FORGOTTEN ASTRONAUT (Written by Matt Sharp)
We’re high above the tranquil sea
I take a big deep breath and set the Eagle free
Oh, I know, what I know and I know it’s all up to me
But, I feel what I feel and I feel the history
Over two hundred thousand miles home
If the Eagle fails, I go back alone
Oh, I know, what I know and I know it’s all up to me
But, I feel what I feel and yeah, I feel the history
They got names like superheroes, bigger than The Beatles or I could ever be
They got all the great one-liners, written in the schoolbooks for all eternity
They’re bouncing up and down in the tranquil sea
Three hundred million girls watch on TV
Oh, I know, what I know and I know it’s just jealousy
But, I feel what I feel and I feel it endlessly
They got names like superheroes, bigger than The Beatles or I could ever be
They got all the great one-liners, written in the schoolbooks for all eternity
We are waiting for connection, trans-Earth injection, three thousand degrees, yes
Splashdown, North Pacific Ocean; soon we will be home where Hornet waits for three, yeah
Oh, I know what I know, as my parachutes released
Like peppermint candy we float in a blue-sky dream
Like “Starlite Mints” we move through the cotton sky
And the arms of the ocean are stretched out; open wide
Yeah, they got all the great one-liners, written in the schoolbooks for everyone to read
Yeah, they got names like superheroes, bigger than The Beatles on black and white TV
And now I’ve all but been forgotten, Forgotten Astronaut has been lost to history, yeah
THE END
* This song was inspired by the writing of Michael Collins. We encourage you to read his books "Flying To The Moon" & "Carrying The Fire."

How is this not a massive, massive hit?
I'm just glad to see my hero Matt Sharp is back!
RIP Michael Collins
I've been an Apollo fanatic just as long as I've been a Rentals fanatic, so hearing these worlds collide is nothing short of wonderful to me. Beautiful song.
Didn't they also make this as a secondary tribute to those killed in the challenger explosion?
Nope that's great big blue
Fantastic song for a great man. RIP Michael Collins
RIP dear 'Forgotten Astronaut' Michael Collins!... But at least we have this beautiful song, by the Rentals, as a living tribute to Mike Collins!
Rip Forgotten Astronaut
"Carrying the Fire: An Astronaut's Journeys" is also a good read. He's an interesting dude for sure. Great song too, BTW! 🤘
Neil Armstrong lived in my hometown with me and Woody Harrelson all at the same time in the late 70's & early 80's.
The world needs you guys - never stop!! We love you! 🌝

Humanity can be so cruel. At nearly fifty years old, I never knew about this astronaut until today. He's been relegated to the background.
You mean you never heard Jethro Tull's "For Michael Collins, Jeffrey, And Me"? Get with the program, man!!
@@GuitaristInProgress I must admit it, I never did hear that song either
Love your music. Rocket on🚀👨🚀👩🚀
Yuri's Night brought me here
This is so worth the cease and desist letter from the FCC I’m about to get cranking this over pirate radio...hypothetically of course.
This is my favorite song on this album. Matt sharp totally kicked rivers ass with this
This is a space rock album without being space rock, try that one on! Getting a little uncle Albert admiral Halsey feel from the hook too. love it. of course name droppin them amongst it too!
The song is so damn good. I had to stop at the middle and started over again. First time I listened to it I was like whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa wait a second.
Time I finally got through that I had tears in my eyes. So, yeah, I’m starting it over again.
What a beut!
Did you know Neil A is alien spelled backwards:)
Finally getting the respect I deserve
