- Find out what to do when drawing white whiskers on black fur proves difficult and you've got no tooth left on your Pastelmat to work with.
This trick saved the commissioned piece I've been working on recently, and is so worth knowing!

Thank you for showing how the touch-up texture goes onto the picture. I've not seen it used directly, on its own, before.
And for sharing about the smell; definitely a no for me!
I have been wondering how these two work - before I jump in and spend on either of them. Thank you!
When I use the fixative I don’t spray downwards. I put the picture against the wall and really shake that can. And the retouch up comes with a zinc white powder which is mixed with what looks like nail polish, just a dab. It is still archival and I use a tiny 00 watercolor brush for the whiskers. Either way it will be just fine. But then in the future you have more control with the fixative spraying across. I really enjoy and appreciate that you share your art experiences. There are so many ways to accomplish projects that it is amazing. Also an exacto knife can make whiskers. I tilt mine so the paper doesn’t get sliced. Thank you and your art is beautiful!
I couldn't believe how it came together, it's amazing Bonny
Thank you so much for share another way to get wiskers in a black fur. I had heard of Brush and Pencils products. The touch of texture and the titanium white are mixed together, and a white paint mixture is formed. It looks incredible! but, I had never seen how it was used, only with the touch of texture and the spray. It's a good alternative, looks very natural! Thank you!❤️
I’m so glad for this video. I’ve been working on a tiger as my first colour pencil drawing and I was worried about the white whiskers. Brilliant thanks Bonny
It’s all about spraying the fixative correctly. You want a nice fine mist with sweeping motions back and forth. Then you will avoid the drops. You probably already know that but wanted to do it on video so to not move the picture. I absolutely love Brush & Pencil products! They I’ll save your art!
Thank you for the demo!
Yes - although in practice it’s never as simple as that 🤣🤣
Great tip! Thank you.
Love this!
Thanks for that !
It looks so real 😻
Thank you for the tip. That was really helpful 😊❤️
Do you offer any workshops or retreats where I can learn from you in person?
@Bonny snowdon fine art very helpful to know, but can I ask why you don't use a slice tool or xacto to put in the whiskers? Would using the slice method still work if you had no tooth?
This is pastelmat so using the slice tool will leave a pretty wobbly gritty line - it just isn’t clean sadly so will look like a cut mark rather than a whisker. I did actually try it first and it just didn’t work. On paper that’s smooth I’d recommended indenting but being really careful because that can also look awful.
@@BonnySnowdonAcademy ah I see thank you, will use your recommended method then, I've only just got some pastel mat to try. X
I don't know how to do a good sketch to begin with 😫 Do you have any tutorials about that? I was checking out your channel and always starts with the sketch already made ..... ? Thanks ! :) love your work !!
I have quite a few tutorials showing how to create the line art 🥰
Hi Bonny, I really love your drawings and have a question. For the white whiskers do you use water as Caran d'Ache Museum pencils are water soluble ones ?
Thank you 🥰 the museum aquarelle are soluble but I tend to use them dry 🥰
@@BonnySnowdonAcademy Thank you Bonny for your answer and have a good day 🌞
Bonny please could you tell me the brand of your white coloured pencl on the cat's whiskers?
I think it’s museum aquarelle 🥰
Can I please ask how many times you sprayed with the fixative? Just the one time? Thank you Bonny! Great tips!
Just once 🥰
Bonny, could I use a Sakura Gelly Roll Gel Pen White Color instead, for the whiskers? I don't know if it would work with pastelmat.
You can use what you want. I don’t use them as I don’t find them lightfast. Even the posca ones turn yellow
@@BonnySnowdonAcademy Wow, I didn't know! Thank you for replying and sharing your knowledge! 🙏
Why wouldn’t you normally use fixatives? Are they damaging to the work?
I have ruined a piece before as it really darkened and left splotches so I just don’t use it 🥰
Hi medam the drawing paper you are using is wat mem
It’s on clairefontaine pastelmat 🥰
❤️😍❤️
Umm.....that fixadent....umm..... Will warp your paper within six months..umm...... You shouldn't...umm ...encourage.....ummm...people to use that crap.....umm.... Unless they're going to throw away the ...umm....artwork soon...... It does look good..umm for less than a year......umm don't take shortcuts people do your artwork right if you make mistakes just learn by it and do it right the next time
