The great thing about this movie is it's timeless quality. Even though it's set in '76 Texas, these characters can be found at every high school, in every town, in any era. It's completely relatable to ANYONE over the age of 15.

As someone who was in jr high in 1976, I can vouch for this film being RIGHT on the mark. What's in the movie is exactly the way it was. (Same can be said of Saturday Night Fever, made in 1978. Except in real discos, there was a lot more cocaine.)

In 1976 I was in 3rd grade. To me, this was what the "big" kids looked like. I was babysat by girls who dressed like this and fell in love with them even before I knew what the word meant. I should also note that they invited their boyfriends over who "rolled their own cigarettes" LOL!

I remember me and my friends at the theatre watching this, we were all 18 years old. I have watched this flick about every 10 years since then. And it really gets better at every viewing. The first viewing I enjoyed the film but did not understand it, because I did not understand then that I was a character in the film at the time.

I was in this movie and I was in my twenties in the 70's and the 70's sucked. The character played by Marisa Ribisi points this out. Thus the title "DAZED ANDCONFUSED". It's a good movie that's gets "re-discovered" by a new set of kids every year. According to Rick himself, this movie couldn't get made today.
And by the way, the only good thing about the 70's were the cars made BEFORE 1976. By then the muscle cars were no longer made.

I watched it last night. In some ways it has a lot of issues gender roles. Theres the way men and women are initiated into a cultures but then accepted if they go through it. Then there’s the element of getting wasted and high and living in a town that’s pretty dull. Kids just driving around. Every type of student is represented and you can sort of tell each of their future. You definitely relate and can sense which crowd you’d be hanging out with. The movie also has this under current of bittersweet energy about the passing of time. As MM character says, “I get older, they stay the same age.”

*I must be one of the very few people that absolutely hates this film.*
HOWEVER, I do respect it for its accuracy and tone of what a real party feels like, but I suppose for those who do like it, that's kind of the point, it's NOT about story per se, it's about the attitudes and sense of meaningless drift that is adolescent confusion on "what's next for me" anxiety, a chaos of rapidly changing connections that transition a moment frozen in our minds as a time stuck between childhood and adulthood.
