Great restoration. The Matchbox Rat Rod Mercury Cougar has so many childhood memories. I remember , when my friend Carl brought one into school I must have been seven or eight at the time, it was like no Matchbox car I'd seen before with the blown engine and the lime green paint job...I wasn't aware f Hot Wheels at that time... I still have one in my collection today.

I had the real one of those, a '67 for almost 20 years. 289 cid V8, auto with full console, tilt wheel, and air conditioning. Fully restored in Jamaican Yellow. Still miss it... Still have my original owner Matchbox just like the one you did that fantastic restoration on, though mine is a little beat up...

That I a nice Mercury Cougar in the drag racer style. I collected a stiff axle 1-75 series in 1973. By 1981 the window glass and doors were missing and I brush painted it grey with gloss blue hood, deck lid and roof top. Made it depict a restoration look

Some impressive sparks from the welder Paul; that doesn't usually happen.😂
I prefer the plain Cougar, especially with regular wheels but you made a great job of the dragster. Great paint match on a tricky colour too.👍👌😁
Would it be worth painting the stub of the tow-hook in silver? It might look better.
