I have a TW on order. After much research (LOL) I have determined that a 15/49 would be perfect for me. Mostly country roads at 55mph and under. Great video.
I have a TW and it has only the 15 tooth gear change. I can get it to 70+mph but I'm not a big dude. That said, I would never want to ride it on an interstate in rush hour, but I appreciated watching you do it! Biggest concern for me is that you don't have anything left in case an evasive maneuver is required.
Cool video. I've seen someone drop just the rear from 50 teeth to 47. And that was a reported improvement. That's just about the same as 15/49 I guess. It comes stock with a tame top end, but like he said in the video, the 1st gear gets mostly wasted unless you're hauling weight in rough terrain. Adjusting the teeth for American interstates is almost a requirement for American owners who truly want to go anywhere.
Dude your killing me... I ride a 19 te300i and a 701 primarily here in the nj pine barrens but I’ll never get rid of my trusty TDub 200! Lol... I’ve had so much fun on that thing, had to put a works shock and cartridge inserts in it (big guy like you).. but it will always have a home.
@@EverySingleSunday Haha, one thing for sure.... I'm sure you can relate... I have a couple built HD's, a Busa, a Super Tenere and KTM 300XCW.... That little Van Van 200 has me pull my usual pace waaaaaayyyy back to a crawl and cruising in its elements is always a great time! 👍👍
Do you remember the jetting specs you’re running off hand? I’m from orange and ride the same basic areas (so.cal, Santiago peak, barstow) These things look like a hoot. Every vid I’ve watched on these has put a smile on my face. I think my mind is set to sell my xr’s and pick a new one of these.
Mine would only go 64 stock. Hahaha. Rattle rattle rattle. I was 14 years old when my step dad taught me to ride it. Best go anywhere do anything bike ever. Absolutely solid reliable machine. I weighed about 150 pounds at the time. Now I’m 230. Pretty solid. Prolly should get a 300 or more. Haha
Just picked mine up today. 2008, 830 miles, larger pegs, front and rear rack. No carb, air or exhaust mods. $2500. Super excited. Just had my first ride and am in research mode for goodies. I haven't rang it out yet. I'm 6'2" 220 pounds. How much do you weigh? Suggestions on first mods?
Not to overstep my bounds on the mods, but one major upgrade is to put the Shinko SR241 4.00x18 on the front if it wasn't changed by the P.O. You will feel a whole lot safer on it.
I've cruised my TW at 60 at only about 3/4 throttle with stock gearing, but have the advantage that I only weigh 95 pounds. lol. I dont put it on pavement much since I prefer dirt riding but when you need to you need to.
I don't use my TW offroad much anymore. I have bike bikes for that and it's hard to grab the TW most days But ... It's an awesome bike for riding around town and I absolutely love it. Was fun to see what she'd do on the freeway
Coo vid, my Dad just picked up a brande new TDubs! Cool little bikes! Definitely needs sprockets though, only good for about 50mph unless you want to wring its neck..
Nice. I know the area well I join family out of Temecula and head over Ortega regularly. I'm looking to buy my teen a TW200 to learn on and maybe go play myself. Fun to see how it moves on local streets. See you around town.
Biggest change is the gearing and getting the carburetor running correctly. I also have a FMF muffler and a Uni air filter, but those didn't do a whole lot.
@@grooviefanIf you want more top end speed switch to fewer teeth on the rear sprocket or more teeth on the front sprocket or some combination of the two. For more low end torque (and lower top speed), do the opposite.
Father in law gave me an Aprilia 250 Sport City scooter.. she's good for 71-72mph. I found, like you did, nobody goes that slow here. I lasted one exit LOL
i am curious about your trail tech. you run it on the ktm300 2t and t dub. what model is it and what type bar mount. also.. how does it hook up to bikes for tach and speedo?
It's a TrailTech Voyager Pro. Absolutely love the unit and highly recommend it It comes with a wheel speed sensor but I just use the GPS for speed. For tach, there's a wire that wraps around the spark plug wire. There is also a temp sensor if you have a radiator, voltage from the battery, and buddy tracking if your friends have the same GPS

Congrats on the new bike! I’ve tackled a few freeway miles here and there on the Tdub...those semis sketch me out! Gone with the wind!

I don’t remember off hand. The guys at Gustin in Costa Mesa did the jetting and got it perfect off their specs
Less power w Tdubs. Get used to slow & high vibration. Cant get in a hurry.

Gavin D. New sprocket that more gears on it giving it a higher top speed

But that scooter was fun around town !
It's a blast here in HB.. not on the 5/405 ha ha!
Your absolute redline (9000rpm) would be at 75mph with that gearing
I've seen 76..... And it felt like it was going to explode
I usually run strictly offroad.... But was curious how she'd do
Numb hands if you push it.
It won't blow up I've held mine wide open for many miles using 20w50 motor oil as long as you don't modify the engine in any way

My 2000 Kawasaki Eliminator 125 did 74mph plus on flat roads, and I weighed 199lbs. It took time lol.
Just gotta keep it pinned

I think the problem is the volume: it's much louder than your voice.
Would I be ok on a 17 mile commute daily you think, mostly freeway
I would try and find a side road, I would not be comfortable riding this bike on the freeway every day
@@EverySingleSunday mechanically or safety reason why
Too lightweight. Get blown around & passed by everyone. High speed vibration is bad. Hands go numb. Stick to side roads & dirt.

I had a different front tire on the bike, can't remember what model it was.
fuel mileage was better with the gearing change because the RPM was lower
