  • In this video I share an issue I ran into with propane flow with the Ooni Koda 16. I was able to rectify the issue which I created. Keeping the Ooni Koda 16 level improves propane flow and efficiency based upon my recent experience.

Holy crap. A thermocouple replacement and endless troubleshooting, and you’ve solved my problem! I never thought to check the level of the table front-to-back. Thank you SO MUCH

@@TwelfthAvenueCuisine I also found that, after turning the oven sideways when transporting it, some of the burner has rusted on the inside and flaked off, covering the holes right below the thermocouple. A few blasts of compressed air solved that problem but leveling was also important!

This didn't solve my problem of uneven gas flow. What did solve my problem was to shut of the gas valve at the tank, disconnect the gas hose from the propane tank, wait 5 minutes then reconnect everything. I think sometimes the gas regulator work properly when turning on the gas valve.

Bill, this is a fantastic video topic. I have seen many videos of ovens with different looking flames with varying heights. I thought it was strange. This could be a reason for that.

Thanks! I have seen some comments on forums about issues with the oven staying lit. Just thought I would throw my experience out there. I clearly created the issue by not having the oven level. I think it is reasonable for Ooni to think most people would place their ovens on a level surface.

Good info! I just received my koda 16 yesterday, and unfortunately it is not working as intended. The flame is mostly yellow, the stone does not go above 800 to 850 degrees F, and the ingnition system is defective. Apparently this is a common problem with the koda 16. I am trying to find out how to increase the air flow to the 2 burners to get more of a blue flame, and just tried to tighten the FSD as per ooni, but as far as I can tell, the FSD was not loose, so will see if the ignition situation improves.

Kier's Cotons, thanks for posting a comment and watching our video. Are you in Europe? I notice that some users have more if a blue flame. We are in the US and our flame is yellow. I am so sad to hear that you won't be able to start using your Ooni right away. Ooni will honor their commitment to their customers and resolve any problems you are having. I hope you will check in again and share your experiences with us. Laurie.

@@TwelfthAvenueCuisine Nope, in USA. Waited 3 months for the koda 16 and now its not perfect :( I tightened the FSD, so now the first click on a huge gas flame bursts out then dies right away. The second time trying, it lights. The ignition knob also seems to get stuck (I can rotate it to on, but once there, I have to let the knob out to rotate any further-is that the same for you?) so I may just have to get another unit.

I open and close the propane bottle connected to my Koda 16. When I first open the propane tank once in a while it may take two lights. If the bottle is open and we used the Koda 16 earlier it always lights first try. Also when I first got my Koda 16 I would try to light it and not continue to press the knob in for a second or two. It would not light. So now I keep the knob pressed for a bit. I expect there will be variations in experiences when lighting.

@@TwelfthAvenueCuisine Thanks! Does your ignition knob rotate smoothly or does it get stuck, then you have to let it out and push in again to rotate?

Our flame control knob rotates smoothly between the high flame and low flame settings. Between high flame and lowering the flame towards the off position I need to press in the knob when turning. Adjusting the flame to what we call "below the Ooni low" is where when the flame is on high we press in the knob and rotate about 45 degrees toward the off position. I hope this helps!

@0:30 I would'a bet you were going to mention how a spider nested inside the burner tube 🕸 🕷 they do it all this time at my place.

    • @TwelfthAvenueCuisine

My first thought was being at ~ 5700 feet elevation was effecting propane flow. Then I thought maybe dust or other foreign material. How about that spiders! I keep my Koda 16 in the garage and it has no shortage of spiders! :-) I'll keep your experience in mind next time I encounter that issue.

The elevation of Prosser Creek Reservoir is 5,703 FT. That might have been a possible factor.

    • @TwelfthAvenueCuisine

That was my first thought actually so good call out! But once I leveled the oven by putting 2x4's under the front legs flame returned to normal.
