  • My Ooni Koda16 would not stay lit. This is is a safe fix and can also be used on the 12 inch Koda. This seems to be a common problem with both units.
Be sure to remove the stone before flipping the oven over!!!!!

    Awesome, thanks!
I got a Koda 16 just 4 weeks ago. I put in a manual turntable that I fabricated myself, and had to disconnect the thermocouple wire to get to bottom of the oven. After putting everything back, I discovered to my chagrin the flame won’t stay lit. I had to prop up a brick against the knob to keep the flame burning as I had already made my pizza pie and there was my hungry family waiting! 😁Thankfully the turntable with a 16.5” round stone worked perfectly. Only issue was the flame cutting out.
Today I tried the Reddit solution several times tightening the flame safety device (FSD) valve coupling nut, but no dice.
I have ordered the electrically actuated valve you showed. Thanks so much for that, I had no idea the Koda 16 knob was that sophisticated!
Hopefully it’s just the valve. I will test it out using the multimeter and lighting a flame under the thermocouple.
Thanks once again for the neat video and explanation of how the FSD works.

This worked perfectly. My grinder is buried in my garage due to having moved, so I used a copper brush attachment to my cordless drill. The whole operation took around 30 mins

My Koda 16 is almost three years old (Covid purchase). We don’t use it a ton, it was outside in the humidity of Texas until we moved to the cold/wet of the Pacific NW. I’ve always had the cover on it,but definitely exposed to the weather a bit

I appreciate this fix. I just got a brand new Karu 16, it seems to have the same problems documented here. I paid over $1300 for my oven and accessories including the gas burner. I expect Ooni needs to solve the problem so customers don't have to stand on their head to figure out how to fix it - perhaps send a gas burner that has been tested. I assume most customers don't have this problem - I'm guessing, maybe not? Not having fun making pizzas.

I’m glad it helped! I agree, but I think it’s more a result of the nature of the thermocouple design. The intense heat probably plays a part In how long the part lasts and the amount of buildup on the part. Hopefully you start having fun. Also make sure the oven is level. That plays a pretty big part in how it functions, too.

Hi Mark. Truly a great video made. You've saved me and my friend's koda 16.
Just a quick question. By any chance you have the specific dimensions of the gas valve as seen in the video?
Because recently I tried to fix another koda 16 that wouldn't stay lit.. Did the same procedure, cleaned the thermocouple. Tested with a multimeter but it still wouldn't stay lit.
It might be the valve, so I'm looking to get a replacement and hopefully it'll work.
    Kind regards,

These are the ones I got for my old Koda12 that I fixed and it works great. I’m fairly certain it’s the same one. It should have some markings on the valve that should let you figure it out. i dont think the nut at the control valve should have only been finger tight. That was likely a poor electrical/intermittent connection as things got hot

    • @markprestifilippo6981
      @markprestifilippo6981  3 роки тому

You are right. According to most manufacturers, it should be 1/4 turn past finger right. But given that I was already this deep, I might as well do some simple maintenance.

I think it’s just the nature of the beast. The same device is used for gas grills and heaters. They all stop working eventually. Luckily it’s relatively easy to clean up. I am sure the dust from the flour and other cooking residue makes it worse. Plus the extreme heat overall.
