    For people in the states, Nurture soap is a great option for supplies! I love that they add a free gift with every order and a funny note 😂 Last order I made, they added free yellow mica and a note that said 'When Chuck Norris sneeze, the Corona virus buys toilet paper'.
    They also have a reward system if you write reviews on products you purchased 👍

    Just wanted to add that thrift stores can be a treasure trove for finding some of these items very cheaply. Also when I started making lager batches, I used the Rubbermaid plastic dishpans instead of buckets as they weren't as deep and so you didn't have soap way up high on your stick blender. Plus they are square so it was easier to pour the soap out into the mold. As for those silicone molds, they are great. If you can't get your soap out, pop it into the freezer for a little while and it will pop right out. Loosen all four sides first then flip it over and give the bottom a push with your thumbs and it loosens right up and pops out. Also you can start by making a "supermarket soap." Use whatever oils you can find at the supermarket. They generally will have olive oil, coconut oil, lard, shortening and so forth and you might be able to find castor oil at the drug store. These places won't have the best prices mind you, but when you are just starting you don't need 50 lbs of coconut oil. LOL!!

      Plastic containers from the Dollar store are the best for the price to be honest but stainless steel is also good!
      As far as making the lye ahead, 14 days is the most I keep mine but anything after 2-3 days, you should use a strainer because you might have some solid bits in your lye. I make mine 24h ahead usually because I like to soap at room temp 😊

    Your resource links are immensely helpful but they have me wondering if you have separate equipment, like measuring cups, for soapmaking and another set for making bath bombs? Or do you use a single set for both? I only ask because you have some equipment listed twice. And, do you use the same KitchenAid mixer for both home and business or is your mixer devoted only to the business? I'm fairly certain I know the answers but don't want to assume. And I hope my question about the mixer isn't too personal.

  • @codybrookehanson2346
    @codybrookehanson2346 3 роки тому

    I would add that vinyl gloves are not a good option - I know they're cheap, especially right now, but every single time I've used them, the thumb rips out on me and my finger nail turns brown and gets super soft/ brittle and the underside burned for days. Either nitrile or latex reusable gloves (for dishwashing and cleaning). If I need lye now, I can get it 1 lb of it at Walmart for a $5, $7 at my local Kroger (I'm in Oregon). You won't find it with household cleaners, it's with plumbing/paint/and hardware. My first soaps were made with coconut oil, olive oil, canola and lard. I haven't changed much other than adding palm, Shea castor (pharmacy department at Walmart) and avocado - depending which soap of mine I'm making. But those are great starting points. I would say other than everything she listed here, do your research. It doesn't have to be months or years worth of it as some like to suggest - as soapers with lots of experience will tell you, they're still learning/experimenting and researching every day. That's why it's so rewarding, it feels like a skill that just keeps on giving with versatility. But so spend some time getting to know your ingredients, the process and what can happen if something is unexpected and where to go for troubleshooting.
    Oh, and don't buy up all the expensive tools and ingredients until you know you like doing it 😉
