    Well, those are great advices, BUT, I DOUBT it would work on practice.
    For instance, you may ask a lawyer "how many cases have you handled? how many cases have you lost?". They can just MAKE UP ANY NUMBER to look good; They can LIE to you; you can NOT ask them to PROVE IT, can you? And, if we CAN, I do NOT THINK any lawyer would be happy being questioned!?
    In general, Lawyers do NOT LIKE being questioned, they give you a look, like "I am the lawyer, NOT YOU, I am the boss, you don't question ME"! And even if they DO answer, they'll just tell you what you want to hear!
    But, anyways, great video, great advices, as always. I have a Citizenship case ongoing; live in Massachusetts, and been having a very hard time finding a Lawyer WORTH IT, that will fight for my case. I know you are in Illinois but, do you practice in Massachusetts also? Thank YOU!

    I think it's all good advice but a little amused about the mention of wills and trusts (if a lawyer does that, and this and also immigration....) When I was hiring a lawyer for a semi-complex international trust, the advice always given was choose a lawyer who ONLY specializes in trusts, not one who does divorce, criminal law, injuries oh and also trusts (immigration wasn't mentioned)
    And I assume if I was looking for a divorce lawyer, I would be told to hire ones who only do that, and similarly if I were facing a serious criminal charge. So, the days of the generalist lawyer are gone, at least for big ticket cases.

    • @HackingImmigrationLawLLC

      Exactly. This is why we decided in 2012 to just do immigration. Enough to keep track of with one complex area of the law. Jim

    I'm not sure I can get the answers for all those questions without a payment for appointment. Lots immigration lawyers even don't work with cases because they are having the money from appointments. Before get the answers I'm paying for appointment around $300. And after I found out that this lawyer isn't able to help. I'm trying to talk with another attorney, paying again for consultation, and ...zero help again. That's why I'm thinking that most of layers even don't want to work. Why need to work if you are having a good money just for bla, bla, bla. 8 hours is working day. 30 minutes is an appointment cost $300. For 8 hours is $4800 per ONE DAY.. SO, I even don't know where to find an honest and knowing immigration attorney
