- After 29 months away from the international scene two-time Olympic champion Shi Zhiyong returned to the platform at the IWF Grand Prix II. Watch as he builds up in the backroom in the snatch before walking out and hitting the gold medal lift of 160kg.

Man, it makes you appreciate being a recreational lifter. If I feel a tweak or even just sleep poorly, I can skip training and go for a hike or whatever. These guys have to fight through, injury or no.
the old Bulgarian champions were told "you always expect to lose soldiers in a war", so they trained injured all the time. their records have not been beaten until today. In fact weight classes were changed to make weightlifting more "exciting" for spectators - because people realized their records wouldn't be surpassed soon.
The weight classes were changed because all the records were made by guys who were juiced.
@@johndoherty-hh2ck everyone is still juiced

He looked and walked like he was in so much pain. I admire his tenacity though. Thank you WH for the back room footage. It's one of the things that I've been missing during this competition. Well that and being able to see the actual lifters on the platform. But not being able to see them because there's just the image of the lineup of all of the lifters. Maybe it'll get better as the competition goes on. Well that's what I'm hoping at this point.
He was out because he had to bulk up with some roids and some new Chinese drugs.
@@roncaruso931 braindead comment
@@roncaruso931Surely you're trolling right? You see the same video I can see right? Dude is very clearly in some real pain all throughout this which pretty much tracks with being out for over a year from injury. If he was out taking drugs I don't think he'd come back struggling to do 18kg under his PB. Get real man lmao
@@Warriormanners Dude. LOL. Roids help pain. Not trolling. Educating.
His spirit of competition and willpower are unparalleled, but's that's unsettling to see him seemingly being in so much pain all the time
why does he still look in so much pain after every lift?:´(
He probably is. Elite performance has its price.
Could be the roids.
in 2014 he was severely injured with back issues. probably some sign of the injury still remains
During his snatches you can see him whincing from pain after he finishes and he withdrew from C&J after his first lift this competition
Still recovering from hamstring injury.
As an amateur at home lifter at the deceased old age of 42, I know how ultimately debilitating a tiny lower back injury can be. The slight twinge will drop you to your ass and haunt you for years. The fact that he is even attempting this stuff in such obvious pain makes him basically thor.
Its crazy how he blows throw 160 but has to walk off like each lift is costing him his life by literally aging him up 40 years.

Shi lost his first Undefeated Crown for the first time ,Even he only Clean&Jerk Opener 180kg looks Heavy .Snatch 163kg also didn't looks particularly Close too
I'd say he's on that lasha type level where people can't come close when he's at his prime but if he's injured etc the top competitors have a chance
@@carpetgymolyliftinghard to say he's on a lasha level when he hasn't even outlifted liao hui whos spot he took when he came to prominence. Comparing lasha to anyone else means going back decades.
@GenericUssername lasha isn't comparable to anyone in history lol I said type not quite to the level of him but he's on that type of level

@adrianaavila3019 she's no.1 or 2 of all time of the women's side 100% if only she competed with Kasharina
why no one talking about ritvars suharevs, kid also had surgery and injuries and he took gold
He was freaking great today. 6 for 6, his highest total since the Olympics when he was an 81 and he moved up to the fourth slot in the Paris rankings. Even though he bombed at worlds, he won a tough competition for European title. Ritvars should be pleased with his overall performances this year.
His technique is artful. Beautiful to watch.
He had a great performance and not taking anything away from Suharevs, but we all know Shi was not top condition. You and I both know if Shi was in shape, he would have CNJ 190+ and probably snatched 163+. His win will always be overshadowed by Shi being injured.
+10 strength for the scream
He need more roids.

Shi Zhiyong is back (pun intended). He needs to move up one slot per month if he wants to be one of China's pick for the Olympics. Can he do it? Stay tune while Weightlifting House covers it.
Don't know if they're going to send him with his injury and Rahmat putting up gold winning numbers. Li Fabin is possibly injured so they'll probably send Chen Lijun out of the two. Liu Huanhua is pretty much guaranteed a slot with his recent performances, plus it'll be his first Olympics. Last slot is between Shi and Li Dayin, and Li Dayin seems much healthier.
Chen is a natural 67 now. He came down for 61s last spring for Asian championships and was down a great deal as you could imagine. He would not be as dominant in the 61s if he came down again.
He is a warrior
It was really almost shocking to see him looking so uncomfortable in the back room on even mid level weights and then to come out and crush 155 and 160. Shi is such an amazing and charismatic athlete.
the cinematography is rich
Respect👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼
"CAO",yes, that's the magic spell
My man does not look alright
His scream sounded a bit different in the warm up. I wonder if it's because of the pain.
The king is back

My man will eat them alive in Paris… First comp in 29 months wow!! Wo Cao
He curses like a sailor, i'm here for it
Idk, man. The even more uneven start and bottom position, the wincing and back holding after every lift, the hobbling off the platform... Not good signs.
Yeah it’s either his last oly soon or he needs to take an extended period to recover. Really depends how bad he hurt his back
I think his last Olympics. He’ll be 31 next summer. If he gets gold he’ll be only the sixth guy to win Olympics three times with Lasha right behind him probably.
WoCao intensitive with variations of CAOs, love it.
Yea. He wasnt gone.
I like how China's pro team all have their screams and grunts all sync'd together.
I can't tell if those warm up lifts are misses or if hes catching in the hole and dropping
I think the standing motion causes him the most pain so he is avoiding it in warm ups.
He's about 20kg off his hey days (166S+194CJ=360 total). He just needs half of those kgs back, and his gold is basically secured.
I don't think anyone else these days is coming close to hitting that total consistently in this weight category (i.e., 6 competitions with 360 or above total).
But he also just hit the 30 mark. Not exactly a spring chicken anymore as a competitive weightlifter. Most don't stick around until their mid-late 30s.
Rahmat did 359
Weraphoon is close, idk what happened on comp day now
Fair enough, looking at Rahmat's comp stats now, he did set two 350+ totals in the 73kg class:
2022 (Dec 9) World Championships in Bogota - 352 (152S + 200CJ)
2022 (Oct 3) Asian Games in Hanzhou - 359 (158S + 201CJ)
While competing in the 81kg:
2021 Islamic Solidarity Games in Konya - 355
2023 (Sep) World Championships in Riyadh - 354
2023 (June) IWF Grand Prix in Havana - 358
2023 (May) SEA Games in Phnom Penh - 359
Since 81kg is not an option for the 2024 Olympics, he's definitely competing in the 73kg class. It certainly remains to be seen how well his performance from the more recent and heavier 81kg sessions will carry over to the lighter 73kg session in 8 months time (Aug 8).
As for Weeraphon, this was what I was able to dig up (since he's still a junior as of Sep 2023):
Competing in the 73kg:
2022 (Oct 3) Asian Games in Hanzhou - 351 (156S + 195CJ) [2nd place to Rahmat]
2023 (Sep 9) World Weightlifting Championships in Riyadh - 349 (154S + 195CJ) [1st place]
2023 (Dec 7) IWF Grand PRIX II in Qatar - 334 (145S + 189CJ) [3rd place to Shi's 2nd place]
I think these are his most recent (and relevant) competitions. Looking at his current track record though I'd argue he's less of a contender than Rahmat unless he can pull out his 2022 total again at Paris.
When he yelling“Wocao”,u know what? The game is over!
6:23 what’s wrong with shi?
Wrist?
Hips?
Back?
Everything i guess
In particular his lower back was hurting big time looked like. I hadn’t realized it watching the competition. Now I understand why only one jerk and totaled just enough to get on Paris rankings list.
4:11 dude in the back.. me too man... me too
Both of you should take more roids.
bro is back but with lot of pain, whats going on?
Bro needs to take more roids bro. You hear me bro. Im just a bro. Are you a bro. How stupid...Bro. LOL!!
he's been injured for a while. he's just forced to lift here as he doesn't have a competitive total put up yet for this Olympic qualification period and this is the second to last event to put one up
HE BACK
About 90% of the way back. What specifically have been his injuries. Anybody know?
He’s got a bad back
Its Hes back. He needs more roids.
I'm not a doctor but...I don't think he should be lifting
To be more exact, NOONE should be lifting :)
@@Perforu Lifting prevents osetoperosis
@@durrantmiller8810 yeah, lifting tiny weighs in regular fashion sure does - lifting ridiculous weighs at the absolute maximum of human capability while pushing that border as far as possible by any means necessary destroys your joints, ligaments and most importantly compresses intervertebral disc which causes herniation which leads to nerve compression - which either makes your life a torture or renders you invalid / disabled. Not to mention the quality of life factor as it leaves you in constant pain and neurological symptoms.
This sport, while thrilling to watch, should be banned unfortunately, because it questions the whole idea of sport - which is to keep your body healthy and young. I don't think there is another discipline these days which requires the athlete to sacrifice their body as much as weightlifting.
Try American football. You can add brain damage from all the concussions you receive to all the other damage you cite.
Молодец!!!

He will go to and win the Olympics once again. Shi performs when he has to. Asians should give us a better idea of what he can do as this was obvously just to get a decent total type of meet.
Why wasn't his trainers massaging his lower back between reps? Weird
They will massage him with roid oil.

More dissapointing that thai lifter... 195c&j on world training hall, 145 sn pull + 3 snatches. For a really underperformance
Is he actually in that much pain? 🌚

oh please not that Squat University reposting weightlifting videos for normies, you can't expect any of his audience to even squat properly, let alone practice any proper weightlifting, which is the snatch, clean and jerk.
